Ok rant time. Because i need to say it before i fucking explode.

Stop treating children like adults. Stop expecting children to behave like adults. Stop praising children for being “mature”. That’s fucking disgusting and you shouldn’t fucking do it.

If you tell a child “you’re so mature!” they’re going to go out and do adult things they shouldn’t fucking do. You know why? Because maturity is associated with adulthood in a child’s mind. You essentially gave them that permission to grow up too fast. Don’t do it.

You know what happened to me? My mom told me I was mature for my age and intelligent. She told me that over and over and over until I believed it. Then she fell apart and became an alcoholic and because I was apparently “so mature” I believed it was my job to fix her pieces. I did, I convinced her to get help, I screamed and screamed until it got to her, until it got to the point it had to take her to put her hands on me before she realized. I was 12, I endured abuse and looked my abuser in the face and told her she needed help. Because that’s what mature people do? Right?

Right. But you know what’s wrong? Telling your kids that it’s admirable to throw away your innocence, because somehow it became a compliment to say that a kid doesn’t act like a kid. I won’t ever be able to feel innocent again, because I’m not. It was robbed of that, in more ways than one. All because I was told growing up too fast is fucking trendy and admirable.

And you know what’s wrong about this website?

Thinking that you have to right to yell at kids and tell them they’re worthless because they make mistakes. Children make mistakes, that’s part of growing up. It’s not your job to decide their worth, it’s theirs. Don’t tell a kid to “die” because they don’t draw your problematic fucking fave correctly. Don’t tell them they’re being whiny when they vent, or complain because they’re upset. Go away. Take a fucking walk. Drink some water. This is too fucking much, it’s a website, karen. Let children be children.
