I'm currently in the super early planning stages for a Yume Nikki fangame. Been wanting to work on one for years, and I think now would be a fun time to mess around with it. Below I will list off areas and characters I plan on adding in based on recurring dreams I have had over the years:
Super tall black cats that can only exist on walls. Probably show up in different places and have a hallway where there are a bunch of them. Interacting with them makes their form disappear, but the smiling mouth remains.
Black and white world where it is always raining. There are stone ruins everywhere and can see mountains and hills in the background. The sun is a blackhole. Very gloomy.
A town/city where all the buildings are made of old rotting wood. They are all tightly packed together and slowly ascend up a staircase to a clocktower. The roads are made of cobblestone. There are puddles and trash everywhere. In an alleyway there is a man hiding who does nothing but stare and smile at you. Follows you around after you interact with him (I don't like him and hate this dream when it happens again).
A desert where there are black obsidian and glass pillars in the sand. There are giant stone creatures standing the background, staring up at a massive statue. There are also rusty robots here with ride giant scarab beetles.
A beach with an ocean you can go into. There is a massive trench in the middle of it. Looking down into the hole shows a gigantic, black eel with glowing white eyes. Its mouth is wide open and waiting for you to come down to it (also hate this one).
An aquarium where the fish all have human faces. The main attraction is another giant eel with a realistic human face staring at you.
Rusty hallways where weird flesh bags with sheep heads hang from the ceiling and follow you. They stop when you stop, and if you turn around they disappear. Walking again makes them appear again.
Giant mushroom/autumn forest. Fruit people live here.
Stuck inside giant water tanks that are partially filled with water. Feels very lonely and a bit claustrophobic despite how tall the walls are. Kind of mildewy and echoes a lot.
Snow lodge with a hot spring. Really relaxing and comfy. Lots of random NPCs just hanging out and relaxing.
Random city rooftops above the clouds. Can hear city life below you, but going through rooftop doors just leads to another rooftop.
A convenience store, but there are nothing but shadow people in there. Can't interact with them. It's dark outside and kind of ominious.
A mossy, waterlogged village within a deep forest. Probably connects to the mushroom forest in some way. Inhabited by mossy rock people(?). They don't move much.
Some sort of point and click world (changes how the game looks in that world).
A single map where it's dark. A woman's head with long, black hair and a wide mouth is in the background. After a moment of silence she charges at the screen with a loud scream (this dream was horrible and made me wake up screaming).
