#insomnia HECK YEAH #mostly as a trauma response #like a character who has already been through the awful stuff and is now in a safe place #but they don’t FEEL safe so they don’t sleep until their body forces them to via illness #which also forces them to be vulnerable and accept help #help which makes them realize that they truly are safe now

new headcanon that “yiga” means traitor in the Sheikah language and it’s also like a state you can be, in the sense that if you do enough things that are morally wrong/opposed to Sheikah society, you get deemed yiga and ostracized. The Yiga Clan claimed it as their tribe name to make a specific statement, as well as clearly establish their intentions.

#always been my headcanon #if they’re going to call you a traitor for doing what you think is right #then maybe the best thing to do to make a statement is wear that word as a badge of honor

I also think the Yiga worship the guardian frogs found in Kakariko still btw. Paya refers to them as "guardian deities" iirc, and the Yiga still have them in front of their hideout, literally guarding it! They even have little "masks"

Y’know, that whole “Destroy the Yiga Clan” mission in Age of Calamity is actually pretty messed up when you think about it for more than five seconds. Like, as far as I remember, there’s no indication of what ‘Team Hyrule’ intends to do on that mission besides the title, and that title is…uh…yikes.

And it’s even worse because they bust in using Vah Naboris. Like, imagine being Kohga in that situation. Your ancestors were persecuted, murdered, and banished because they didn’t want to bury this pinnacle of magic and technology. Now you finally get to see it in-person, but it’s being driven right into your home and you have a very limited amount of time to get the children, elderly, and disabled to safety before they’re crushed by the debris. Also, considering your opponents’ objective is to “destroy the Yiga Clan”, any Yiga they find including you and your closest friends/confidants will almost certainly be captured and put to death.

(and yeah I know that last part is somewhat dependent on Kohga knowing their intentions, but…come on. they drove a giant camel mech through his front door and came at everyone they saw with knives. he’s silly but he’s not an idiot. I think he saw the writing on the wall at that point.)

My favorite way to think of the whole “multiple Links and Zeldas and Ganondorfs” is that they aren’t reincarnations, but they’re not exactly new souls either. They’re avatars like in Hinduism.

So (and this is simplified because I myself don’t know a WHOLE ton about Hinduism and there are likely many variants as all myths/religions have), the three ‘main’ gods in Hinduism are the Trimurti, made up of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the preserver of Brahma’s creations, and Shiva, though not evil, is the destroyer. Now, the parallels should already be pretty obvious, but there’s more. Brahma is associated with birds (admittedly cranes or swans rather than owls) and wields a divine weapon commonly depicted as an arrow. Vishnu will send an avatar or incarnation of himself to earth to defend the world when chaotic or destructive forces are particularly restless. Shiva is associated with the moon and wields a trident. There’s a lot in common between the Trimurti and the Triforce Trio.

Now, the avatars of Hinduism are…interesting. As far as I understand, an avatar is like a piece of a god’s essence or soul that they chip off and send as a mortal incarnation. When this incarnation dies, they simply join back with the rest of the god. Fun fact, Vishnu has the most avatars, being the most active in the mortal world.

So, yeah, that’s my explanation. I think it’d be cool if every ‘reincarnation’ of the Triforce Trio were actually all different avatars of Hylia, the First Hero, and the Bringer of Demise. Heck, this would even explain Linkle in Hyrule Warriors! Both Krishna and Balarama were alive at the same time, even being raised as brothers, and both are stated to be avatars of Vishnu!
