wtf is with the Piggyback void color logic
doesn't matter anymore but sometimes I still think about her (the Max death / El's amnesia about it situation) so I'm just poking at an old post
events of Piggyback irt El and Max as cliffs notes for myself because it's so hard to remember what order everything happens in:
El finds Max in the attic and enters her mind
El shows up at the Snow Ball
Vecna brings El and Max to the mind lair
El throwing Vecna / everybody burning the demothings jars the connection so Max drops but is still tranced
Vecna gets molotov'd / mind lair goes up in smoke / Max wakes up
alright so here's the void lighting. this blue makes sense because El isn't in Max's mind yet here, this is just the attic
but then all the mind lair stuff happens, ending with it going up in smoke. the lair-red lighting remains on El even after her red surroundings are totally black - signifying, I thought, that she's still in Vecna's mind even though the construct of the house is gone. so I was like, aha, the super red Max death scene means they're actually still in Vecna's mind.
welll but in between the void-smoke and red-death-scene shots, El's back in the blue attic void again. we are not shown how El navigates from one setting to the other. here's Max dying in IRL and void views.
then the gates open, and we get red again.
but whereas IRL there's both red and blue (due to gate + bug light) now in the void it's all red. what tiny cool tones are there are like a muted nighttime teal rather than that vivid bug light blue.
I always wondered why the gate glow was depicted as so much more intense in the void, when the real question should've been, why did the bug light blue disappear in the El version. was this no longer supposed to be set in the remote version of the IRL attic? but then why is Lucas there.
the conclusion is "idk and it doesn't matter" but I still sometimes try to make sense of what the writers' intention was here. I really still wish I understood why Max spent like 2 more years in the trance she was shown onscreen waking up from, and why El didn't seem to remember any of this.
the same red is used in s5 when Max climbs to the attic but instead finds mind lair. so I was gonna try to say that maybe El only revived Max in the mind lair and that's why she's stuck there.
but she woke up and spoke IRL. idk man I hate it here
