Post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes Reading List.
I am ever so delighted that since I finished the MAIN series I have had 4 people in my DMs wanting to know an official reading order. This is amazing. So for those who might be a little more message shy here is a list for you to take, keep, and read.
You might see this order and think it's weird, trust me it, it is. The reason why it is weird is because 1.) the Zero Hour event in 1994 rebooted the team in the middle of two books, so the creators drafted up a new start with a #0 issue and 2.) LOSH had two books per month.
Anyway, here is your primary PZH LOSH guide.
Legions of Super-Heroes (1989) has been shortened to "LOSH 1989" for simplicity.
Primary Run
LOSH 1989 #0
Legionnaires #0
LOSH 1989 #62
Legionnaires #19 then you switch back and forth and the comics will guide you where to go at the end of each issue. You do this all the way until the series ends. Don't forget the annuals!
Legion Lost 2000
Legion Worlds
The Legion
Teen Titans/Legion Special - The "end" of their run
Final Crisis: Legion of the Three Worlds - They are revealed to be alive still! Bart and Kon are brought back from dead.
Other Specials and Fun Things
Titans/Legion of Super-Heroes: Universe Ablaze - Read this sometime in the last 10 issues of the primary run.
Legion: Secret Files
Legion of Super-Heroes Secret Files
Showcase '96 Issues #11 & #12 - LOSH '89 should tell you when to jump to these two, you will read them when Querl and the lost Legionnaires are stranded in 1996.
Genesis 1997 - The Genesis Event, you will read this sometime during the time the Legionnaires are stranded in the 90s.
Inferno 1997 - A mini for Inferno, you should read this after Inferno breaks from the stranded Legionnaires in the 90s.
Adventures in the DC Universe Issue #10 - Just a fun little story.
There are many other appearances of this team in the 90s comics, particularly when they are stranded in the 1990s. Their book is particularly good however at informing you where to go, and if they appeared somewhere else.
Thank you, and happy reading.
Legionnaires #47 You want to read Jenni's run sooooo badly. Do it for her.
super random question you may or may not be able to answer (or maybe you've answered already i don't know sorry sdjsjds), but i was wondering if you new the best comics featuring bart allen? i've read impulse 1995, and young justice 1998 & 2019 already and i was just wanting to know if there was anything else decent featuring him!
His origins in The Flash (1987) starting with Issue #92 is a GREAT place to backtrack to if you have not done so yet. Honestly, a lot of his initial appearances as Impulse are worth reading!
NOTE: this list is NOT EXHAUSTIVE. This is just what I remember right now that I could easily come up with. One day I really need to make an in-depth reading guide that separates all his appearances by his relevancy.
I do highly recommend the following issues;
The Flash (1987) #92-101 - These are his intro issues leading up to his solo series.
The New Teen Titans (1988) #114, #0, #115-#118, Annual #11, #122 - His time as a Titan under Roy where he is friends with Grant. Roy is also kind and patient with him and is able to work with him in ways that Wally struggled severely with.
Single Character Interactions, these are issues where Bart is interacting more or less one on one with a character that are fun to check out.
Adventures of Superman #533 - Clark and him solve a mystery together.
Robin Plus (Impulse) - Bart and Tim's first official meeting during a ski trip.
Superboy and the Ravers #7 - you can't miss his first real meeting with Kon as they flirt back and forth can you?
Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) #88 - Bart and Brainiac 5 find out they are kindred spirits and cause mayhem together. Ends on a bit of an ouch for Bart though, but he walks away with a good friend in Brainiac 5.
Other random issues.
Impulse Plus (Gross Out) - Bart in Scare Tactics is a delight.
Legends of the DC Universe #19 "Impulse" - So this one does have some outdated humor and some inappropriate shots of Carol, but it still has value giving us a Manchester story with some fun interactions between Bart, Max, Preston, and Carol. This issue is also VERY often overlooked.
Adventures in the DC Universe #13 - I always suggest this one and I will continue to suggest this one: Bart meets The Impulsives, a band named after him, and helps J'onn solve a mystery.
The Flash (1987) #145-#148 "Chain Lightning Saga" - The Flash Family rips through time together and meet various decedents and speedsters as they attempt to thwart Colbalt Blue.
Flash 80 Page Giant #1 "The 5000 Rats of Bartholomew Allen" - The title says it all, it is also where he got his mice.
Superboy (1994) #83, #92 & #99 - These 3 all feature Bart on more than one page, in 83 he tries to help Kon get his groove back, in #92 it is the FAMOUS Kon issue where he imagines Bart as the White Rabbit and a Playboy Bunny joke is made, and in #99 Bart scrambles to save an alternative de-powered Kon from Doomsboy and another scout is killed in the process.
Flashpoint: Kid Flash Lost #1-#3 - Also another series I HIGHLY recommend for all Bart lovers. It is a bittersweet goodbye and love letter to his character right before the N52 reboot. Honestly it is some of the BEST Bart content as Kid Flash, if not THE best.
Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #15 - This is an ELSEWORLDS that I again strongly recommend. Based entirely on the LoSH cartoon Impulse is in his VR program (still) and needs the Legionnaires to help save the lives of sentient AIs from a threat.
Again this is not exhaustive but it still has quite a bit of Bart content that might have been missed!
i hope this isn't too big of an ask but i have an idea for a fic with jenni and bart and i really want to get jenni right. is it possible that you could create a jenni specific reading list? i basically want to read only the comics she shows up in. im not saying that legion of supers is bad i just dont have the time to read everything for one person.
Post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes but it's only Jenni Ognats Reading List (you're still reading a lot of comics anon).
** NOTE ** Jenni is a reoccurring character in two comic series that run simultaneously for a long time; Legionnaires and Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) - you will be flipping back and forth between series. For my sanity, I am grouping the series separately and listing just the issues she appears in.
Suggested LOSH reading.
Legionnaires
#0 - Her first appearance #19-#27 #29 & #30 #35-#43 #45 #50 #53 #55 & #56 #58 & #59 #61 & #62 #64 & #65 #76 - #81 Annual #2 Annual #3 - Jenni centric, this is her journey back to the 30th century after she leaves Bart in Impulse #12
Legion of Super-Heroes (1989)
#62-#69 #72 #75 #80-#84 #88 #91 #100 #104-#106 #108 #120 #122 & #123 #125 Annual #6 - Her origin story Annual #7
Once these series end you will no longer be flipping back and forth.
Teen Titans/Legion of Super-Heroes: Universe Ablaze
#1 & #2 #4
Legion Lost (2000)
#1 - She doesn't really say anything or do anything so this may be skipped honestly.
Legion Worlds
#1 #4 #6
The Legion
#4 #6 #10-#18 #20 #22 & #23 #25 #27-#29 #32 & #33
Teen Titans/Legion Special
Single issue. The 'end' of her primary run where she and her team are flung into the Void to become the new Wanderers.
Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds
#1-#5 - Where Geoff Johns retconns her origin (it's his primary thing) and gets multiple things wrong but she does play an important role.
That is it for her primary 'team' appearances, there are many other comics however that she appears in!
Suggested Flash reading
Impulse (1995)
#9-#12
The Flash (1987)
#108-#111 #145 - #150
The Flash 80 Page Giant (1999) #2
Single issue. Jenni uncovers some history concerning Wally that leaves her hopeful...
Other suggested comics
Young Justice: Our Worlds at War Special
Single issue, not much happens but she does meet with Bart.
Green Lantern (1990)
#98 - Jenni meets Kyle Rayner and talks about how Green Lanterns and Speedsters go together, Kyle nopes out.
Impulse et Max Mercury

I wanna start reading triangle era superman but I didnât realize it was like a whole decade of comics. And thatâs just a bit too much with the amount of other series I need to get around to. So in your opinion what are the most important arcs and which ones are your favourite? And which ones have the most kon in them because I am obsessed.
asdfjsk yeah it's definitely a solid chunk of comics. very worth it overall but i def get it, it's quite the time investment!! if you ever need it and haven't already seen it btw there is a whole beautiful reading list for the whole era here :)
but as for specific ones i'd rec... let's see. okay. i think i'll categorize this as bold being important issues plotwise or for character stuff, and italics being my favorites.
TRIANGLE ERA READING RECS, RIMI EDITION.
eta i accidentally hit post instead of save to drafts bc im a clown. give me a few hours and ill have the actual full thing up sdlkfjsdl
Action Comics #662
Superman (1987) #53 (the first few pages are important as follow-up to Clark revealing his identity to Lois; the rest is some kinda racist garbage)

I mean I would definitely be depressed and self isolating too if a dream I had for so long was stripped away from me, thought for a second that I was a part of a reason my sister nearly died, don't have any friends and along with that a trusted adult (COUGH JESSE COUGH) that my parents trusted bascailly sidelined my existence and never apologized
Yeah I think Jai by this time wasn't just "playing video games all day" he was depressed and trying to find a way to comfort himself from basically his whole life crashing down on him and remember! He didn't smile after this!! I checked he doesn't smile again until after the universe is over in convergence Speedforce and then later in flash forward, JESSE APOLOGIZE TO THIS KID
girl who sat next to me at the coffee shop had that Tortured By Computer Work look in her eye so i turned to her and was like Are u doing research? and it turns out she (white) just started working as an indigenous liaison for an ecological wellness surveying company (hired bc she worked with the local nation for a year) so i was like OMG can i share resources with you. and whipped out my 1 million notes and academic papers on ethical Indigenous-settler relations/research and Indigenous perspectives on ecological restoration. she was like omg are u sure this is basically a whole course for free and i wanted to tear my shirt off liek YES!!!! I WANT TO PROMOTE LOW BARRIER EDUCATION TO ADVANCE DECOLONIZATION AND RECONCILIATION!!!!!!!!!!! STEP IN2 MY GOOGLE DOC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i plan 2 make accessible the learnings from my other classes too but i think ill only have time to do all that anonymizing & reformatting once i graduate in a few months lol
anyway thinking about donna + diana and the ideas of femininity
diana raised where being a woman was a point of pride and cultural celebration etc etc but most importantly the norm
and donna being here. only girl in a team of boys. everyoneâs crush, the trophy they want to win. mom friend but not the leader. donna who always listens and says honey and never yells. donna who got married and had a child barely out of college. donna who put wife above wonder girl. above hero. above friend. donna who failed at it anyway.
Thinking about how the shackles of âwomanhoodâ (her performance of idealised femininity) drag her down and hold her back while they empower diana. And how diana is Wonder Woman but donna was only ever Wonder Girl before dropping the gender signifier entirely.
itâs so easy for diana to be a woman, easy as breathing and just as natural and uncomplicated, diana isnât thinking about it or trying to live up to some ideal, she just *is* but donna struggles and struggles and tries and fails and hurts.
but a core part of performing femininity is the âeffortlessnessâ of grace and itâs not like diana would understand anyway (she would but donna doesnât believe that) so donna will stay quiet. keep it to herself like every other raw and ugly part because she wants to be perfect before real. when you're the only girl in a room full of boys, you need to be.
