Calvin Dominic, Secretary Extraordinaire

Believe it or don't, this originally started out with me trying to come up with another concept art out for Courtney, Calvin's colleague and the (existing) secretary for the group; and looking for references to use for inspiration. It ended up drifted from ideas regarding Courtney to ideas about a male secretary...and from there, it came full circle but with a different conclusion ("this originally started with Courtney...and Calvin is right there, so...")

The pivot in ideas actually worked out well, because these are just a sample of the ideas I'm (still!) coming up for Secretary C.D. His personality lends itself to a lot of fun ideas as is; and for me, adding "office lad(y)" to his repertoire adds some nice fuel to the existing fire that is Calvin's character dynamics.

For those wondering why my art output has gone quiet for the past couple of weeks, it's because I'm currently on a trip and away from my desktop setup. (I should be heading back home next week.) In the meantime, I have my old laptop and former drawing tablet on standby, which I'm using to learn the Linux [Mint] OS and the Krita art software--this is the first artwork I've done utilizing the latter program.

This TumblrTopTen also doubles as a blog update--normally I wait until the end of June / we are formally halfway through the year before I start there, but as of this writing I’m currently on a trip/away from my main computer. So in light of that, I’m getting this intermediate TTT out of the way. On that note--although I have gained some (mostly reliable?) internet access where I’m staying, expect art output to slowdown if not stop outright (I have my old drawing tablet and my iPad + Pencil Pro with me, but it may still take a while before I get anything done artwise). Things should be back to normal by mid-July (although I originally wanted to return back home earlier).

Compared to most recent previous Tumblr Top Tens, this year’s halfway stop is a notable step down in total notes--things haven’t been as tranquil since the 2022 intermediate top ten (linked below); although all of the artwork here received more notes on average than the 2022 art posted up to the midpoint. This may or may not be due to less variety in subject matter...no offense to Dewey, who still remains my most popular OC. I do hope to address it for the latter half of the year--I’ve got some idea for art projects I’ve been sitting on (old and new--I still have unfinished business with some stuff I started or teased from last year).

It’s also worth mentioning that some blogs/users that were/are fans my art have also ran afoul of  tumblr’s content filters (for the last time, in some sad cases--some  accounts were ultimately shadowbanned or outright banned), which I  imagine is also a major factor for things becoming more quiet. I also still want to make more space for other hobbies and thus slowdown on my art...unfortunately, that’s still an art goal I have yet to fully address.

Ivory Turismo Concept Doodles

Here's some bonus concept art of my latest "covert" operative OC when I was figuring out his character design and color palette. Given his occupation as a spoiler agent/test agent, I chose the white gloves/boots as his default appearance, but I like the other two variants enough that I plan to use them in tandem as alternate versions. (I think they better help sell the visual of his catsuit being similar to a business suit, and I also think they suit Ivory better for use on legitimate spy missions.)

If neither Ivory's appearance nor his immediate actions in the scene prompt you to willingly suspend your disbelief that he is a secret agent…that's actually the point! While he can be sent out to work as a genuine operative; Ivory's more often sent as a decoy to distract, or as a dummy agent to test security/surveillance defenses. Both of those details certainly serve his warm, congenial personality more anyway.
