Reception Contexts and Media Rituals
Appropriation: “Reflect on instance recent or childhood of when you acquired communication technology” (ex. Ipod, food, tv, computer, games)
Probably like a Nintendo 64 and it was 10 years ago maybe
Objectification: “How was the technology displayed in your house, what did it mean to have the TV there?”
Both people had the TV displayed in the living room for convenience and entertainment.
TV in fridge and TV in bathroom
Conversion: “Use technology to see what we like and what the world is like and my view was how the technology and things we see every day are so relevant that it makes us normal to us because its shared and used by so many people”
The technology we use is so relevant to use because it has been a part of our life from the beginning much unlike older folks who have gone through the transition of very limited technology to modern day technology with all different gadgets and products that were not even invented when they were a kid. This can be described as the technological revolution.
Choose one way in which the way of communication and mediated communication has occurred while you have been there.
Example 911 and I went to a festival this summer but due to weather they had to announce the cancellation, this was broadcast on social media to target and reach a mass audience.
Reception contexts and media rituals looks at the audience as being an active audience and due to the accessibility and availability of technology today which make involvement as an audience much easier. Moreover, an example in my life where as an audience I would be subject to reception contexts and media rituals is throughout my daily routine, using my laptop and checking my phone.
This picture portrays how technology has become so involved in our daily routine and in our personal lives. People use technology everywhere they go, even if they realize it or not.
