Dae had been trying to hide how nervous he was feeling, but all his walls crumbled when she held his hand. Partly, because he had missed her touch, and it felt so painfully real that he was starting to think maybe this was happening after all. He didn’t know what to answer or how to react. He was scared that it’d be an angry note, or something worse.
Without further ado, he read the note, and as he did, he really hoped this was all a dream. It was as if someone had thrown a bucket of ice water over his head. As if he had received a sudden punch in the stomach. He read the words over and over, telling himself it was time to wake up.
Dae looked at her once more, but his stare had changed. Before there was only adoration for her; now he didn’t even know how to feel, because he knew that part of this was his fault. He dropped his gaze. He didn’t even pay attention to the food arriving to the table.
Once they locked eye contact, the regret sat deep in her stomach. Hyejin saw it. She saw how his face changed. The look he once had faded into something unfamiliar. It made her shift in her chair. “This is for the best.” She thought. The smell of food did little to her current state. It reminded her of when she wrote the stupid letter. This was worse though. He had read it and said nothing. Her heart would be at ease if he lashed out, or left. Anything but his silence.
His refusal to acknowledge the food was a huge red flag. She had cut deep. It was clear he was both hurt and shocked. “I think I should go. I’ll pay so eat a lot.” She spoke quietly. There was no way she could sit any longer. That and she couldn’t bring herself to cry in front of him. “I’m so sorry.” She wanted to say it a million times, til the phrase lost meaning. There was nothing to explain. Hyejin stood refusing to look at Dae or the note.

Dae chuckled. He was relieved that, at least for now, she didn’t seem angry. This had been easier than he’d thought it’d be! Could it be because he was dreaming? He shook his head, remembering how he could only sleep at ease when he thought about her. He didn’t want a next time. He didn’t want to be away from her ever again, he was sure of that now.
He was surprised when she mentioned she had something to give him. Dae took the sheet of paper. He looked at it, front and back, without actually opening it. What would he find in there? Would he wake up just as he came around to read it?
“Should I excuse myself or just read it in front of you?” He said with a carefree laugh that was typical of him. He was scared, to say the least, but whatever she had to say to him, even in writing, he wanted to face her. He would’ve never suspected what was waiting for him inside that paper.
Hyejin didn’t like how happy he was. Not that it was his fault. She was frustrated that she’d be the cause of it to fade. This was moment she knew would happen. Now that it was here she wanted to rip the bandaid off in one go. “Whichever makes you comfortable. I could go too.” She spoke into her lap. She knew that it’d be best for both of them for her to leave. Then if it became too much for him, she could leave peacefully. She didn’t want that though.
Hyejin had the note for so long she barely remembered if she explained herself fully. “Before you read it,” She reached over placing hers over his. “You’re very important to me. Whatever happens I hope you live a life that makes you smile. You deserve that.” Hyejin smiled briefly before removing her hand.

Dae nodded. So they both had been in completely different countries. He smiled at her when she turned to him. He couldn’t help but wonder…no, it was too soon to ask about her romantic life. No matter how much it gnawed him on the inside to know if there had been someone else.
They reached the restaurant Dae had been looking for. At least now they could talk more comfortably. He led the way inside, holding out the chair for her before he took his own seat. He didn’t know where to start. This was even more difficult than he had thought, but then he reminded himself that there was still the possibility that he was, in reality, sitting alone, so he just dived in. “I’m sorry for leaving like I did. It doesn’t matter if I didn’t say goodbye to anyone; I should’ve said it to you. In fact, every night I do. I’ve replayed the whole thing in many different ways, and in all of them I tell you goodbye.” Dae smiled. “Well, except in the scenario where you go to Japan with me.” He stared at the table, his heart fluttering faster than it ever had.
He started to talk so suddenly she barely caught it all. He was apologising for something she had down herself. “Oh,” She began before her brain was able to form proper sentences. “D-Don’t apologise. I understand. Don’t stay up late too much either.” Not exactly how she wanted to say it but close enough. The longer she stared at him, the possibility of her telling him shrank. “Maybe next time! Besides, goodbye is forever.” She perked up clinging on to the last little hope she had. Hyejin knew ripping a bandaid completely off in one go was better than pulling slowly. There was no good way to put this no matter how hard she tried to think of one. “I have something for you. I’ve had it since you went away.” She pulled the tiny folded piece of paper out her wallet. “You mean a lot to me oppa.” She emphasized sliding the note to him. Hyejin flagged down the waitress ordering them food.
She held her hands in her lap to keep them from shaking. “You can read it whenever.. Or wait until we eat..” She trailed off.

chinchadae:
Dae nodded. Maybe this wasn’t the right time to eat like there was no tomorrow. “That sounds perfect.” He already knew the right place to get them, so he led the way. “I’m an idiot,” he said as they walked, “I didn’t ask you how you have been.” He almost wished he hadn’t turned to look at her, because he felt that need to touch her. He almost did touch her, but if she was real, then there was a possibility that she would flinch away, and he just didn’t know if he had the strength for that.
Hyejin couldn't make eye contact with him. She bit her lip conflicted. It was better when they both forgot that troubling question. She continued walking hoping he didn't notice her waver. "I went to the US. For school." She smirked at the memory. It didn't hit her til later that her answer was extremely vague. "It was an internship. Mostly hands on experience stuff." Hyejin forced herself to look back at him. She felt as though he'd leave her quietly just as they'd met.
Hello // Daejin
chinchadae:
Dae had to look away because he suddenly felt as she could see through all his layers. Then, it occurred to him that perhaps the reason was that she was a figment of his imagination, so of course she would know how much he had missed her just by looking at him.
His first answer to her question was, “You,” because that’s the sort of thing you can say when you’re having an imaginary conversation, but even so he had to shake his head to recompose himself. “I mean, dumplings…” Dae looked to the sky as he thought more about it. “…and tteokbokki…and black bean noodles…and maybe even hotteok.” He nodded, convinced that that was his full answer.
Hyejin noticed the daze he had been in from the start. Subconsciously she hoped it was due to shock although she knew it had to be him being cordial to an ex? old friend? Or maybe he already knows and is shocked from that? She pushed out a smile content he was attempting to be friendly regardless. For now she knew he didn't hate her. Yet.
Hyejin fiddled with her wallet zipper as he named off foods. They all sounded amazing right now only she probably couldn't eat properly now that she wasn't alone. Maybe if she pretends this their second meeting and not their third (aka fate), she'd be less inclined to run. Not from him but herself. Her soul would leave to find a body less defiant. "Dumplings sounds good but I'm slightly biased. So let's eat black bean noodles and hotteok."

chinchadae:
She looked like Hyejin; she sounded like Hyejin too, but to Dae it was so sudden seeing her there right when he had been thinking about her. It was hard for him to believe that she was actually in front of him. “I…” Dae shook his head after choking. What was the right answer? If he said fine that might imply he hadn’t missed her, but if he said terrible then he’d be admitting he was incapable of living without her. Then again, he was probably only talking to himself, so maybe any answer was the right answer. “Not too bad. It’s good to see you, though.”
Alright, he was doing an okay job so far, so he decided to take another step forward. “Maybe you’ll let me eat next to you, and we can catch up?”
“It’s good to see you” Those words hung in the air. She blinked at him a few times regaining her senses. “I missed you too.” Her cheeks burned, not meaning to say that aloud. Even after all this time she still can’t act as chic as she wants to. It didn’t help that she added the ‘too’ as if he had said it first.
She answered mentally first. A pig squeal yes but, there is never an appropriate time to verbalize that. “Oh um, sure, I’d like that.” She smiled up at him admiring his new hair colour. Which she’s been wanting to compliment since she first saw him but other words have been coming out instead. Hyejin thought to suggest foods they’ve shared however this was a time to catch up not reminisce. “What do you have a taste for?”
are you apart of roommate? o:
Yes I am/was! I was on hiatus and then left so I wasn't on the character list but i was apart of it! If that answers your question lol
Hello // Daejin
chinchadae:
He had meant to call. Every day, he would pull out his phone, and stared at her number on the screen. He meant to call, but he knew he’d have nothing good to say afterwards. Should he strike a casual conversation? Should he apologize over and over? Would she even want to talk to him?
Dae walked with his hands in his pockets. The smell of street food hit his nostrils. Usually, he would’ve been delighted by the scent of something being fried, but on this occasion, his senses were against him. Instead of making him happy, they were causing him pain.
He thought of her among the people. Her smile before taking the bite he had offered himself. The memory got more vivid with each step he took. Hell, it was so vivid he could almost see her. The closer he got, the slower he had to walk because he could’ve sworn that was her hair, and her smile.
Dae approached her slowly with his brow furrowed. This was a long shot. The longest of all, but he would go insane if he didn’t. “Hyejin?” He asked softly. “It’s…it’s me. Dae. Hi.”
Hyejin lingered around the food stalls indecisively. Her appetite had come back and she missed eating fried foods. Hyejin was at the point of buying it all. Even if she couldn’t finish it. There was something nostalgic about the scenery before her. Only he was not there and her hand held a wallet not a hand.
The voice that called for her was familiar. Warm. For the moments he spoke her mind was muddled. Her smiled covered the nervousness. What was there to nervous about? People come and go but life still moves on. If you run into someone once it’s an accident, twice it’s a coincidence, and three times it’s fate. Only she stopped believing in her fate.
Clearly she was happy to see him but, she never knew what she’d say when they did meet again. More than anything she was afraid he’d be disappointed with whom he saw. She stopped looking at him directly focusing on the ground. If they made too much eye contact she would be easy to read.
“Hi oppa.” It felt different. It was different. Previously her excitement shined brightest helping ease the tension. Here she was standing in front of him speechless. Hyejin reminded herself how precious the meeting was. If anything went wrong she’ll at least know she tried. “How have you been?”

Quin stared at the knife on the counter as though it would suddenly jump off the counter and cut him. “Okay.” He aid awkwardly before carefully picking up the knife and moving some of the vegetables to the cutting board. He slowly started cutting them being very careful to keep his fingers away from the blade. He was probably moving entirely too slowly with his assigned task but she said to make them smaller and not to cut himself. And we was doing both. Sort of. He wasn’t entirely sure how small to make the chopped veggies or if there was such a thing as “too small”.
Hyejin let him be for time being. She wondered around the kitchen look for nothing in particular. She had forgotten what she wanted to make and was determined to remember when she saw the ingredients. “You haven’t yelped so I’m guessing your cut free.” She called over her shoulder. He was silent for a while which didn’t surprise her. They had never talked much when they had encounters. The air always seemed thick with something. However it wasn’t as suffocating. She was content with the silence. “I forgot what I was going to cook. Any ideas?”
park-jaejoon:
He smirked, amused by the other’s reply. “If I’m being completely honest with you, I don’t do much talking when it comes to these kind of situations– if you know what I mean.” Jaejoon offered the girl a blatant wink to accompany the end of his sentence. At the word oppa, it took all his effort not to break out into a laugh. It was one of the few times in which anyone in the house had called him oppa without him implying that they do so. He simply settled for a smirk. “You owe me one.” Grabbing his keys from the counter, Jaejoon walked towards the door, holding it open as he waited for the girl to exit. “Now c’mon, let’s see what you’re hiding.”
Hyejin swatted the wink away from her. It was the first time she had a glimpse of greasy Jaejoon. Definitely something she wish she hadn’t. “I owe you a ‘thank you’ if and when we return safely.” She smiled following him through the door. She was positive she had nothing to give the other considering his status as a ceo. If anything she would offer to make him food. “Hiding?” Her eyes widened at his accusation. “I’m not hiding anything. I’ve always been an open book.” She stated defensively. Her cheeks puffed out, stopping the pout that followed.
