People love to trash Republicans for not believing in climate change, but then they turn around and convince themselves that individual actions won't make a difference. Stop. Understanding the science and then still choosing to do nothing about it is worse. Stop spouting off that pseudo-intellectual stat about "100 companies" blah blah blah. Those companies are causing damage with your money to create products you consume. Connect the dots. Take responsibility. Individual change won't fix everything but it's a lot better than pretending it isn't your problem.

I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could âWinâ at them.â

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates what cows cannot eat, and the full list, which is here, includes these highlights: âunborn calf carcasses,â âdehydrated garbage,â and âfleshings hydrolysate.â Youâre also not allowed to feed cattle the meat and meat byproducts from cows and other mammals, though there are some notable exceptions: blood products, milk products, and gelatin from mammals are okay, as are pig and horse meat. Non-mammal protein sourcesâfrom fish, poultry, and veggies â are all okay, too.
I mentioned livestock being fed candy and other industrial farm waste recently and some people think this is just âvegan propagandaâ so... The truth is really much more outlandish than whatever vegans could make up.
Feeding livestock animals the by-products and waste litter from other animals in the industry has caused the majority of zoonotic diseases and pandemics in the last 50 years (73% of pathogens!) By feeding these animals the literal feces, blood, cartilage, and feathers of other animals, this causes an excellent vector-transmission of pathogens to jump species and mutate. This is how Mad Cow Disease / Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis, Swine Flu, H1N1, Avian Flu developed.
Animal agriculture does not only harm the humans living in proximity to their facilities through air and water pollutants, but everyone else via entirely preventable diseases.
