Hi! I absolutely love your coloring style! Do you have any speedpaints or tips you can share? I often struggle with coloring and would love to get a glimpse at your process

Sorry i dug through and couldnt find any recent speedpaints so i did a new one of this doodle. It’s not rendered, but my rendering process is just merge all layers (not including gradient maps and blush and any other specific details i dont want lost) right after this and then use my brush with color jitter and color pick and start just filling in!

What's a gradient map? I hear people talk about them but idk what it's purpose is or how to use one or even how to make one lol

Hi!! I use clip studio and i know other apps do it differently, so i can’t help with specifics, but heres my mini crash course.

Gradient maps add color based on the value shown on the piece for example: here’s a piece in black and white and what it looks like when the gradient map is added. The left most side will add colors to the darkest value and right most is for the lightest!!

This is what it looks like if u flip it or with the dark color no longer being the darkest value on the gradient

It can help make your darks lighter or light colors darker. It’s all up to you! Lots of people use it go from grey scale to color. They use it as their base color before adding more specific colors to look more natural. I use the color layer or overlay, but multiply, normal, soft light, etc are all good options

I typically use it for cohesions sake though. I don’t color pick and just use colors directly from the color wheel so sometimes i want it to have a specific mood or want the colors closer in the palette. It’s a subtle difference, but left is without the gradient maps and right is with it. I used it to bring up the pinks and get the colors closer.

BUT if i decide i want more color variation that’s possible too!! I typically would do that for a piece that’s more rendered than this but it’s a possibility if i wanted to change up something
