Beautiful
If you are like me, then sometimes, shit just gets to you. Work mounts up, family stuff eats away at you, things just feel over-whelming.
Well, close your eyes, take a listen to this, and chill out. Some things just take more time than you want them to.
Relax. Breathe in. Breathe out. Very little else matters.
Very nice class to start the day with. I found this site recently and I have to say, there are a lot of really good classes on here. Worth the subscription if you practice regularly at home.
I was so very fortunate to go to see Steve and Anne-Emilie at Sutra studio in Seattle at the weekend. Honestly, they are simply wonderful. Both they and their music are beautiful and I came away feeling amazing from being there.
If you haven't heard their music then go and check it out. I find it wonderful to practice to or just to simply relax to. Go to their website and take a listen, you can hear their stuff on there before you buy: www.somuchmagnificence.com
One of the things they did in the concert was to remind us that we all need two things in life:
1. Something to do
2. Someone to love
The first is easy usually. The second....well.
Steve reminded us that nobody will ever love you as much as you love yourself. Tell yourself now how amazing you are and mean it. Remind yourself every day. You are amazing, and you know it. Thanks for the reminder Steve.
you know it! more guys should do yoga, it's so amazing for them:) post a picture of you doing it?
I agree, c'mon fella's, get your shorts on and get on the mat. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.
As for a picture of me doing it, I'll see what I can do. :)
Great flow class today
Not, perhaps, your traditional flow class, more a beginners class for people not new to yoga, but new to a vinyasa flow class, but it was great to focus on connecting breath with movement. Simple flows, great results. Here's how it went:
Begin with seated breathing, focus on diaphragm rising and falling with breath.
Om.
Stand in mountain pose. As you exhale, bend knees deeply as in chair pose and forward bend, allow arms to flow behind you and up. On end of exhale, hold breath for count of four. On inhale, come up to standing and repeat 8 times in total.
In mountain pose again, clasp hold of opposite elbows. On an inhale, rise up on to tip-toe's and at same time, with your breath, lift clenched arms above head. Allow shoulders to soften down back at full extent of inhale and hold breath for count of 4. On exhale, with breath, lower arms and lower back down onto feet. Repeat 8 times. In fact, all these are done 8 times.
From standing, step right foot behind you as if in warrior 1. Place left hand behind back and raise right hand on an inhale. On an exhale, straighten left leg and bend forward, extending spine as you do, so come down into pyramid pose. On inhale, bend left knee and rise up, right arm up into warrior 1. Left arm stays behind back throughout. Repeat 8 times in total. After 8th time, lean weight forwards and come up into warrior 3, then step feet back together, then switch to do the other side stepping left foot back.
Do the same flow again, but at end of exhale in pyramid pose, on inhale rotate towards forward leg to come into reverse triangle. on exhale, return down to pyramid pose, then on exhale, bend front knee and come back up into warrior 1. Warrior 3 back up to standing and repeat on opposite side.
Step back into warrior 2 with front arm held behind back. Look back at hand. On exhale, windmill arm over the top, rotating hips forwards as you do and bend forward into pyramid pose as you straighten forward leg. On inhale rotate up into triangle, on exhale rotate back down to pyramid, inhale and windmill back up to warrior 3, rotating hips back as you do. On final time, stay in each position for 8 breaths. Finally, transition back to standing through warrior 3, holding that pose for 8 breaths too. Repeat flow on opposite side.
Take a wide leg stance, hips facing forwards. On inhale raise hands above head, on exhale, chant om as you forward bend. Perform 8 times. On 8th time, stay in forward bend for 8 breaths.
Come down to sitting, legs facing forwards. Bend right knee up and step foot over outside of left left, fold left leg back beside your right hip. Place right hand behind you, on inhale reach up with left hand, on exhale wrap left arm around right knee and twist to right. Breath deeply, open eyes wide and try to look further to the right. Remain here for a few breaths. Keeping your spine twisted, turn head back towards front of mat, stay here for few breaths. Repeat on opposite side.
Seated forward bend with knees bent to start with. After few breaths, slowly extend feet forwards and allow knees to drop to mat.
Bring knees up and relax back down on to the mat. Hug knees into chest.
Allow arms to fall to side, on exhale, raise legs up vertically, on an inhale pull knees back down into chest. Repeat 8 times.
Hug knees in to chest.
Feet down close in to bum, on an inhale, raise arms up above head and lift hips up into bridge pose. On exhale, lower hips down and return arms back alongside body. Repeat....yep, you guessed it, 8 times. Hold in bridge for 8 breaths on final time.
Savasana for 10 minutes.
Come back up to seated. Alternate nostril breath for 12 complete rounds.
Om.
Go to coffee shop across road, order medium size skinny latte and feel like all the good you just did is being drowned by the caffeine. But it felt amazing between finishing the class and drinking the latte.
Enjoy.
You might look like a complete dick doing this with all the bolsters and blankets supporting you etc. But as anyone who has ever done a restorative class will tell you, it is amazingly relaxing. If you haven't been to a class, then I would definitely recommend you find one and attend it regularly. The studio near me does one on a Friday evening at 6pm which is ideal for getting rid of the stress a week at work has managed to develop.
I always struggle with this pose. My hips ache like crazy as I tilt forwards and I end up losing alignment so my foot points off in an odd direction. Does anyone have any tips on how to approach it that might help me?
I like the look of this. One or two of the yoga studios I've been to on my travels have been modern designs and I think it helps sometimes. Not everyone is into the pseudo-hippy style you often find with flower garlands, icons of various types and incense and tibetan bells. I actually quite like most of that personally, but every now and again you'll find a studio that is modern and it feels different and I think different is good sometimes.
So here's to all those yoga studios out there that dare to be different.

I envy this person…. Found on stumbleupon.
You can add me to that queue of envious people. What a wonderful place to meditate.
“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

A typical morning dialogue
Me: Yaaaaawn. Time to get up and do some yoga
Conscious: No, don't bother, stay here in this warm bed
Me: But I've promised myself
Conscious: Don't worry, you'l forgive yourself
Me: No, I need to get up and do some, I know I'll feel better afterwards
Conscious: No you won't, five minutes in you'll give up and you'll be making yourself a coffee before you know it
Me: No! I've got to do this, I won't let do this to me
Perfect!
A gentle morning practice video. If you only have 10 minutes, you could do a lot worse than run through this in the morning.
