what I ate for breakfast...day #0
hello dear www, So, this is me, failing at keeping a blog running. haha. I’ve started this foodinstaaccount, kept it running for a little while and then quit again. well, it’s been a busy year. but here I am, restarting both my blog and my instaaccount again.
this time for real, because I need to track the next weeks, what I’ve been eating etc to see if my gut health improves. as I posted previous I’m intolerant to alliums (garlic, leek, onions...) and I’ve been vegan for a bit more than two years now. this is not the easiest combination, as you might guess. and while I’ve managed it quite well at home, eating out sucks. it really does. and I’m sick of not being able to enjoy a night out at a restaurant because I already know that I will suffer from cramps and bloating etc.
while I’ve been researching ways to improve my gut health I stumbled across “Eating Clean” by Amie Valpone, an American who’s been suffering from chronic illness and autoimmune diseases for over ten years until she finally cured herself with food.
so I’m going to give this a try for the next couple of weeks. and while I’m a bit afraid of cutting out even more stuff from my mealplan, I’m happy because I really think this could help me and as a nice side effect help me produce less waste! yay!
so this little series for the at least next three weeks is called: “what I ate for breakfast...day #X”
so what did I have for breakfast?? well today... I didn’t start with the clean eating thing yet. I just came home from a trip to Spain and Portugal and was invited to join friends for breakfast. vegan pancakes and vegan omelette...yummie!
but I started the day with some hot water & lemon with a tiny tiny bit of salt. this is a part of a “Yoga Ritual” series I’ve just started again by Adriene Mishler (goddess of youtube-yoga!! <3). In “Yoga Ritual” you do a yoga&meditation session each day, start with water & a lemon slice and a walk. (I haven’t done the practice yet...gonna do it before bedtime, unwind the day etc...)
of course the dietary change isn’t limited to breakfast, so I will give you an insight of what I had for lunch: buddha bowl! this food trend finally hit me, although I think I kind of did them before they were a thing, just not in a bowl. I had some leftovers from yesterday: brussels sprout hummus, roasted cauliflower, sauerkraut, lettuce & mushrooms, topped with lemon juice and fresh coriander. yummie and good for the bowl flora!! dinnertime? I’ll tell you later, I’m just preparing something, and not sure how it will turn out... hint: squash gnocchis with buckwheat, never cooked with buckwheat before... let’s see!
music of the day: Charlie Cunningham mood of the day: happy to be home, starting to feel fall-timey gut feeling of the day: still upset, but slowly calming down
talk later!
that’s my lunch, by the way :-)
still yearning...
...for north...no worries, not everything changes. but it was time to settle for me, at least for the moment. just when I was about to move back to my home country and start yet again I found those people that I knew I want to spend at least the next couple of years with. so I stayed. In Germany. In Mannheim, to be exact. a city I could never ever have imagined I’d fall for. but when you least expect it...
so this is home now.
well, but that’s not the reason why I’m restarting my blogging activities. the reason lies somewhere else. I’ve been sensitive to garlic & onion for a while now, always trying to ignore it. but in the last two years, it became harder and harder to ignore the symptoms of the intolerance. it’s all the allium stuffed things, not only garlic and onion but leek and spring onions and all those delicious little things...it’s a shame. but well, learn to deal with it, girl.
I quit dairy a bit more than a year ago, another allergy. and transformed into, guess what, yes, a vegan. I don’t want to rub that fact in your face, but I’d like to share some very inspiring recipes with you. vegan is all over the blogging-network and Pinterest really makes my day sometimes. but all of it is stuffed with alliums. so I always have to adjust the recipes. and that’s why I restarted this blog. because I know I’m not the only one out there and maybe someone is interested or looking for some way to work, deal and live with the allergy/intolerance as well. while being vegan. or not even.
talk soon,
z
ICEICE BABY
Halbzeit! Also Halbzeit in Stockholm.
Mir geht's prima hier in Stockholm!
Yeah!
So long - Zora
WINTERSPAZIERGANG
Hallohallo
Happy 2014!
Sorry for the delayed happy new year wishes. My resolution for this year, keep you up to date more often! Haha.
After spending two wonderful weeks at home with my love and family & friends I moved to Stockholm yesterday.
They celebrated the three-kings-day or as they say thirteenth Christmas day, so my internship starts tomorrow!
I'll come back soon with stories and more about my new temporary hometown. And by the way, I thought about switching back to German. Any readers who prefer English?
Gott natt, Zora
Dear readers!
First of all, happy second advent to all of you! Where did all the time go? It's already the 8th of December, not even two weeks left for me here in Kalmar. I'll be home for Christmas and New Years Eve, and then heading to Stockholm, where I'll do my internship! Wohoo!
As I told you we did a trip to Lapland. Amazing! Beautiful landscape all covered in snow, sunrise fading into sunset again, and beautiful stars at the scandinavian night sky. Swedish Lapland. Unfortunately I didn't see any northern lights, but that's just a perfect excuse to go there again. I definitely will!
But what I did see was amazing. At first we went to Kiruna. You can see the sunrise on one of the pictures. The sun didn't come up higher than that!
In the afternoon we went for a ride on the dog-sleigh and even drove snowmobiles ourselves. Anna-Katharina and I had a lot of fun on our mobile ;) (I'll post a picture of that a little later).
The next day we drove to the Abisko national park where the hostel for the next two nights was located. Actually we where trying to go on a daytrip to Narvik but the condition of the street was to bad so our bus had to turn again.
Nevertheless it was a wonderful day, with a bbq in a tent in the evening. And of course Glühwein. Amazing stars. And a night stroll down to the lake, on our watch for northern lights, but the clouds where just to thick to let anything through.
The highlight of the next day was the sauna in the late afternoon. With a bath in the freezing lake which was a 100-meter run away from the sauna. Ouch!
What we did on Thursday as well was a trip to Rensjö, a Sami-village. There we got to pet some reindeers, but I think they didn't like it to much, so I just took some pictures instead. We also got some reindeer meat and while we where there some Sami slaughtered reindeers. The Sami people really appreciate their reindeers, which is nice to know and should be the case whenever an animal gets slaughtered to be served to us humans.
On our way back on friday we stopped at the famous Ice Hotel. They just opened it that day so it wasn't completely finished, but very nice nevertheless.
Got some more pictures, but tumblr only allows 10 a post, so I'm going to show you more soon!
Now am back in Kalmar since yesterday afternoon, still a little tired of the long journey in the bus but happy with all the beautiful impressions.
We got our first snow in Kalmar and right now it's still snowing. I guess we have to walk now, instead of biking. But hey, it's Christmas time! Hope you all have a peaceful Christmas time, so enjoy it and see you soon!
xx
Volle Ladung Stockholm
After being back in Kalmar for only one day, I took off to Stockholm yesterday morning. I took the bus up here and although I slept quite a lot I saw the wonderful landscape passing by which I adore so much here in the North. So I arrived at Stockholm, 3 o´clock and the sun already began it´s unalienable decending. Stockholm, the city I spent my 20. birthday, so many wonderful and adventurous memories flashing up infront of my eyes. Now I´m here on another mission. INTERNSHIP. I went to a wonderful concert evening yesterday, a gala for GREENPEACE and the arctic. Today I got the job, meaning I will spend January till March here! Yay!
In the afternoon I met my friend Jade. A singer/songwriter I know from the time when Manon and I recorded our EPs in Hamburg. Everything seems to work out now and I´m really greatful for that. On sunday I´ll leave to Lapland. Minus 20 degrees. Hopefully northern lights. I´ll keep you up to date. Oh and hej, Swiss friends! Jag kommer tillbaken till Schweiz i jullov!
Puss och kram Zora
Lovely Kalmar! Found this amazong spot close to our house! Soon we're heading to Lapland and I'm really excited for that. Hope to catch great pictures that I can share with you guys!
Fall in Kalmar
Now... I have a confession to make. While enjoying a wonderful holiday at the Côte d'Aquitaine I got addicted. Addicted to kites. I bought this stunt kite and spent hours flying it at the beach, with my boyfriend, dad and his girlfriend helping me "unmess" it all the time :) I wanted to bring my kite to Kalmar as well since I knew it's going to be very windy here as well. But I left it behind :( (forgot it, to be honest)...
...but last Thursday I finally came across a Toystore and bought a new, colorful stunt kite. So today I went to the beach with my two Spanish neighbors and we let the stunt kite fly high. Above you can see some impressions. I wish I could do this everyday. It's just a wonderful feeling whenever you feel the wind got a grasp of your kite, tearing it away from you. Feels like freedom, feels like childhood and you wish the moment would never pass.
So if you're wondering why I'm not writing more often... now I got a good excuse, I spend time at the beach, playing with my stunt kite, and get carried away to some unknown places in my imagination...
...and if you wonder about the last picture...electricity went down just before we returned home...so we got a cosy-kitchen-game-time with guitar & card games - very nice!
...I know, I know, I should blog more often to tell you more about my life here in Kalmar. To make up for the long silence I decided to share a lot of pictures with you (which are by my wonderful boyfriend)!
A lot happened since my last entry! I had my first exam (still waiting for the results though), my dearest boyfriend & aunt were here and I was in Göteborg with some new friends...
...my boyfriend and Ines came for a couple of days and together we explored Kalmar and it's surroundings. We went to Öland, the island just a in front of the Kalmar coastline, visited a moose-park near Nybro, saw the glass factory in Boda and enjoyed Fika!
...last weekend we made a trip to Göteborg since it's cheap to rent a car with the studentcard discount. Friday the 4th was Kanelbullar day in whole Sweden, therefore we celebrated this very special day with some Hagabullen (the special cinamonbun from the Haga-quarter in Göteborg) - delicious! And of course we had a huge breakfast at Café Kriglan, the same Café my friend Aline and I had breakfast two years ago. Planning to go to Göteborg? Stop there, it's a must!
...now I'm back to university life since I'm already in the middle of my third course (marketing & branding) and my second course (swedish), is about to finish in a couple of days. Studying makes fun though, at least at the moment :)
Well, that's it for the moment, enjoy the pictures and hear you (Skype? Mail? What's App? Feel free!)
XX
Soorry...
...for not blogging in a while. It's been a busy time as I should study for my first exam here in Kalmar. Since the introduction weeks are over it's not as busy as before, but still a lot of activities are going on.
Last Saturday I went to the canoe trip, organized by ESN. I left my camera at home, cause I was a little afraid to drop it... I regret it now... :) But maybe I'll get access to a few pictures from the others and I can share them with you as well.
Before I forget it: I'm in Kalmar for 4 weeks and 1 day now. Time went by so fast, can't believe that my first course is almost done and only 3 more months in Kalmar (not even 3 months!)...
2 weeks ago Viktoria took us to the MEM(Music- and Eventmanagement) sittning. Everyone had to dress up as a singer/band/figure/thing from an album cover. It was really funny even tough almost everything was in Swedish.
Now, that it's been 4 weeks since I'm here, it is time to get some visitors. My boyfriend and my auntie 're coming over. I'm sure I'll got a hell lot of pictures and good memories to share after their visit.
So long & take care Zora
