Old missile silos go deep into the ground, but sometimes people buy the old rusty abandoned ones and make homes out of them. You’ve never seen anything like this one, though- someone made a farm out of it.
It looks like a farmhouse with a silo or castle-like tower on top of the property.
However, it still looks like an isolated military facility from the air, and still has the old entrance.
We begin our tour on the top floor of the property that has a living area, kitchen, & bedroom.
Then, it’s all down from there, b/c it’s a missile silo, after all.
This home is so huge and complicated- notice the industrial style ceilings.
Down deeper is another, much larger kitchen.
How in the world did they build this place and get all this stuff inside?
As we ascend deeper down, there’s another living area with a kitchen.
Deeper underground.
Until we’re in the belly of the beast. They kept some of the cool old equipment.
Look at the huge workshop area.
This place is vast.
And, finally, the light of day at the back entrance.

Olivia had a fire going a couple hours later. They sat around it in the backyard, holding steaming cups of hot cider in the chilly March air.
“This is nice,” Cleo said, taking a sip and wincing as she burned her tongue.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back?” Olivia asked, glancing over at the baby monitor beside her. “I could have made dinner or something.”
Cleo shook her head. “No, God, I wouldn’t expect you to do that. Sorry, I should have texted though. Especially since I don’t have anywhere else to stay. Well, maybe my mom’s but I don’t think she’d be comfortable with that.”

Cleo has been back in Massachusetts for three days now. She’d finally told the others she was home and had been in regular contact with Andrew and Olivia. But they hadn’t asked her when she was coming back to New Winslow and she hadn’t brought it up herself.
She’d had every intention of going back as soon as the tour ended. She was going to drop her things off, then rent a car and head straight back to New Winslow and her responsibility to her friends. But she just…hadn’t.
Instead she’d just kind of lingered around her apartment. She took long baths, slept too much, and laid on the couch listening to music. And when she wasn’t in the apartment she was taking long, freezing walks around the city. These walks led nowhere in particular and a small part of her started to wonder if it was her unconscious way of starting to say goodbye to the city.

Olivia gradually woke up to the sound of singing in her room. It was a masculine voice, pulling her back to consciousness with a scratchy melody.
“Noah, I swear to God…” she murmured, turning to glare at Noah.
Who was still asleep beside her, snoring softly. But the voice was still singing and she gradually realized the song wasn’t in a language she understood.
She sat up, blinking in the dim light coming through the window. The voice was coming from inside the room and as she glanced around, she spotted the spirit by the foot of the bed.

Olivia was making tacos tonight. She browned the beef, breaking it down in her cast-iron skillet over the stove as the radio played. The station was a little staticky, but not bad enough to be worth going over and changing it. Plus it was Sinatra Hour, so the static added some charm.
She heard Mia giggling in the living room and smiled. Andrew was in there with her and last she’d seen, he was giving Mia pony rides around the room. Judging by the gleeful laugh, followed by his own, he was still doing so.

The basement was a mess. While Olivia’s storage unit was as neatly organized as it could get, Noah’s was still filled with basement detritus from one he’d bought the house. He had been planning to clear it up for a year now but hadn’t actually gotten to it. But now was as good a time as any to do it. Mid-February, twenty degrees outside. Which meant it was twenty-five in the basement. The snow provided that little bit of insulation.
His breath fogged in front of him as he pulled the last bag of random shit out of the darkened corner. The previous owners of the house, an elderly couple who had sold it to move to warmer climates, hadn’t cleared out anything in the basement when they moved. And most of it was water or cold damaged by now. Not that he had been planning to keep anything.
Except that ottoman in the corner maybe. That was a nice ottoman.

It was freezing at the town line and Iris adjusted her scarf as she stood outside her car at the side of the road. The sun had been down for a couple hours now and after a little while of preparation at the store, they were now an hour into attempting to get Andrew over the town line.
“I still feel like we’re missing something with the hotel,” Iris said as Andrew approached the Welcome to New Winslow sign, holding a red taper candle and desperately trying to keep it lit in the winter wind. “It’s shown up a couple times, but never in anything official or major.”
Andrew stopped short at the town line, the candle going out abruptly as he hit the invisible barrier.

Roman walked into Keegan’s and brushed the snow off of his coat. It was really not much more than a flurry, but they’d probably be getting more tonight.
The place was pretty empty. He could see someone sitting in a booth, their back to him, but that seemed to be it for customers. Then he spotted Noah working the bar.
“Hey, Noah,” he called as walked over.
Noah looked over and turned scarlet. “Roman,” he nodded. “Um, can I help you?”
“Is Olivia here?” Roman asked. “She said she could lend me some tomatoes. My order never arrived today.”
“Oh, yeah, she’s out back.”
Noah looked away and Roman felt a spark of sympathy. He’d been there.

Cleo’s phone was ringing. She shot awake instantly, pulling out of a foggy dream involving waves. Edie muttered something from the other bed, but didn’t wake up.
“Hello?” Cleo mumbled into the phone.
“Hi, Cleo, did I wake you?”
Jenna. Why was Jenna calling? Jenna never called, she only texted. Even in emergencies.
Cleo glanced at the hotel clock. Ten fifteen. “Hmm, no, no, I’m good. Hang on.”
She slipped on her shoes and grabbed her jacket. New Orleans was much warmer than Massachusetts right now, but it didn’t mean it was anywhere near hot outside.
She stepped out of the room and onto the sidewalk outside. They’d spent the night at a Motel 6, stumbling in around three, still buzzing from the night’s performance. Now that the adrenaline from the abrupt wakeup was fading, Cleo could feel her eyes drooping and she was tempted to crawl back into bed and talk there.
