“What a surprise, you’re alive.”

It is exactly that fake enthusiasm and subtle mirthful nuance that’s too familiar to your liking that gives rise to the arch of your eyebrow. You don’t even need to look up at the owner of the voice to picture the shit-eating smirk that belongs to none other than your editor-in-chief-slash-best-friend, Min Yoongi. Such morbid greetings have been long established as an inside joke between the two of you due to the peculiar sense of humour that you two share.

This is just how he likes to start his mornings. Being the systematic person he is, he has his own morning routine in the newsroom. Regardless of the pile of work on his desk, he’ll first make a beeline for his first cup of coffee of the day, after which he will come sauntering your way to provoke you with his laundry list of snarky remarks – about work, being tired, being alive and dead, about how bureaucracy sucks, the negative sides of capitalism and what not. Well, you two share a deep-seated sense of misanthropy so albeit provocative, his laments are refreshing in the morning – a literal morning boost of positivity from negativity.

“Not for long buddy,” you shrug, looking up from your laptop and your eyes land on Yoongi, who looks just as dead.

“I barely slept last night – was busy rushing my essays. Essays, might I repeat. So it would be great if you don’t have much for me today, although I know you have a kink for torturing me.”

At this, the edges of his lips curl up and you instantly register the meaning behind the sinister smile: your impending doom.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I do have something for my most talented and gung-ho reporter and best friend.”

“Kindly elaborate,” you smile back acrimoniously, squinting your eyes in distrust.

“It involves a profile feature of a popular varsity athlete.”

An involuntary groan escapes your lips almost instantly. Athletes are the worst people to interview.

“That’s not even the worst part yet. As we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of our publication this year, we’ll be doing a special spread on honorary members of the school, including club presidents, captains and valedictorians. Oh, which reminds me – maybe I should feature myself for being the most overworked Editor-In-Chief because this publication is sucking my entire soul, but anyway, I digress.”

He brings up his mug to his lips. It’s only 10am, but you wonder how many cups he has had, eyeing the pallor of his face.

“I’ve already assigned the other reporters their respective targets for the lack of a better word, and left the toughest nut for you to crack,” he grins smugly and that’s when it hits you.

Clocking you square in the face.

“Yoongi, no you didn—”

“Yoongi, yes,” his smirk widens at your aghast expression, “A profile feature on Kim Taehyung, for my most talented and hardworking reporter.”

Kim Taehyung.

Your biggest nemesis.

The boy who lives to torment you.

You wrung your hands together in your lap until your knuckles turned white. Staring out the window, the butterflies in your stomach out of control. Almost as if he could sense your discomfort, Hoseok reached his hand across the console and gave your clasped ones a quick squeeze. “Babygirl, you don’t have to be so nervous, Jiwoo and Mom are going to love you. I pretty sure they already do from how much I’ve talked about you.”

“I don’t know why I’m so nervous, Hobi. I guess I just really want to make sure they like me. You mean the world to me, you know,” you managed loosed his hold on you clasped palms, only to rearrange your hands so his was encased in your hold.

“You don’t have to be nervous, I promise.” With his declaration, he pulled the car into a free spot in front of the small cafe. “We’re here,” he flashed you a quick smile and brought one of your hands to his lips, leaving a small peck to ease your nerves. Setting your hand back in your lap, he swiftly got out of the car and made his way over to your side. Being ever the gentlemen, Hoseok opens your door and offers his hand to you. Once he closed the door, you two made your way inside the cafe. He quickly spotted his mother and sister sitting toward the back and you two made your way toward them.

“Mom, Jiwoo, this is my girlfriend Y/N!”

“Hi, it’s very nice to finally meet you both,” you bowed in their direction.

“Oh darling, no formalities here, you’re practically family already. Call me Mom!” Hoseok’s mother reached her hands to take one of yours into her grasp, patting the back of it. You smiled at her and sat down in the seat across from her.

“It’s nice to meet you too Y/N! I was so excited when I found out that Hobi finally found someone to put up with him,” at that Jiwoo reached her hand across the table and pinched her little brother’s cheek. He bats her hand away and matched the smile displayed on her own face.

“Y/N, I’m going to go grab us drinks, what would you like?”

“Chai Tea, please,” you smiled up at him as he stands, placing a quick peck on your forehead.

“I should’ve guessed.” You watched his back as he walks away, then you turn your attention to his mother and sister sitting in front of you.

“Hobi has been insisting that we meet in person like crazy for the last week. I swear Y/N, he’s been like a madman! He kept going on and on about our approval as if we wouldn’t love you!” Jiwoo giggles.

“We can tell how much he means to you, honey, just relax!” Hoseok’s mother reaches out and pats your hand again. You were feeling better about this whole thing, they were super down to Earth. After Hoseok returned to the table with your drinks in tow, you all fell into easy conversation. About an hour passed of this before Hoseok’s mom looked at her watch. “Oh my gosh! Hoseok, honey, you said you wanted to go to some of the shops down here right?” Mrs. Jung turned to Hoseok, Jiwoo, and then you.

“Oh, the shops down here are so cute, Mom! I came down here with my friends a few years ago and I absolutely loved them,” you say as you stand from your seat.

“I love the shops as well! Hobi, you need to hurry up and marry her, I think she’s my new favorite person,” Jiwoo linked her arm in yours. You imagined you had a bit of a shocked look on your face. Of course, you and Hobi had talked about your futures together before, but it had mostly just been pillow talk. You felt your face heat up and you look up at your boyfriend. He was pretending to not be avoiding your eye-contact, but you knew better. You could see that his cheeks were tinged pink at his sister’s comment.

Hoseok’s mom walked up on Jiwoo’s other side, “I agree with your sister, Hoseok!” His cheeks somehow reached a deeper shade of red and he gripped onto your free arm. Hiding his embarrassment from you and his family.

You could hear a muffled groan come from your arm and you couldn’t help but giggle. The fact that Hoseok wanted you to meet his family because he intended on spending his life with you caused a warmth to bloom in your chest. You looked down at Hoseok, his face still buried in your arm as you walked. Just then, you felt a sense of security. You wouldn’t mind spending the rest of your life with this dork either.

You really don’t know what to expect from a phone call and a text from one Kim Taehyung announcing his upcoming arrival until you open your apartment door to find him standing in your doorframe with a sly smile and a dress bag perched over his shoulder. You can already see the lace trimmings of the garment through the packaging and know better than to ignore the warning bells that chime in your mind.

You elect to speak upon it. “It’s a terrible idea,” You say as a form of greeting.

The smile slips off Taehyung’s face as he gifts you with a pout instead. “You haven’t even heard it yet!”

“I don’t need to,” You retort, stepping away and leaving the door open despite your eagerness to shut down his idea. If Taehyung had any other standing in your life, you would have had no second thoughts on closing the door right on his face, but he is (by some miracle) a good friend of yours. You leave the door open partly because he’s going to keep knocking until you let him in and partly because he’s going to tell you his ‘terrible idea’ whether you like it or not. “When have your ideas ever worked anyways?”

“For your information,” Taehyung says, kicking the door shut and strolling into your apartment like the place is his second home (it is). He swings the dress bag onto the back of the couch before plopping himself down upon the cushion. “My ideas are amazing; it’s not my fault the circumstances get out of hand!”

You give him a side glare. “Your ideas are supposed to consider the circumstances but you just—you know what, never mind.” You take a seat on the center coffee table in order to face Taehyung just to spare him the hassle of having to ask you to do the same thing. The boy wouldn’t just walk into your apartment with some big dress without the equally big news to match with it. “So, what’s up with the dress?”

Jimin’s not sure when it began.

As he watches you dance with a very inebriated yet still somehow skillful Hoseok, who insists on being a little too touchy with you (at least in Jimin’s opinion) it’s all that seems to cross his mind.

That, and the thought of how badly he wants to remove Hoseok from the current situation and instead replace the older with himself.

You both are dancing to the slower version of one of your favorite songs, one that’s permanently etched in Jimin’s mind because of your refusal to listen to anything else but the damn song the entire summer break of last year.
