You’ve Got Mail (1998) - unwrapping the set design
The set design is beautiful. The English country cottage almost feels too stuffy, but her lightheartedness makes it feel less “mother may I” homemaker. She’s more like the quirky friend that likes old people things. And I totally want to have her come design all the little books and corners of my home. Im totally adding a stout little lamp in my kitchen and hanging up some bamboo shades.
Birdie's house has too many great layers to unwrap. Let's begin with that collection of plates on her wall. I love all the texture. The round shapes and glossy colors contrast nicely with the wild plants and deep green. The eyes are drawn and anchored to the middle where she hangs the anchoring pieces of art.
