You’ve Got Mail (1998) - unwrapping the set design

The set design is beautiful. The English country cottage almost feels too stuffy, but her lightheartedness makes it feel less “mother may I” homemaker. She’s more like the quirky friend that likes old people things. And I totally want to have her come design all the little books and corners of my home.
Im totally adding a stout little lamp in my kitchen and hanging up some bamboo shades.

Birdie's house has too many great layers to unwrap. Let's begin with that collection of plates on her wall. I love all the texture. The round shapes and glossy colors contrast nicely with the wild plants and deep green. The eyes are drawn and anchored to the middle where she hangs the anchoring pieces of art.

Al dente pasta tossed with sautéed baby spinach, tuna canned in oil, shaved Pecorino Romano, topped with an over easy fried egg. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and fresh group pepper to taste

Take away: tuna canned in oil is way more flavorful and soft than tuna canned in water.

Takeaway: it's hard to mess up a choice cut of meat, even if you are limited to a cast iron skillet.

Ingredients collected at St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Orleans, Louisiana

13 bean and ground beef chili. Seasoned with New Mexican adovada spice.

Takeaway: adovada is a great substitute for a chili powder.

Fish Meunière featuring Line caught speckled trout gifted from a friend of the family. Lightly dusted with flour and sautéed in butter. Meunière sauce - butter, lemon juice, parsley.

Takeaway - dust each fillet with flour and save yourself the trouble of cleaning a plate of flour that you barely used for dredging.

Double Decker Nachos - chips to cover bottom, shredded chicken breast, chopped tomato, garbanzo beans, sliced green onions, sliced jalapeño, diced red onions, sharp cheddar, Gouda, REPEAT…

Take away: creating two layers means there's a little bit of everything in every bite, down to the very last bite at the bottom of the tray
