I was so hyped when I first read the summary and realized it was an AU of my childhood favorite movie 50 first dates! The fic is so beautiful and I can’t wait to read the full story once it’s finished!

The final battle rages. The party levels their attacks on the Mindflayer. El spars with Vecna. Will looks poised to tap in for the assist. The camera pans up to show us the entire scene. The it pans higher still. Up and up and up. In the distance, we see the monster army. Demogorgons. Demodogs. Demobats. Demoshitwehaveneverevenheardof. It's clear that there's no way the party can win. Once this army gets to them, they'll cut through our heroes like a hot knife slicing through room temperature mozzarella. It'll be a goddamn bloodbath. Not just a total party kill but a total party erasure.

The camera starts to zoom in again, zeroing in tight on this absolute horde of death that lies in wait. At the forefront, we see him. Wings. Fingernails long and sharp and curved. Teeth made for ripping. Familiar tattoos. Long, dark curls. Brown eyes turned molten gold by whatever transformation he has endured. Undead, inhuman, Eddie Munson paces before the monster army, tattered boots scuffing back and forth across a large boulder. "And why? For the sake of some Grand Plan we don't give two shits about? Oh no! We, The Hive, aren't doing it anymore. Not under these hazardous fucking conditions. Not without a little bit of give on Their part." A loud road of approval. Eddie stops his pacing and looks at his brethren head on with a feral, unhinged smile. "I'm doing it, guys. I'm calling for a boycott." The monsters roar louder, a clamorous din that shakes the very earth beneath them. They do not fight that day.

But does Dustin know that Erica saw a picture of him with Mr. Clarke that inspired her to come up with a way to save his life?

Does Dustin know that she spent hours working on a way to get back in contact with him? Dealing with fucking Murray and you know she hates his bald ass.

Does Dustin know that Erica talks about how smart he is when he isn't around?

Did they have a moment after she went into the Upside Down to find him? Did he ask what Mr. Clarke was doing there and Erica told him that she got him to build a telemetry tracker so they could locate and contact him and that she got that idea because she saw Dustin's picture on the wall????

Did they hug or at least high five? Duffers!!!!

WHY HAVE DUSTIN AND ERICA HAD NO SCENES THEY HAVE ONE OF THE BEST DYNAMICS ON THE SHOW?

The concept of Will finally gaining a stable father figure through Hopper, but forever feeling like he's taking Jane's place.

The concept of Hopper having to learn how to be a father to two sons after having two daughters.

The concept of Will telling his college friends that he's a twin, and showing them pictures of Jane, forever frozen at 16, and them telling him they see the resemblance.

The concept of Jonathan getting Will back, but still mourning a younger sibling in the end.

The concept of the Hopper-Byers family never getting to live all together under one roof.

The concept of Will’s college friends joking about how everyone in Will’s family has a name starting with J except for him, and him having to resist saying that his sister also had another name that sounded similar to his own.

The concept of Hopper seeing Will huddled asleep in Jane's old room one night and just seeing Jane for a second.

The concept of Jonathan making a film about overcoming abuse and dedicating it to Jane.

Just the concept of the Hopper-Byers family post Jane's death.

Steve YELLED “For Eddie” sounding like a revengeful wife while he attacked Vecna with Eddie’s spear and wearing Eddie’s shield

I cant believe this is not from a steddie fanfic but actually happened on the show

first you think oh, blowing up the pregnant women was horrible because the writers never even thought of them as human beings worth rescuing even in some offscreen way.

then you realize it's worse: the writers decided to characterize Kali and El (the only ones who knew about the pregnant women) as considering those women and their babies potential monsters and were intentionally killing them along with the lab.

in the same breath as El saying she knows now that she isn't a monster, she says her blood can be used to make "more monsters, more Henrys". so those children might be monsters just by virtue of having the powers/blood... which El just said does not make her one...

they had El see her own origins and even experience her own birth through Terry's pov, not to mention her own entire lived experience, and still regard those imprisoned women and their babies as a part of the program to be stamped out instead of victims of it to be rescued.

they made Kali and El's mission a mass-murder-suicide pact.

something something Vecna calling his victims 'sacrifices' to, essentially, himself in pursuit of 'breaking the world' vs elkali technically murdering a bunch of people by including them without their consent in their heroic 'self sacrifice' to end the program ... like father like daughter or something I guess?

only taking away eleven’s happy ending isn’t a good look when you realise she is the only one out of the main group who was abused and tormented throughout their whole life. the realism excuse doesn’t work here when max gets to walk again, and hopper survived that explosion in s3.

"there was never a version of the story where eleven was hanging out with the gang at the end. for our characters to move on and for the story of hawkins and the upside down to come to a close, eleven had to go away."

this also implies that el was a burden to everybody else & for them to be happy, she has to die. it sends a gross message and with all the other fuck ups recently, i just think the duffers should never write an lgbtq+ character, an abuse victim OR a female character ever again. they clearly have no idea how to navigate that and what they did to el, kali, will, robin and vickie really makes that clear to me.

i’ll always love this show as i grew up with it… but i hope they never get to write complex storylines again 🤷‍♀️

edit: just found out they said they didn’t kill off max because she went through all that trauma and it would be “mean”… the duffer brothers truly never saw el as a human. they saw her as a machine

Something else I haven’t seen anyone talking about is how Max was fully able to skate 18 months after waking up from a 2-year-trace and having significant trauma in her legs (as in being snapped in half). There is not way the break alone would not cause permanent damage + the level of atrophy that must have ocurred, even if massages and daily stimulation happened while at the hospital.

Even with physical therapy, Max would not be able to move around with that much ease. Especially not without a mobility aid, such as a cane.

In fact, nearly nobody who survived suffered from any type of permanent damage.

Karen Wheeler should have lost her voice, or at least have her voice changed, she does have the scars, but those curs were DEEP. And the fact that no one else was significantly hurt in the final battle (which in my opinion was laughably rushed and underwhelming) is downright unbelievable.

It’s almost as if the writers were afraid of having any characters suffer any physical injury for some reason.

And a bit unrelated… why were there so many allusions to Will losing an eye???

Also, what did they do to my beautiful Robin?? What did she mean "overbearing significant others"??

And maybe nitpicky, where was her pizzazz in the epilogue?? Where is you charm?!!
