This is a side blog for all things DC of mine! I do art, character studies and occasionally animations! You’ll mostly find Jon, Jondami, Dickkory and Cassteph brainrots here and there mighttt be nsfw/suggestive content, so if you don’t mind any of the above, come right through!
I’ve been into supersons and DC in general casually for a few years now, but the fixation started hitting really hard recently. I started dumping it all on my friend but it got super messy so I thought “what the heck! I should just make a Twitter account or tumblr blog!”. So here I am! I hope you all enjoy my silly art on top of writings (although I’m not very good at the later).
I’m not super well-versed in using Tumblr, so forgive me if I seem a little strange sometimes! I hope I’ll be able to interact with many friends!
^3^)/💕
my account is having some issues so for now i’ll be using an alt to reply to comments (it takes a while) <:)
Because holy shit, I KNEW this shit was gonna be bad. But I could have NEVER imagined just how bad
Superman Unlimited #13 Spoilers, but, honestly, don't waste your time
We start strong. With this!
(Actually we start with some Monkey shenanigans and Bibbo. Which is honestly the only good part of this story)
This is GENUINELY so bad it's almost funny
This is almost female comic character levels of "has to look pretty for the camera". Jon is legitimately not allowed to make any extreme facial expressions. Not even while "burning alive" because the only reason this exists is to showcase Cute Kid Jon Kent getting tortured. He has to look as helpless and lamb-like as possible
Btw, just for a reminder, THIS is Jon after the Eradicator "ate" both Krypto and his dad and is currently trying to kill him and his mom
And I'll be fair and say that Jon DID run and hide after he did that. Because he's a kid and that's extremely upsetting
BUT
He's ACTUALLY showing emotions
He dived right back in when shit got real and the Eradicator tried hurt his mom
And
3. (And MOST IMPORTANTLY) this happened at the start of Jon's hero run.
This is Jon after he was stranded in Apokolips separated from his parents, towards the end of the run (less than a year btw)
Just to freshen up people's memories a bit
Moving on
There's an alternate version of both your dad and your aunt running around. We're barely into this comic, please don't piss me off
I think writing and drawing Lois Lane like this should be a felony actually
(This is me being bitchy more than actual criticism, cause, yeah, you should absolutely be making sure kids are as safe as can be. But "Stay behind me and let me go in first?". Tf are you gonna do? It's been 8 years and almost all of your appearances consist of you needing your teammate to take care of the problem for you, which in this case is the 10yo with you. I mean, I guess they're writing this version of Kid!Jon so incompetent even you could do better, but still)
oh no🥺
Little Jon is violent because of his t-t-trauma from Ultraman 🥺
Isn't that Awful and Bad🥺
(This is so bad! He didn't even get this kind of trauma when Manchester Black took over his body, pushed his powers to the point they might kill him and uses it to commit atro- Oh! This - the writer doesn't remember that? Oh, he doesn't know it happened! Oops- WELL, MOVING ON-)
He's so unstable guys it's so dangerous 🥺
This is the worst thing to happen ever 🥺
Will our Good Moral Hero Tomorrow Man be able to save the status quo this poor, hurt, defenceless misguided little kid🥺
Oh, brother, this is Monkey's Paw shit, isn't it
This is made specifically for punishing me, for daring to say that, given his character, Jon should be angrier
"This Jon Kent is far more broken than I ever was" that's because you never were like the real Jon Kent, dipshit . And neither is this kid Jon-shaped prop
Firstly, because I cannot trust anyone here, no, Jon being violent and angry isn't new. He has always been like this. Trying to spin this as a great personality change due to trauma is straight up hot steaming bullshit
Let's do a little Jon Kent 101 lesson here.
One of Jon's traits is that he's violent and aggressive. HOWEVER, he's not unreasonable or out of control. It has never stopped him from being compassionate and kind. It's just how he is.
This is significant because it showcases his and Clark's ideological rift, the point of which is that neither of them are wrong. They're just different and that's ok and Clark has to learn to live with it. It opens the way for challenging the Status Quo in other areas, like how they interact with their Kryptonian heritage and how Clois are raising Jon in general
This is usually demonstrated by Jon's more violent tendencies being justified or even rewarded by the narrative, like the image of him burning the monster above, where the people praise his effort and snap at Clark
Another moment is the mentioned previously Eradicator Event. I won't bother you with the details. But, story goes, they go to the fortress to run tests on Jon, while in issue #1 Jon had killed a kitten named Goldie. They meet the Eradicator there and he fucks shit up
There's this Lois and Jon interaction
Jon doesn't take it to heart that much honestly, as we've already discussed
But the lesson comes, right? Like, it's actually shown why he's wrong to want to kill him
Nope!
This storyline ends with killing the Eradicator (well, he comes back later, but, at this point, he is killed and that's undeniably framed as a good thing)
It's also worth mentioning that the incident where Jon killed Goldie was because she was being carried off by a Hawk and Jon tried to kill it with his heat vision but missed.
It wasn't an accident as in "he killed without meaning to". It was an accident as "he meant to kill the other one". He didn't lose control, he missed.
And he missed because Clark had never trained him to use his heat vision
And we know that because Clark takes him training right after and Jon picks it up almost instantly
This panel set also shows what I mentioned before. Things end the best when Clark works WITH how his son is instead of trying to force his way into him
This is a frankly deranged way to teach your son how to use his heat vision, but Clark knows it's what Jon will respond best to and does it anyway. So everything ends well
A sweet and nice message right?
Well, too bad! Now Jon's anger is Bad and Dangerous and needs to be Dealt With. And the rest of his character traits are gone too. Can't have him challenging the status quo
This has been something that's been in my mind a lot since this run started too. It's honestly does make kid!Jon seem more like an abused animal that doesn't know any better than usual.
And while I understand it's been set up by the narrative for him to mirror Beppo through shared trauma, it ignores a lot of Jon's characteristic of being a more level headed character than what is shown here.
Me and my friend discussed this a bit too, of how they wished Jon would be more... perceptive of Tomorrow man.
It's quite a shame but I feel like DC has forgotten how to write superboy!jon for a long time now, as much as I do also enjoy the current run.
Buttt, I also think we're going off of assumptions here.
If, this characterization of superboy!Jon is infact intentional, then it leads me to believe that he's most likely from another timeline all together. And I do hope it would be explained if that's the case.
(going from the fact that it seems this Jon isn't affected at all by kryptonite, although I won't put much theorizing under this repost bc I think other people have done a better job than me at compiling stuff tgt lol)
After the new issue, I think i ended up with more questions than answers tbh 💭
Also about tm!Jon saying the timeline only have room for one jon kent, it made me sad at first but in retrospect it is pretty funny like wdym bro?? 😭😭
Me and my friend discussed this a bit too, of how they wished Jon would be more... perceptive of Tomorrow man.
NO BUT WHY IS JON SO GODDAMN OBLIVIOUS?😭
WHY IS HE ACTING LIKE THIS?😭HE HAS NEVER JUST HUGGED RANDOM PEOPLE HE JUST MET LIKE THIS?!?!
They are infantilizing him so fucking hard 🙄He's genuinely just a hurt helpless innocent little baby
If, this characterization of superboy!Jon is infact intentional, then it leads me to believe that he's most likely from another timeline all together. And I do hope it would be explained if that's the case.
See while I still do think (and hope, please don't let this be the real one I beg) there's something fishy about Jon, I don't think it's his behavior that's meant to be hinting at it. I think it's his aggression. Like, the way the comic and the other characters are written and are interacting with kid!Jon (like, tm!Jon doesn't point out his behavior, meaning he sees it as normal despite thinking this is just a younger him. Shouldn't he remember how he was as a kid? (no, because he NEVER was kid!Jon but yk)) point towards the whole "uwu cute little kid" stuff being the "normal" behavior that nobody but Krypto suspects while his aggression is something "off" about him that we are for now lead to believe it's cause of his trauma (but is it really?)
Would it be really cool if it turns into that "Hey, how did idealized your kid so hard in your head you never notice your kid was acting off?" (and in my ideal world, when Aged!Up Jon says "that's how I was" he gets "then you aren't from this timeline either")? ABSOLUTELY. But I do not think it's where we are headed
ig this really does just solidifies how DC just treats Tm!Jon and sb!Jon as 2 diff character all tgt now
Quite the opposite imo
As I said, the whole reason we are supposed to be suspicious of kid!Jon (someone who has never in his existence acted like Aged!Up jon) because he's not acting like Aged!Up Jon
trauma is hard to write so i don't wanna comment much on how you should or shouldn't write it so i'l leave it to the experts lol
Safe to assume these writers are not the experts lmao
I said it before, they way kid!Jon treated what should be traumatic events as just bad days is so cool to me
Look at this. He IS upset. He IS terrified. He's crying but it doesn't lead anywhere. Why? Because think about it. Not every upsetting situation that made you cry traumatized you
Again, is it weird that Jon didn't get proper trauma from the shit he went through? YES. THAT'S WHY HE'S SO INTERESTING. Because while he didn't get "trauma" the way one would expect, he did picked up stuff from those events and used them to be more effective when fighting against others. Meaning the stuff he went through IS acknowledged. Just not in the usual way. I love him and his weird brain very much
It would have been SO cool if Jon came back angrier at his parents with mannerisms like refusing to sleep most days and, when he rarely did, only sleeping when with someone else in the room with him, or obviously being a lot more pragmatic/efficient during fights, like aiming for the way to neutralize his opponent faster and being way better at dodging and fighting than he used to be etc You know, expected reactions (because Clois what the fuck do you MEAN you abandoned your kid with his crazy grandfather) and harmless stuff (yes, even the sleeping one because he's Kryptonian and they don't need that much sleep) he does but everyone else is losing their minds because he's not acting like they want him to be acting and now that's Jon's problem
Like don't get me wrong, there's 1001 things wrong with the Age Up storyline and it should never have happened, but IF we are doing this story, well, why not do it correctly.
Really love the idea of Jon being a super but Damian not being a Robin (nobody in the Wayne family is in the hero/vigilante business). Jon meeting Damian as a civilian bc his work as a bioengineer in a Metropolis company had him be part of a joint project with Wayne Enterprises.
Damian is working as a doctor in a hospital near the company (Bruce was eager in keeping him as close as possible) so he would actually run into Jon as a civilian a couple of times but it was actually Jon as a super that got the bulk of encounters during the month Jon stayed in Gotham.
The first encounter was Jon rescuing someone being attacked by a robber but when he got at the scene Damian was also leaping into action to protect the victim. Jon was quick in intervening and stopping the robber from harming Damian but while he was dealing with the perp, Damian was already working on stabilizing the victim and reassuring them, something that surprised Jon because of how in control he seemed.
He then found out that Damian would volunteer at hospitals/clinics in the more dangerous areas of the city. Jon would always keep an eye/ear on Damian, making sure everything was fine on his end and whenever someone was hurt, Jon would make sure to leave them in Damian’s care.
Meanwhile, Damian was a bit confused over how Superman was so quick in finding him and why he would place so much trust in him. He even tried to ask that to the super one time but he only got a comment about him having healing hands. Things got even more bonkers when Damian was trapped in an attack at a Gala.
It was just his luck that the one event that he was required to go (they rotate their appearances with the rest of his siblings) was the one where a group of kidnappers decided to crash. He was trying to keep the group with him calm while attempting to negotiate with the kidnappers to let most go in exchange of keeping him when Superman decided to crash the party.
After a quick round up, Damian found himself face to face with Jon who actually chastised him for his attempt at negotiation and asked him to please just wait for him next time. Damian was shocked at that but before he could rebuke the super, the other cupped his cheek, stared at him intently, smiled at him softly and then flew away, leaving Damian flustered and heart palpitating rapidly.
I always love to see hero!Jon making doctor!Damian flustered...
Superman/Tomorrowman flying to the hospital with a passed out civilian/crook in his arms, just so happens to always be when Doctor Al-ghul Wayne is on shift 😌
It gets to a point that if Tomorrowman/Superman arrives at the hospital, they already know the super will find a way to somehow meet up with Damian at least one minute.
Nobody knows what exactly to make of this but some (the boldest ones) already have a game about how many times a day the super comes as well as a bet to Damian’s different reactions to that. Jon would find it funny and in the more casual and less threatening situations he loved getting Damian flustered, aside from making sure that everything was fine.
However, sometimes, when the biggest emergencies occurred, Damian would be on site and those were the moments that worried Jon the most. He already knew the moment Damian’s heartbeat would be too close to where he was, that he needed to end the battle asap.
I still stand by that it is too early to tell, but there seems to be evidence pointing to an idea that while this isn’t a fake Jon, this might still be an Earth 3 variant. I did say before it was possible and I’d be down for. The first thing that stood out to me was the nightmare. Ultraman intended on making this Jon his subordinate, which wasn’t his intention for adult Jon as a kid.
The second was Kryptonite having a seemingly opposite effect on little Jon. That one definitely stuck out like a sore thumb. It made him stronger instead, which would make it possible that the Kryptonite tests at Steelworks in the next issue were the green ones instead of red. The only versions of Supers that were affected by Kryptonite in this way are the Earth 3 variants. Before, I did say that there was much stronger evidence that this is the real Jon with the possibility that he could still be another variant, and it looks like there’s stronger evidence to suggest the Earth 3 variant. It would not make sense if it was any other variant of Jon, since Tomorrow Man stripped this one from Earth 3.
Does this change the return of little Jon or the Super Sons? Hell no! Actually, it was expected that since this was like the double Superman and then Clark situation. Even the canon Superman and Lois were not from Earth 0 at the time they returned (remember, Jon Kent never originally was born on Earth 0 until Mxyzptlk got involved. He was always an anomaly). At the time, the New 52 Sups was from Earth 0 and the OG Sups and Lois were yeeted from their Earth by Brainiac. At the end of the day, we wanted a little Jon that was like the one from Pre Aged-Up, and if that means we can only get an Earth 3 variant, then I say this is a better solution.
Better yet, this changes what’s often assumed of Earth 3, that any Earth 3 variant of a hero must be evil. This would be the first time we’re introduced to an Earth 3 variant of a character that isn’t evil. Assuming this is an Earth 3 Jon, he had been tortured by Ultraman longer than older Jon ever had. Both his parents are evil. While there’s no confirmation about his mom or if she tortured him too, it may be possible that Ultraman might’ve set him up to take Jon’s place before he returned to Earth. This Jon might be beelining for Lois because he’s scared of Ultraman hurting him. In this case, we’re looking at a victim pretending to be someone he’s not in fear of being hurt again.
This was likely the best solution to bringing back younger Jon. This Jon may be from a different Earth, but that doesn’t make his stay temporary. It makes his existence as a character unique. He gives Clark and Lois a second chance in raising Jon and returning the Super Sons without erasing the older one or replacing him. Even this Jon’s friendship with Damian will be different since this Jon will be someone Damian can connect with as someone who was raised to be evil but wants to do good. Since he was the only character to give Prime the benefit of the doubt, he may do the same with this variant of Jon.
Either way, we did get little Jon back, just not in the way we were expecting. It may even be a better way of bringing little Jon back because not only can we have older Jon and little Jon, but this may be the first time we can have two Jon’s that are big brother and little brother. By the way, can we stop with claiming this Jon will turn evil when evidence shows the opposite? It’s likely that the Green Kryptonite works on him like cocaine, which is going to spread everywhere in the next issue.
