I think despite her rivalry with East High, Lily actually does have some feelings for Ricky like I don’t think it’s full blown fixation but I think the feelings are there wither she admits it or not, her last conversation with him about her family seemed genuine even if there was malice intention behind it.

This is the reason I hate the decision to make her a child of divorce. Because then people feel like they can “relate to each other” as characters” and start shipping it when she’s been nothing but heinous and abrasive and manipulative. One weird phone call does not a complex character make, and even after their talk, she still stole that harness.

I’m open to her growth but for now? Keep Ricky away from this girl. He shouldn’t be seeing “good stuff” about her. Not yet .

But also... wasn’t this also Gina to some extent in Season 1??  I don’t mean that as Gina slander because I think she’s a completely different person now, but I really don’t understand how people SHIPPED her with Ricky based on their “connection” in season one that was basically her manipulating him as a pawn in her quest to make Nini quit the show or her “let me guess”ing all of Ricky’s problems until he lets down his guard. Except for us having less insight into Lily’s (possible) good side, I think she and Gina are parallels, so why do so many people ship Ricky with Gina but gag at the thought of Ricky and Lily?

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but: 

Ricky wasn’t staring off into space in Big Red’s basement because he heard EJ might like Gina and he was jealous/realizing he liked her too. He was staring off into space because EJ said the best thing he ever did for Nini was “let her go” and Ricky was planning on singing his song for her (ironically all about letting go) and realized that’s the opposite of “letting her go” he needs to give her actual space if they are going to truly move on.

I feel like I just need to point out the granola bar was a small gesture but the entire point of it was because Gina was asking for one in the beginning of the episode and was upset she forgot it.

EJ brought her what she wanted/needed without her even having to ask, he just knew, symbolizing their relationship on a greater scale. It wasn’t just a snack, it was specifically a granola bar. It was her sign — the one she’s been waiting for — combined with the fact she posted she was Ubering home secretly hoping someone would show up for her and they did.

Seen a lot of arguments that the granola bar thing is stupid to pay attention to because it was such a small thing (opposed to him bringing her flowers, candy, a stuffed bear, etc) but it was about knowing what she needed. And was in direct juxtaposition to when she wanted something for Valentines Day, vocalized it, and still didn’t get it from the boy she liked.

Ship and let ship. Always. But, the attention to the depth and care this show puts into its characters and relationships is very intentional and that’s important to recognize because it’s respecting the intricacies of the story and the effort put in by the people who write it.

I don't know how anyone can think that is insignificant. I actually thought it was almost TOO on the nose that it felt a little forced (I don't care though because I love them and the whole exchange was so adorable). But to pretend it doesn't mean anything is a rreeeeeeach.

If you wanted any more proof that Ricky and Nini regress each other’s characters, you got it in ep 9. Ricky literally says that he’s a different person than he was a week ago (before Gina left) and that Nini turns him to his “old” self. This..isn’t a good thing. Neither of them are growing individually because they’re both so used to being in love with each other. Ricky’s put off that Gina’s back because he basically pushed her completely out of the picture once he realized she was never coming back, and instead went right back to Nini with Gina gone and not confusing his feelings. Now, in the span of 2 episodes, he’s suddenly madly in love with Nini again, when prior to this (and through his scenes with Gina) he hadn’t even THOUGHT about Nini, and now he’s right back to square one, acting EXACTLY as he did in episode 1.

getting to meet his son and grow old with him and annie

eventually having another child

inviting everlark and haymitch to district 4 because katniss’s mom works there (and because he would miss them of course)

lowkey looking after katniss’s mom

keeping in touch with johanna and not letting her go through all of her trauma alone

inviting johanna over so she’s like aunt johanna to his children

finnick pushes johanna to ask cressida out because we all know they’re lesbians

he loves annie every second of every day, he feels so lucky to have her

he would organize days by the beach with his family, teach his children how to swim and fish

he wouldn’t tell them about the games though

he’s a very goofy dad, but loves his children fiercely and would do anything for them and annie

eventually katniss becomes aunt katniss and the boys become uncle haymitch and uncle peeta

katniss and finnick become each other’s confidants and best friends because they understand each other perfectly

finnick would see how annie and peeta become really close too, one of the reasons why being the shared trauma that they went through in the capitol

finnick reverting to his old, happy self

he tells really bad jokes

katniss and johanna roll their eyes every time that happens

haymitch, peeta and annie laugh

all of them meeting in district 4 more and more often because they have become each other’s family

finnick and annie visit district 12 a couple of times a year but it’s still destroyed so they’d rather meet in 4

they have a house in district’s 12 victor’s village though, and same goes for everlark, haymitch and johanna in district 4 (no one lives there anymore except the victors so)

finnick and katniss would go hunting

annie and peeta bake because they’re soft

haymitch looks after the children and doesn’t drink anymore because he’s finally sober

eventually katniss would open up to finnick about her sister and father and finnick would open up to her about all of the people he lost

literally WHO is gale

surprise surprise, everlark has their first child

and finnick’s son is a teenager now

if odesta had another child they’d probably be a teenager too

odesta’s children become the older siblings, they take care of everlark’s child

finnick becomes uncle finnick and annie becomes aunt annie

everlark has their second child

he teaches everlark’s children how to swim too

he jokes around with them a lot, he’s literally the fun, laidback uncle

he often carries peeta bridal-style because of his leg to amuse everyone

veeeery cocky around all of the children

everlark’s children admire him but his children just sigh because... why is he like this

they love seeing him happy though, after studying the games at school they know that their parents deserve all of the happiness in the world

finnick has the best relationship with his children

also, he ages like fine wine

cressida and johanna get married

literal best found family, they would have outsold

regular holidays with all of them together as a family? amazing

miss everdeen would attend too

at first it was hard for everyone because they lost so many people they cared about but they moved on little by little

Why are you Team Paxton? Asking because I've seen some post saying that the only reason why people shipped Devi with him is because of his attractiveness which is ridiculous. I mean I know it is a factor for some people but I'm sure it can not be the only reason right?

Hi! Sorry this took a minute, I wanted to be at a computer to write out my thoughts. 

Obviously the character who plays Paxton is attractive, and i’m sure if I were 15, that would draw me to him as far as wanting him to be with Devi. Fortunately, i’m past that age, so hopefully I can offer some other insight. 

First of all, I don’t hate Ben. I think that the enemies to lovers trope is fun and cute, and things he did for Devi were very kind and sweet--i’m a sucker for a guy who brings in the friends-squad when the female protagonist is hurting (that shit is so cute!). But, Ben shouldn’t get Devi just because he was nice to her. That’s not very compelling storytelling for me. 

And while I also did gain a bit of empathy and understanding for him in his Zeppo episode, I felt that the tone was a little deaf? The privilege he has is just absolutely wild, and although neglectful parents is a terrible thing, they do seem to really love him and care about him? So his biggest issue is really that he has to sit curbside at NBA games without his family. They just went a little too hard on the white boy tears, there. 

I also felt like Ben just had too fast of a turn around? I would have preferred if they slowed down that enemies to friends to lovers arc a little, and it didn’t go from 0 to 100 in a single episode or so. I know that in todays climate, you never know if you’re getting a second season but, this is Mindy Kaling so...she’s getting a second season. 

So far i’ve only really told you why I’m NOT big on Team Ben, but not really WHY i’m Team Paxton, so! 

Basically, I just think there’s a lot more they could do with that dynamic, and I find Paxton’s life and character in general much more interesting. I like the whole “popular guy grows up because he realizes how dope the girl is and what a catch he’s letting go” thing. Maybe that’s because i’m a 90′s baby and “She’s All That” was my life back in the day, i’m not sure. 

Not that Devi has to fix Paxton, and that’s not to say Paxton hasn’t been a bit of a jerk when it comes to the whole “i’m cool, you’re not” thing, but I actually do believe he’s been there when it matters--each time she was publicly humiliated Paxton was there for her, cool points deducted or not. And while he was NOT there for her when the whole thing with her mom went down, she never told him about that, so how was he supposed to know? And the times he's gotten mad at her, were honestly pretty legitimate. She spread a rumor about them sleeping together to use him for his name (or so he thought), she basically let her mom rail on him outside of their house, etc (even if he doesn’t blame her for that one, I understand why he wanted to distance himself, don’t you?). And while he used the “see i’m cool, and she isn’t” thing when explaining it to Rebecca, it feels like a total cover up to me--he’s scared to be with someone who challenges him, intellectually and otherwise, who isn't afraid to be exactly who she is and let the world see it--because that’s who Devi is, at her core. 

Plus they really became friends a long the way, you know? Sure, she always had a crush on him, but the story really took it’s time with that dynamic, and they formed this solid friendship without even realizing it. I love that for them. 

I also just think his heritage would be really interesting to dive into and I love Rebecca and love the potential of friendship between her and Devi. Plus the chemistry between Devi and Paxton just feels more palpable to me--not sure if that’s purposeful or not. 

I’d really love to get a Paxton POV in Season 2, because I think it would be fascinating to see how this all went down from his perspective, and you just know there’s a ton going on in that mind that we don’t know. 

So there it is, Anon. Hopefully i’ve given you something to think about, but remember-Team Anything You Want! Always!

Tips That Can Save Your Kid’s Life.

THIS IS IMPORTANT 

When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now). 

I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes. 

Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that. 

Two incidents, one as a young child, one years later as a teen. Don’t discredit this stuff, it fucking works. My brother used it a few times too. Let your child pick the word and no never, ever, ever, ever get mad at them for using it no matter what it is.
