Twine and HTML reminiscing
Predictably, I’m running behind schedule on my new Interactive Fiction adventure. But! Like all the writing that I’ve done, I’m learning a great deal about what to do and not do in the future. I’ve already secured a new URL for all of my game work, and that site should go live by Monday at the latest.
It’ll be the most simplistic site I’ve ever built, too. I’m building it, and the interactive fiction I’m writing, in Twine. It’s really great. I can think of only two other times I’ve enjoyed working with HTML this much:
1)The very first time I learned about making web sites in Netscape Navigator 3.0 Gold. Netscape was great and I’ll not have you tell me otherwise. The fact that the Gold version included its own basic HTML editor was super cool. I used to build web sites that lived on floppy disks, before uploading them to places like my ISP personal webhosting, geocities, and space I was provided on school servers.
2) Learning about how to properly code HTML from scratch in college, in a basic text editor like notepad. My programming language patience has always topped out at something like...BASIC, so HTML is the perfect level of complexity for me personally.
I was able to pick up most of the facets of Twine in an afternoon...and then my project grew to an absurd level of sophistication overnight. I may start working on something intentionally tiny alongside it to help limit my brain a bit, and also so that I can actually get something writing-related out one of these days. :)
