We all know about the “plank.” Some of us love it, many despise it. It even caught on as a popular trend. [...] But what if we could modify the plank to get just as good of a core workout without ignoring the body’s natural curvatures?

Hi Elizabeth, I would like to sign my husband and me up for a couple of classes. Generally, we can only attend weekend classes. Do you have any weekend classes coming up? I will keep checking your schedule. Thanks!
I am sorry, I do not have weekend classes. I can do private sessions on weekends.
Women’s Flexibility Is a Liability (in Yoga)
Bryan T. Kelly, an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, echoed the warning, saying yoga postures were well known for throwing hips into extremes. "If that’s done without an understanding of the mechanical limitations of the joint, it can mean trouble."

In my most recent Billings Gazette article, I explained how the Sumo Wrestler exercise can help alleviate knee pain. Watch and learn how to do the exercise in under a minute.
Being sure to use YogAlign fundamentals, like the SIP breath, isometric tension, and maintaining the natural curvatures in your spine, here are 10 quick and easy steps to do the Sumo Wrestler:
Stand in a straddle with legs three to four feet apart.
Bend the knees and turn the toes out slightly.
Sit the buttocks back as if sitting down into a saddle.
Be sure the amount of knee bend is comfortable; do not sit too deep into the saddle.
Place the back of the hands against the inner thighs with the fingers spread wide.
Lift the breastbone, roll the arm bones open and draw the shoulder blades down.
Be sure the spinal curves are maintained.
SIP the breath in, creating some resistance between the back of the hands and inner thighs.
Briefly hold the breath in, making fists and increasing the resistance while tightening the pelvic floor, the core and the entire body (except for the throat).
Hiss the breath out while still resisting arms and thighs, pulling pelvic floor muscles tightly and pulling long and strong in the torso.
Just one SIP breath with PNF in the Sumo Wrestler position per day can reap many benefits. The benefits of this exercise can be felt both immediately and over the long term. Many people in my classes have found that doing Sumo Wrestler regularly provides a host of positive effects.
