yep..that’s a baby (Jeanie/Kurt)
Kurt blithely gasped. “Aren’t they?!” His fingers laced together in front of his waist and wiggled, arms stick straight as Kurt preened. Kicking one foot up, his hips and shoulders jutted to the right as he peered down at the polished black leather. She had great taste! Tossing his head back, Kurt stared into the sky with an drawn out sigh. “I know what you mean by all systems go. I’ve been going non-stop since I hit the pavement. I love it though,” lowering his chin back down, Kurt contentedly smiled towards Jeanie. “It’s what I came here to for. So no complaints from me.”
“Glad you liked it,” Kurt laughed, “That’s what we are. I don’t care as long as I get to be a part of the best city on the planet.” Nearing the cafe, Kurt stooped just short of a group of tourists not wanting to budge and inch from their photo op blocking the steps. A Seriously?? I’m walking with a pregnant woman. Move! glare caused a few of them to stop and get out of the way. Kurt mumbled a thanks he didn’t mean then held the door open leading her inside. Still the best city though!
“Illinois? Plan on sticking around for a while,” he asked curiously. “It helps when you have people. I’d be lost without my best friend Rachel. My boyfriend had to stay in Ohio for another school year. I miss him every second. Let’s get a table, check out the menu and I’ll go order for us both?” There were plenty of open tables since it was past the lunch rush and not quite dinner. Kurt gestured for her to pick one she liked and waited to follow.
“Oh I do too, love it, I mean. When you’re doing things you enjoy - even if there are a lot of those things, then you can’t really dislike it,” Jeanie mused. Sure things were going pretty fast right now, and sure it might get a little difficult to keep up with everything, but with her friends she knew that if it ever became an issue, they would find a way around it. And that’s why she loved her friends like family. There was rarely time for struggles in such a loving group.
Though she wasn’t sure that New York was the best place in the world. She hadn’t really travelled enough to make that assumption, and she thought that the world as a whole was beautiful, ranking cities seemed odd to Jeanie, especially since she saw positives and negatives wherever she was. Still, she loved the boy’s enthusiasm. He was young, and clearly loved being here. She knew what it was like to see the city through young, fresh eyes - Jeanie herself still managed to see things like that every now and again - and she adored the enthusiasm. Noticing Kurt’s glare, she stifled a chuckle and playfully hit his arm. “They would have moved in their own time,” she nodded pointedly.
“Yes, well I’ve set up home here,” she smiled with a nod. “Got myself a little family, not in the traditional sense, but - well, soon to be in the traditional sense I suppose,” she laughed, a hand resting on her stomach as she briefly glanced down at the bump. “Oh? That’s a shame, do you get to see each other often? Or just talk? You have all kinds of ways of doing that now, it’s excellent.” Looking around her, Jeanie chose a seat nearest to the window, having always enjoyed sitting and watching the world around her.
yep..that’s a baby (Jeanie/Kurt)
“Thanks for the company,“ Kurt simpered, "I’m starving to the point where I could eat one of my shoes and I love these shoes. ” They were in the Village and he’d been drug around with Rachel enough to know almost every vegan, vegetarian, barely touched, non-processed restaurant within a short distance of the stores he drug her to. Sometimes making sure to back up a dozen or more within one trip. Just to get back at her for ruining any hopes of his just wanting to grab something and stuff his face so they could continue on with their day instead of snubbing perfectly fine menus because they didn’t clearly label they might carry something that would totally ruin her vocal chords because of some unknown voodoo priest capabilities inside..say..a piece of lunchmeat. Kurt may be over-exaggerating and totally clumping Jeanie into full-hippy-extreme dietary restrictions without even asking but..she was carrying a baby and Kurt might not know terribly much about that process. One thing was certain? He wasn’t going to feed a baby McDonalds or street hot dogs. Oh God. Rachel’s rubbing off. Someone get me into an intervention! Leading her down the sidewalk towards the coffeeshop/deli, Kurt took extra care walk at whatever pace Jeanie decided to keep. Time to wing small talk! “I just moved here officially not too long ago. From Ohio. A tiny town that isn’t even the size of one borough here. I love it. Are you from here or a transplant like me?”
Jeanie laughed and shook her head before giving the shoes a glance, “Well they are lovely shoes. We certainly can’t have you eating them,” she joked in response with a grin. “And the company thing, totally my pleasure. You have no idea how crazy busy I’ve been, it’s all systems go for...well, everything at the moment apparently.” Doctor’s appointments, protests, be-ins. Schedules that had she not been pregnant for, Jeanie would have coped with fine, happily even, but now felt just a little tiring for her - though that wasn’t to say she didn’t enjoy what she did. The protests and be-ins more than the doctor’s appointments of course. She was taking those on her parent’s wishes more than anything, but was happy to do anything for her child, no matter how time consuming.
- Or no matter how it affected her beliefs, apparently. Not all of the tribe were vegan or vegetarian of course, but Jeanie had been a proud vegan for twelve years prior to getting knocked up. She was still a vegetarian, but nothing at all helped pregnancy cravings like chocolate did. She walked, not too slowly beside Kurt. Jeanie was proud of how she was handling her pregnancy without letting it become much of an issue - not right now anyway, who knew how the next few months would pan out? But for now, it wasn’t limiting her much at all.
“Transplant, I like that. Yeah, I’m a transplant. From Illinois. I love New York though, it’s crazy the amount of people who are here, and the size of it all! I was terrified at first, but it’s like home now. Though that’s the people more than anything else.”

“I bet it’s sort of hard to forget you have a person inside you. Just trips me out thinking about it,” he nearly sung. Most definitely, it tripped him out. To think that there was a living human being crawling around anywhere in you was not just a miraculous thing to consider? Could be straight up Alien-esque if you dug under the nicer layers and gave it food for thought. Not that Kurt was going to say that out loud persay but the longer he eyeballed her swollen belly, the more images he could drum up in his head and not all of them were fluffy good times either. Yep! Moving on! And, hey, was he doing good keeping up with her tone of voice or what? Dare he say? He might even be impressed with himself! Check him out! He was being Bohemian! Rocking slightly from side to side with a pair of sparkly eyes as he mused over a mixture of the beautiful and a head popping out of her chest any minute, Kurt almost forgot his hand was waiting for her to take. When she did, he gently cupped her hand and gave it a warm shake then let go laughing happily at how sweet it was of her to say it was awesome to meet him. Every bit of sincerity and fascination in her voice backed Jeanie up and it was adorable to see her so thrilled to meet someone who was just..him. “Jeanie. Pretty name. I like it,” Kurt’s mouth hung open as he debated something for a few beats then deciding what the hell, he jutted his thumb out past his shoulder. “I..I was just going to go get coffee and maybe something to munch on. Do you want to come along. Or are you and…” The stomach monster.. No, that was inappropriate. “The baby busy?”
“Tell me about it. It’s weird as hell,” Jeanie laughed wide-eyed. “I just think of it as a baby not a...tiny human. It makes things a little easier.” Not physically of course. Physically her back ached and her ankles were just beginning to swell with the sheer weight she was carrying around with her, but she still thought it was beautiful. Even if the father was a crazy speed freak and not the man she was in love with. Those were just details right now. Anyway, if the thought of it was tripping him out, just think of the late-night, pot induced talks she’s had about the miniature human living inside her. Those were truly wonderful - and oh so entertaining - to listen to. Still, his use of the phrase made her laugh. Give him some beads and longer hair and he’d fit right in with the rest of the tribe. Maybe.
“Oh thank you. That’s so nice of you to say.” She tilted her head in thought at the invitation. It was very sweet of him to ask, especially given that she had to be a good few years older and extremely pregnant, she could only assume that she was not his usual type of company, but she certainly could use a bite to eat, and he was adorably charming. Her maternal instincts were already beginning to kick in, though that was hardly new. surrounded by young people in the tribe, she had already been like a mother figure to them for a while now. “I’d love to, I mean, I don’t drink coffee but the food part definitely. Me and the baby can make time for it. I have nowhere I need to be right now.” In fact she was under special instruction to be resting as the rest of her friends prepared for the be-in taking place later.

“It is. But life is good for good people. That thought alone gives me at least a little hope that things will get better.”
“And they will, honey. But you shouldn’t have to worry about that. You should be enjoying life at your age!”
yep..that’s a baby (Jeanie/Kurt)
Kurt’s hand lingered on Jeanie’s belly long enough after her hand lifted for another hiccup of a chuckle. She was right. It was crazy. A bluish green stare lingered on her stomach as he scratched the back of his head and nodded. “Yeah, it really is.” You could say his personal experience with pregnant women other than, say Quinn, a random teacher or two, or a relative Kurt wasn’t close enough with to really make it memorable, was a wee bit limited. Much less the whole random stranger ‘touch my stomach’ that was lumped in with it. Feeling his face hot from the blush that managed to spread up to his forehead by the time he pulled his hand away, he focused on a few breaths through his nose and tried not to get more embarrassed by his doe-eyed reaction he had up til about two seconds ago and start an endless cycle of pale ivory to blazing red to pale multi-color skin chameleon predicament he couldn’t escape. Still…his hand had the echo of the kick against it and it made the smile unable to leave his face. “I can’t even imagine what it’d be like for you to feel that every day. Wild, I bet. Oh,” perking up, he bowed in a half curtsie-half bend at the waist. “I’m Kurt and you are?” He’d already had his hand pulled in and plopped on her belly..he should at least introduce himself now, huh? Was that proper etiquette? Or were they past that?
“Oh it is. It’s like the little thing wants to constantly remind me that it’s in there,” she joked, glancing down at the bump with a soft smile. Her eyes were brought back up by Kurt’s bow-curtsie which Jeanie found pretty adorable, that and the blush on his face too. She had a habit of occasionally forgetting that not every -one was like her and her friends in their candidness, and that most people would likely be a little shocked by her insistence that they feel the stomach of a stranger. Still, Kurt was coping with it well, if a little shyly, which was a lovely sight. In her mind etiquette was something else. She happily left it as being nice, but not worrying about anything beyond that, and certainly not worrying about the ‘proper’ way things should be done. As he introduced himself, she grinned, holding out a hand to shake.
“Jeanie. It’s awesome to meet you Kurt.” And she meant it. Though it was unlikely that anyone would question that. Her tone of voice contained so much awe that whatever she was talking about sounded as if it truly was t h e most amazing thing to her.

“It’s okay. I still have hope that there a more nice people in the world than not-nice people…I’ll try and remember that, thanks.”
“Yeah, I think there are. That’s a great way to think. It’s a shame more people don’t see things the same way you do.”
[ Claude was the only person in the tribe to see Jeanie cry. Until news reached them that he had died. Then they all saw her... ]
“I think it’s important to be polite. I’ve met a lot of impolite people myself… And thank you. I don’t do much to it. ”
“You have? Already? That’s no good. And that’s the best way - natural. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, baby.”
