Alex is never given a gun by MI6. This was agreed before the first book was even written and it’s something I've often played with. Alex always wants a gun and slightly resents being sent into danger without one. He does get a gun in his hands in Point Blanc, but it jams. Then, in Eagle Strike, he steals Yassen’s Grach MP-443 and although he never intentionally fires it, he begins to understand the real horror of inflicting a bullet wound on a human being as Yassen taunts him: "… you will live with what you have done for the rest of your life." And in Scorpia, he actually takes a shot at Mrs Jones, although he deliberately misses. I hate to say it, but my publishers are probably right. Getting shot is brutal and images of kids with guns bring to mind unpleasant images of high school killings in America. I want these books to be fun. So it’s best to give gun violence a miss.

I know it's probably just Ahorz reusing names, but it does amuse me that Skoda's drug dealing partner at the start of Point Blanc is called Mike Beckett, and Helen's maiden name was Helen Beckett. He's even described as blond-haired, like Helen. AU where one of the drug dealers Alex nearly killed with his crane stunt is actually his cousin.

You know when dogs walk next to their owners and keep staring up at them, looking at their hands and face? That's DDBS Alex with Yassen to me, always keeping an eye on Yassen's reactions and mood and reacting to the slightest gestures, part of his focus always on Yassen regardless of who else may be in the room

yassen retirementhoughts haunting me. does anyone have any ideas of what hey think he does… i think he wants an apartment in st. petersburg but commander hill and alex say it’s not secure enough so he does a slightly fancier cabin in thw woods situation outside the city and moves the fer de lance to a port in st. petersburg. i also think that we’ll he definitely doesn’t slack off he realizes that he can actually sleep more than 4 hours a night and still get done what he needs to do. and maybe sometimes he only exercises for 1.5 instead of two hours. i think he probably spends most of his time at home but occasionally visits malagosto to check up on alex and maybe teach some classes. and he takes a couple of contracts with the mafia but only if they’re genuinely challenging and require creativity because he wants to have fun. and he learns more languages and all sorts of skills with his free time but what else does he do….

Rereading that DDBS chapter where Alex gets to celebrate his 16th birthday and:

Alex still had no idea of Yassen's plans, but they stopped for breakfast at a fancy-looking bakery on the way. Birthday privileges apparently extended to that as well, because Yassen made a 'go on' sort of gesture and let Alex have his pick. Five minutes later and some amount of money poorer saw Alex happily chew his way through a chocolate croissant that was probably more butter than flour and with a decent-sized box of additional 'breakfast' by his side.

It's so cute but also I can't help picturing Jack in the background watching Alex look to Yassen for permission before buying pastries despite having his own money going like 😬😬😬
