@strangezeroz welcome to tumblr where the app decides when you can be gifted with the sight of og memes, you cannot look for these yourself via the search engine, you wonât find them, you have to wait to be gifted them
For those of you who might be new here, Tumblr has no algorithm, legendary memes are brought to your dash by mutuals like pet cats bringing you dead birds.

I feel like people misunderstand the title of Mo Dao Zu Shi, or of what Wei Wuxian does as âdemonic cultivationâ (mo dao). Itâs not. It is, however, what most people in canon THINK heâs doing
Mo dao messes with the cycle of reincarnation, which is why the Yiling Patriarch becomes so reviled. The term mo dao is actually used only ONCE in the novel - when Wei Wuxian notes that people called him âthe grandmaster of demonic cultivationâ
It uses living humans, extracts qi out of them, and involves the destruction of golden cores, brainwashing, and effectively vampiring living beings for the sake of power. It doesnât use ambient resentment, it creates it by harming others.
The reason weâre continuously told (by people who know nothing of Wei Wuxianâs path) that heâs at risk of going insane is because thatâs what mo dao does. It warps the mind and body because the source of resentment is within the user
Wei Wuxian calls his cultivation âthe ghostly pathâ or âghost cultivationâ (gui dao). Hell, the only other person shown to match his expertise on the subject - Xue Yang - also calls it gui dao. Xue Yang !! Heâd be delighted to call his actions demonic !! If heâs insisting on calling it âghostlyâ, then that tells us that the difference matters
So what is gui dao ? First of all, we know that it doesnât mind-control people as a baseline - thatâs why Wei Wuxian ended up dying the first go around. We know that it utilises pre-existing resentful energy in the world to direct the dead
We know, also, that it requires a certain level of understanding of the dead. One of the spells Wei Wuxian creates is literally named Empathy.
We know that the power source is usually external (the Burial Mounds, the Stygian Tiger Seal), and that it, most importantly, doesnât create demons. It creates ghosts and fierce corpses. And because of this, it likely doesnât prevent reincarnation.
Why is the distinction important ? Because the former is what mo dao does. It creates mo.
Weâre told the difference - very intentionally - in one of the earliest parts of the story, when Lan Qiren asks Wei Wuxian the difference between gui (ghosts) and mo (demons) and yao, and gets the correct answer
Thereâs foreshadowing littered all across the earlier chapters, actually. I might make a post on that some day
the way trump is talking abt hillary makes him sound like a scorned lover lmao what if monica wasnât billâs only side bitch??
you gotta be fucking kidding me
in my head the star wars equivalent of tswift is some human woman named tayâlor spiff or something and her stans are losing their minds over theories that sheâs secretly a jedi singing about the horrors of war, even though sheâs from a neutral system that hasnât seen so much as a moral panic in 50 years
the theories get even more egregious during the imperial era, with people straight up thinking she joined the rebellion in secret and is loading her songs with subliminal rebel propaganda. their main piece of evidence for this is if you play a certain song backwards, it sounds like sheâs saying âfreedomâ in shyriiwook. the fans get really defensive if you point out sheâs performed at the yearly empire day celebration thrice now and her family historically owned ewok slaves
i regret to inform both you beautiful people that this isnât going to go how you think it will
spiff fans (also known as âspiffiesâ) insist that the two decommissioned venator-class destroyers spiff purchased, the bad blood and the reputation, are for diplomatic purposes that benefit the rebellion. jediâlors have concocted theories that she served on both ships during the clone wars and was respectful of every clone that served there, despite her courtship of a gravball player that thrice advocated against the clone veterans being granted natural citizenship

all goofing aside I don't understand the urge to reimagine Tay'lor Allisoarn Spiff as a secret Jedi fighting for the rebellion when the rebel alliance is literally like overflowing with women fighting the empire. Gara and Ke'Cha and Mileu and Halcey are right there. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't like Taylor but why would you hang all your hopes of taking down the empire on her

btw to just clarify for anyone who sees this reblog of this post
op is basically saying something along the lines of "yea ik tay'lor spiff is a jedi but like. why is she y'all's only force using rebel icon when there are all these other force users in the rebellion???"
i might have worded this badly but hopefully i got the main point across

By the way, pakhnokh, the famous MDZS fanartist who has presence on Twitter as well as Tumblr, has been outed as an Israeli Zionist and has been crashing out on Twitter over people calling her out.
Around 10 years ago she was overtly Zionist on dA, which... It was 10 years ago. So she's been trying this angle where she declares she's 'changed':
But the important thing is that, before she privated her likes, she was liking IOF propaganda following Oct 7th:
She wrote a huge wall of tweets before her apology that I showed above, and deleted them. I curse myself for not saving any of those tweets, but it does turn out that if a tweet is deleted, it doesn't delete the discord preview of the tweet, so I screenshotted from when I and a friend were discussing some of the tweets(one my friend did screenshot):
The reason she deleted them is because she TRIED to do the "I changed" angle, but then pivoted to complaining that she didn't understand what was wrong with the liked tweets as she believed them to be facts, believed 'Westerners' have a fantasy idea of the "conflict"(never used the word genocide), & complained at length about her personal run-ins with Palestinian freedom fighting.
This included her saying she 'almost died' because she was at an event, left, and 5 minutes or so later there was a suicide bombing there.
Never in those tweets does it cross her mind why some Palestinians may use violence as a last resort and what the reasoning for that violence is. She goes on to complain about people cancelling others over "minor issues," says that this is Westerners "feeling like they're doing something," and then says that "no one has talked more about the Israeli-Palestine conflict online than I did" despite her having been silent due to being a closeted Zionist.
This is a person with a large platform, but I haven't seen much talk on Tumblr about her (though I try to keep the MXTX fandom at arm's length because of usual, far less heinous fandom crazies, so maybe it's just me) so I want to make who she is ABUNDANTLY clear.
Block this person. Cancel your Patreon subscription. Her art is not worth it. Whatever AU she has where WWX gives up fighting against genocide and the Wens get corralled and kept under watch of the Lans is directly in line with her Zionist beliefs. Do not believe her bullshit about how she's 'changed.' She has not. She made it clear with that wall of tweets she deleted. She doesn't give a fuck about Palestinians and wanted a fucking pat on the back for bragging about how she made art of a Hamas soldier and an IOF soldier flirting and kissing. She is nothing but a fucking Zionist.
And despite horrible fucking people like herself, from river to sea, Palestine WILL be free. And just like apartheid South Africa, Palestinian children of any ethnicity and religion will one day play and laugh on the land that was once a horrible ethnostate theocracy that kept starving children in ghettos, refused to recognize interreligious marriage, stole and bulldozed homes to give to illegal settlers, and declared water is not a human right.
Part of the reason the needle has shifted and why Palestine is talked about more and more and why politicians even in the US are growing in their support of Palestine is BECAUSE us talking and speaking up and refusing to allow Zionists in polite society is slowly but surely moving the needle.
DO NOT turn a blind eye to Zionism any more than you would turn a blind eye to Nazism. It's what they want. Do not give them what they want.
Well, thats a very shitty behavior
You can try and hide it all you want but the truth WILL eventually come out.
It's baffling how you can be a fan of a series that is very strongly anti-genocide, with the main fucking character taking a stand against genocide and the gentry supporting it.
Like, did you read the series with your ass??

MDZS HS au but uh western take? LOL Wei Ying was suspended from playing for the Yunmeng Jiangs HS football team, so he decided to cheerlead for shits & giggles to distract the enemy team (courtesy of Nie Huaisang) it was very effective
can I ask you what exactly you think of wei wuxian using the reanimated corpses of wen ancestors/ recently killed wen casualties against the wen.its genuinely, by definition, a war crime
Sorry to burst your bubble, but âwar crimesââa modern concept that was actually created in reality and therefore exists with the basic premise of âdead people do not come back to lifeâ in mindâdoes not cover a man digging up corpses to pad his corpse army against a genocidal entity lmao. You know what is a war crime, though? Mass murder and mistreating prisoners of war. With that said, Wei Wuxian has my stamp of approval đđœ
I don't go here, I'm just in tears over this anon smugly bringing out their gotcha about how necromancy involving the deceased relatives of your enemies is a very real war crime that the UN is watching for and ready to crack down upon if necessary. I'm fascinated by the thought process that led to this message being sent. What on fucking earth.
I would argue that we should think about war crimes in the context of what was appropriate/agreed upon rules of that time. Wiping out an entire sect of cultivators who had rebelled against the others is not (in this very specific setting) considered something wrong for a state to do (now we can still call these actions morally wrong, but that doesn't mean that they are war crimes as they are not violating the general terms of combat and how to handle a defeated enemy.)
On the flip side, Wei Wuxian's stuff is very much a direct violation of the agreed upon rules of combat. Demonic cultivation/using resentment in such a way/making ghost puppets/etc are all major departures and violations of what is acceptable to do.
So yeah, they didn't have the Geneva Convention then so we can't define "war crime" based on what it says there. But they very much had a conception of what war crimes are that very much accounted for things that WWX did. (and also don't consider the actions of the other sects to be that bad in that sense)
Cool, then based on the story, you would still be wrong because 1) Wei Wuxian isnât a demonic cultivator, 2) there were no âagreed upon rulesâ that cultivators canât use resentful energy in war, given the fact that the Nie put together the war effort and everyone praised Wei Wuxian for his contributions at the time, and 3) wiping out an entire CLAN (not sect, clan) of cultivators os absolutely a âwar crimeâ based on your definition because the other clans did, in fact, agree to leave the rest of the Wen remnants alone after the war. So rather than relying on âagreed uponâ rules of engagement that are only âagreed uponâ by the people who break them, themselves (like the Jin who persecute Wei Wuxian for using the yin tiger tally, only to take the remnants for themselves to rebuild it with Xue Yang to absolutely no oneâs objection), we should rely on what we consider morally right. I think itâs morally correct for Wei Wuxian to build an army out of his enemiesâs corpses to defend himself and other oppressed peoples from the threat of annihilation.
You know what? you're right. it's been a couple years since I last dipped into all of this so I definitely forgot some of the info! I did at least have the understanding that wwx's actions were considered more of a violation of what is appropriate then what the other clans did outwardly (obvs there is corruption and bad stuff going on internally), which is why he might seem to be more of a war criminal in that sense, even though he's certainly doing the better moral thing.
I do think morally right is a better metric (and that there was a lot of hypocrisy in play) then trying to figure out who is a war criminal or not.
Ah, ok. Wei Wuxianâs actions still werenât a violation of anything, though, because the cultivation world was not upset at him for using his cultivation. They were upset that he wouldnât acquiesce under duress to giving them his inventions, because they saw his refusal (and his subsequent popularity amongst unaffiliated cultivators) as a threat to their positions as established cultivation clans. They were worried that he would take his skills to start his own cultivation clan, and theirs would decline as a result. It did not make it better that the one who theyâd owe their future irrelevance to was the âson of a servantâ while they were gentry with famous heroes in their lineage.
Any subsequent slandering of Wei Wuxianâs ghost path or his contributions during the war are a direct result of his refusal to bend to the authority of his âbettersâ by humbling himself for their comfort.
Look don't test me I'll block and turn off reblogs with a hair trigger if you all can't be normal about this but I do feel like it needs to be said that "do you think abortion should be allowed if the mother's reason for wanting it isâ" the only acceptable answer to that question is Yes no matter what the end of that sentence is going to be. I do not care if someone wants an abortion for selfish reasons or bigoted reasons or cruel reasons or any other hypothetical strawman you can think of, there is no circumstance where someone should be denied the right to opt out of a forced pregnancy and birth. First of all, who's in charge of interrogating everyone seeking an abortion to make sure they're doing it for reasons Pure Of Heart? Second, why do you think Forced Birth is an appropriate punishment to inflict on anyone? If your answer to "should abortion be allowed when the motivation isâ" is anything but an unequivocal "yes, and I don't care about the motivation" then you are not pro-choice
Yep, as a disability justice person I sometimes encounter resistance to this principle from people who are concerned about abortion being used for ableist reasons.
"Do you really think a pregnant person should be able to abort a fetus just for having Down's Syndrome?" people ask. Or just for having some genetic markers for Autism?
And my answer to that, always, is I don't think a child should be forced to be born to a parent that does not want them. And I don't believe a parent should be forced to give birth to a child they are not prepared for and do not want.
Is it ableist for a pregnant person to not want a disabled child? Sure, but I find myself far less interested in the purity or impurity of the pregnant person's morals than I am in the fact that disabled people and their families are provided almost no resources in society and are excluded for nearly every area of public life. There are many reasons why a parent might not want to give birth to a disabled child, or feel unprepared to raise them, that go far beyond that parent's own personal prejudices. And even those prejudices are informed by economic, legal, and social structures that make it very difficult, expensive, and isolating to raise a disabled child.
Furthermore, I don't care if any person gets an abortion for the right or wrong reasons because I do not think there should be some outside body that decides what a legitimate reason for seeking an abortion is. Who is going to determine whether a pregnant person is seeking abortion for the "right" reasons? Will it be the government? Which government, state or local? Will it be a social worker? A doctor? An ethics board? I don't trust any institution to determine whether someone is seeking an abortion for the right reasons or not, and I don't think it would ever be possible to institute laws that would prevent "unjust" or "immoral" abortions alone. Even if it were possible to magically only prevent abortions among people with horrifically bigoted views, I would oppose it, because as OP said, I do not believe in forced birth.
It really is that simple. And the same principles apply to a panoply of political issues that are needlessly concerned with an individual person's mental state or motives. Who cares why one individual person is doing what they do. Look to the economic forces, the demands, the resources, the needs not being met, and you will see the logic behind people's behavior. There's no need to legislate away a person thinking the wrong thoughts.

Summary: I've been binge reading the manga BL Metamorphosis and my brain still insists upon Wangxianifying everything so, please consider senior citizen LQR whose nephews have gone off to college and jobs, leaving him alone in the house where he raised them. Or; it's an archived Bluesky threadfic of a BL Metamorphosis AU: Original here. Kay's comments: This story is mostly focussed on the friendship between Wei Ying and Lan Qiren and it made me incredibly emotional. Just, to see an older Lan Qiren, who is living on his own and finds an unlikely hobby and friend in one. I love how he soon finds himself even more friends within the Wei-Wen household and Wangxian's first meeting was hilarious as well. Amazing story all around. Excerpt: "There you are!" Wei Wuxian says. "I thought maybe you had gone." Lan Qiren startles, and slides the book back onto the shelf. He is probably well past the point of browsing and into reading unpaid merchandise. "I am still here," he confirms, unsure how much time has passed. "Still wanna tell me about that theory?" Wei Wuxian asks. "Wen Ning is here, which means I can go on my break. I'm dying to know what you think happened at the inn." "I won't keep you from your break," Lan Qiren protests. "So come with me while I get coffee," Wei Wuxian says. "I run on caffeine and Hanguang-jun/Yiling-laozu theories." "Very well," Lan Qiren says. After all, he has MANY Hanguang-jun/Yiling-laozu theories. Wei Wuxian has no idea what he's getting himself into. "I accept, on the condition that you allow me to purchase the coffee as thanks for lending me the book." "That was so smooth, I can't even argue," Wei Wuxian laughs.

One of the best things that MDZS did for me is that it reaffirmed my faith that the best relationships are founded on having a similar moral code. I feel too many stories have romanticised the hero-villain dynamic or the messy chemistry of morally grey characters falling in love with each other.
Huge shoutout to MXTX for calling out the fact that love alone when not combined with mutual integrity and principles can lead to A LOT of abuse.
