Watching the new Spider-Noir show, and I gotta say, I love everything about the secretary character Janet. Easily my favorite character so far. First of all, that they'd include a fat character in a show set in the thirties at all is awesome because media likes to pretend fat people didn't exist until the 90s. Secondly that they let her be pretty and have fashionable hair and clothes and makeup. Not to mention the fact that she's confident and sexy, when she walks into the police station all eyes are on her. She's smart, she's a baddie, she takes no shit from anyone. 10/10 character.

I might be naive, but I keep thinking “early Micky Mouse and Winnie the Pooh are in the public domain, that’s like two worlds in Kingdom Hearts. Why aren’t y’all making a public domain kingdom hearts?”

Like one world is old cartoons like Mickey, Popeye, and Betty Boop, one world could be Sherlock Holmes solving mysteries in Victorian England, one world is gothic horror like Frankenstein and Dracula, one world is public domain superheroes like Zippo and Tomboy, et cetera. Like that sounds like it could be a fun adventure series exploring stories and media across the centuries. Maybe the villain is a pastiche of Jospeh Campbell who tries to wedge these stories into little boxes? Maybe Grant Morrison cameos, if the plot is about the nature of stories. I don’t know, I can’t come up with all the ideas.

Seriously, there are so many more interesting ideas than “what if a public domain character was a slasher villain.” I once saw an idea someone had where Popeye punches Cthulhu, that’s great.

Bah, I just tried to see if you could do a Betty Boop/Great Gatsby crossover, but the latter took place some eight years prior to her debut.

...But some of the Jeeves and Wooster stories are both contemporary to her AND in the public domain.

Leave it to next year and you could have them hang out with Sam Space, as the Maltese Falcon enters the public domain on January first.
