Witnessed the man he was in love with made Tranquil, and was forced to kill him.
Despite suffering all this, Anders:
Took it upon himself to care for the welfare of the poor and under-privileged of Darktown.
Advocated for freedom for mages peacefully for seven years by writing and disseminating a manifesto, and running an underground network to smuggle mages out of the Gallows to escape abuse.
Struck out against a system of abuse and oppression after centuries of unchallenged status quo.
Destroyed a symbol of oppression and bigotry (the building where the man he loved was unjustly murdered).
So many people, including his own writers at BioWare, trying to make Anders out to be this irredeemable villain and constantly punishing him with the narrative.
Excuse me but Anders is PRIME protagonist/hero material, and making his story out as a villain arc just feels like a poor attempt at creating a morally grey narrative that isn't morally grey at all.
