December was an expensive month with Christmas and gatherings. Jan hasn't started off cheap either but I will make up for the extra expenses later in the year. I still use physical cash in Hong Kong since alot of costs require the transfer of money or either purchased with it. I've just found out I can pay my rent with the creditcard.The more I use the credit card the more points I get which I use to help pay off the monthly payment. I never go over the credit card payment and have it automatically pay itself off. As you can see my savings rate has reduced drastically and that's due to a contract change and the fact I'm not flying as much as I should be since the end of 2019. Only way I can increase the savings rate is through increasing my income at the moment or starving.... Deep Dive into Micro/Robo investing Platform Raiz, this platform allows you to invest small amounts up from $5 into one of the 10 different portfolios with a minimum account fee of $3.50 a month if the holding is under $15K. If you have the Sapphire or a custom portfolio then it's $4.50 a month. Depending on the amount investing this isn't an expensive investing option and the portfolios have a various amount of options depending on your risk appetite. Personally I think Raiz is perfect for someone starting out who isn't the best with budgeting or saving. The reason is their auto investment option which invests weekly or monthly and the 'Round Up' feature. Round Up allows you to invest small amounts set by you when you make a purchase with a debt card. For instance you purchase a coffee for $3.50 then it will round up to $5 dollars and invest $1.50 into your portfolio of choice. Another excellent feature of Raiz is their rewards system. Specially during Christmas I'd prefer to use Raiz compared to Shopback to get more money back and invested into my portfolio. Nothing comes easily or quicky which I often forget. I end up getting frustrated with where I'm at with investing and generating passive income. I bought some shares in a Hong Kong tracker fund. HK2800, it's a fund that tracks the Heng Seng maintaining 60 of the largest companies in the exchange. I'm based in HK so have the ability to buy shares through a brokerage. The best thing is HK doesn't have capital gains tax, let's hope they go up soon!
