literally drinking a beer by the lake and still opened tumblr. some of us are beyond saving
some of you people are so annoying. i mean me too but good lord
That last post made me remember when I watched Conclave and was like huh what a poignant movie about how misogyny hides in plain sight and goes unchecked even when other forms of oppression don't! And then everyone I spoke to and everyone saw online discussing it was like "it's not a hard movie to understand, I can't see why others call it confusing. It's very clearly about how no human can embody the ideal upheld by religion and those who come the closest to do so might not be who we expect" like no. The movie is about misogyny in the Catholic Church. The final scene of the film has the main character (who himself said he would not lift the woman issue of the church if he ran for pope whilst still posturing himself as a progressive) looking into the closed courtyard as two young nuns hush their whispering voices even as they're alone, all while wrecked by his conflicting feelings because the pope candidate he voted for has a uterus aka the one organ that has always been at the forefront of anti-feminist arguments historically, especially when it came to banning women from positions of power. This is also the movie that repeatedly centers the shot of a caged bird inside the head nun's office. It's not subtle. But I guess it's on point that no one noticed the sexism hidden in plain sight in the sexism is hidden in plain sight movie
the average person with bad taste can be into some extremely banal garbage but when you get close enough to someone with otherwise good taste that they start a recommendation by going off on a preamble about how they don't necessarily recommend it you know you're seconds away from hearing about some real torturously wretched dogshit
friend from work will have you watch a two hour movie where you can feel every second as it passes by, but enemployed movie mutual will put you on the kind of shit that feels like crawling on cobblestone until emaciated
people are reading this as the latter friend recommending dry, pretentious cinema. that's not the case. not that kind of situation. you're getting no enrichment out of this. I need you to understand they're making you watch Gooby because "it's kinda good"
Not to insert myself here but as someone who owns Ghost Rider 1 and 2 on DVD I do actually need everyone to watch it right now because in the second one a kid asks Nick Cage as Ghost Rider how he pees and Nick Cage says “it’s like a flamethrower” and then they hard cut to a CGI skeleton in full black moto leather pissing a jet of fire and then it does a shoulder check at the camera and nods like “hell yeah brother”
Fully derailing this post because I found a gif
in Westeros, you're not allowed to be the eldest son with a facecard they immediately end you
whats that kink called that you get from reading too much fantasy lit as a child that makes you want to be tortured in front of someone who loves you so you can see the pleading desperation in their eyes and hear how much they love you in between the cracks of their voice and really truly believe they would do anything to save you. also you get to look so cool and brave and covered in blood and soooo able to withstand pain haha no just me? ok

i love talkative cats like yeah meow meow meow you're so real bro
You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.
God this makes me think of this screenshot:
"it minimizes you as a person" really wraps up my entire discomfort with the whole "oh but i'm just a girl" thing when used in most situations.
