Pieces of a dream

Hearing the pretty picture Rin had painted in her head, so similar the one Sousuke cherished for years, had Sou tearing up a little. She sniffed, keeping those traitorous tears at bay.

“Hey, there’s no need to apologise. If there’s anyone who should feel like a shitty friend it’s me…” Sousuke took Rin’s hands between her own, and then offered her own shoulder for her best friend to cry on. Once she got Rin to do that, she hugged her as close and as tight as she could. “I kept you in the dark for so long, just because I didn’t want to see you cry. You don’t need to worry about me. As I said, my dreams already came true. Now I’ll just have to find another one.”

More than anything, now, she wanted to enjoy the last few months she would get to spend with Rin at their fullest. She had no right to expect that, she didn’t deserve it in the slightest, but that didn’t stop her from wishing it with all her heart.

Sousuke kept silent and stroked Rin’s back until she calmed down, then kissed her forehead and stepped back.

“Now let’s go clean this blotchy face, okay?” She said, in such a motherly tone that it had her feeling a pang in her chest as she thought about her little one. “And then let’s go out and enjoy our day together. That’s what you can do for me, Rin, as a friend. Can you do that for me?”

She just couldn’t believe it. That dream they shared from when they were little girls, was now just an illusion. Rin never thought for a moment that she would be reaching for that dream alone. Without Sousuke by her side and sharing the glory of being the best in the world. The redhead took the offer of laying her head against the taller girl’s shoulder, crying not only for herself….but for her best friend as well. She didn’t know what she should do to make it better…to make her friend stop hurting. Despite those words, Rin still felt like she was the worst friend ever.

“I’m not crying.” came a mumble from where she had her face hidden on Sousuke’s neck, arms tighten around the taller girl and took a deep breath to calm herself down. Once she was ready, she leaned back and wiped her face before looking up at Sousuke. Why her? Why did it had to be her hurting so much and alone? Sousuke deserved the world with how amazing she was, she was talented, beautiful…she had what it took to get the gold more than herself. So why…

Her train of thoughts stopped going to the darker side as she felt a pair of soft lips on her forehead, an inhale of a scent of vanilla and red, teary eyes looked up at her best friend. Rin could feel her face warming up as she felt her heart skip a beat, butterflies in her stomach at the sweet gesture. Oh goodness, her feelings for her best friend were surfacing once more after so many years putting it in the back of her mind, never to be thought of again.

She then turned away with pouty lips, “My face is not that blotcy, baka.” whined the shorter swimmer but she was about to do what she was asked. “Alright…but know this.” a red gaze, serious and bright now turned back to the raven, “I plan on spoiling you, you know that. And you won’t stop me.”

“Spoiling, huh? Well, I think we can both do that at the nearest hot springs, can’t we?” Sou didn’t really care that it wasn’t such a cool place for a date, being mostly attended by old people dealing with rheumatic pains. She could hardly see what could be better than the opportunity to bathe naked together with Rin. “Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to spend a whole day there. We can go to the aquarium, after. And then for a swim at the beach. End our day coming back here to the dorms and watch a movie together. Sounds like a plan?”

Unable to see anything around her due the blindfold, and still not allowed to tal Sousuke tried to reach out and feel if her girlfriend was still near her. Rin’s eyes narrowed as Sousuke spoke so frankly, feeling a hot flash of what was either anger or a bit of embarrassment.  He hadn’t quite been expecting his best friend to react in such a way, and Rin nudged Sousuke with his elbow, a bit harder than he meant to.

“I didn’t say every omega wanted to fuck me!  I just said the cashier at the store was flirting with me.” Rin retorted, holding up the receipt from the store.  “See?  She even wrote her phone number.“  He pointed out the little numbers and the girl’s name written in cute hand-writing, before crumpling up the receipt, and throwing it into the trash.  She had been attractive, but Rin simply wasn’t interested.  Being flirted with was nothing new to Rin… he was perfectly aware that he looked good, and his Alpha status often meant that he felt the gazes of strangers following him.  Sometimes it was brief, other times it lingered far too long for Rin’s liking, causing him to turn around and growl softly at whoever was staring at him for too long.

“What’s your problem, anyway?”  Rin asked, and he shamelessly leaned into Sousuke’s personal space, going so far as he bring his nose barely an inch away from Sousuke’s throat, right above the scent glands, and sniffed.  At first glance, not many people would have ever suspected that somebody as tall and imposing as Sousuke had presented as an Omega.  And yet he was, and it was something Rin had learned a long time ago, thanks to his keen sense of smell.

“Are you going into heat soon or something?  I thought you were only due next month.”  Rin muttered.
