A sister is a best friend you can't get rid of | Bellatrix & Narcissa
Above all else, Bellatrix was the one who had stood by her side throughout everything and Narcissa loved her older sister and planned to do the same for her. Bella would never have to ask her to side with her over anyone else, Cissy would just automatically do it, because that’s what sisters were for and she could never do to her family what Andromeda had.
Narcissa often didn’t know what to think about Bellatrix and Rodolphus’ marriage. She knew that it was a marriage of convenience, much like her own, but the hostility and the blatant disregard for one another left the witch unsettled. She knew that her marriage at the moment was nothing to brag about, especially when she felt at the moment she had more in common with Rodolphus’ indiscretions. Lucius would be the one complaining about her in this situation, if he ever knew.
“Absolutely atrocious,” she said with a shake of her head as one of the house elves brought them snacks and beverages. Cissy took a glass of wine for herself. “I had a run in with him the other day,” she said conversationally. “Mentioned that I should come by and give you some company, which of course I agree with,” Narcissa smiled.
Bellatrix took Narcissa’s sympathy along with a glass of whiskey for herself. She needed something stronger than wine, and the house elves were happy to provide. “Only good thing out of his mouth.” At least she didn’t have to hide her absolute hatred for her husband around Narcissa. Unlike her sister, she’d never been all that interested in keeping up appearances and following social graces.
“Let’s not talk about him. If we’re to have a sisters night I don’t want it spoilt by talk of awful husbands.” Bellatrix settled herself even more horizontal on the sofa. It made it more difficult to drink her whiskey, but she made it happen anyway, taking down large swigs of it each time. She’d never been a light drinker.
“Remember when we were kids and we would always stay awake past midnight talking?” Her shone in her little gleeful moment of nostalgia, but quickly faded as she remembered there had been three of them back then, not two. “It doesn’t feel the same now...” Bellatrix would never lose her childish side, but she had lost a whole lot more in growing up.
You’re screaming.
It’s gone. GONE!
Me? I’m decent with Charms, but I’m not that good.
You did something! Reverse it! NOW!
.
Can I help you?
YOU! YOU DID THIS!

A sister is a best friend you can't get rid of | Bellatrix & Narcissa
Narcissa sighed and shook her head. She knew Bellatrix well enough to know that if anyone brought up their estranged sister that they would be in for a world of hurt. Honestly, the blonde thought that Amycus had gotten off pretty easy, all things considered. Still, she was worried for the man.
“I’m sorry that you had to put up with that, Bella,” Narcissa said, settling into the couch, her arms wrapping around herself as a comfort. “I am a little surprised that he didn’t get worse, I’ll admit,” she added with a small smile. “So, how’re things between you and Rodolphus?” It was known, at least to Narcissa, that there was no love for the pair - she was pretty confident that they hated each other, if she was being completely honest.
Bellatrix was still disgruntled, but she accepted her sister’s sympathy. She didn’t like receiving sympathy from anyone else, but Narcissa had always been a special case for her. The topic of the estranged third Black sister put aside, Bellatrix let her mood lighten again, even when their conversation shifted to her awful husband. If nothing else, she could openly gossip about how horrible he was to the one person who would sympathise with her.
“Oh he’s as awful as usual. I have a theory that his number one reason for sleeping around so much is to ruin my name,” she sniffed disdainfully. Bellatrix had told her sister about Rodolphus’ behaviour in the past. In fact she’d ranted about it after a few drinks at least once, she was pretty sure. At least Narcissa wasn’t going to use the information to ruin her honour. That was Rodolphus’ angle, Bellatrix was sure. “Then once in a while he’ll have the audacity to ask me to his bed, after all that.”
Home of the Strange | Bellatrix & Rodolphus
The Lestrange Manor was quiet and dark this evening, which Rodolphus absolutely loved. He spent the days he wasn’t on assignment relaxing, mostly napping or catching up on whatever book or newspaper article caught his fancy. If he was feeling particularly relaxed, he’d find whatever hussy girl he could and spend the day in bed, whether or not his wife was home or not. He knew it bothered her and that was why he kept his extramarital affairs so public. Anything to make his darling other half happy, he laughed to himself.
On this night, he found himself in one of the spacious parlors, enjoying a few hours of peace and relaxation. He really didn’t care where Bellatrix happened to be on this evening, actually preferring her being anywhere else right now. He had some book he had found in their library, a history on the modern use of dark arts, and seemed to be mildly engrossed in it, until he felt it. The air changed and the lights were flickering on down the hallway. Fantastic, the misses was home.
She had no idea he was in here, it was obvious. Her face and behavior changed the moment she sensed him though. Merlin did he dislike this woman. He set the book down on the side table next to him, sighing softly. “Good evening, love, it’s such a pleasure to see you again,” he greeted, smirking half heartedly. There’s was not a marriage for love or even the slightest affection. It was a marriage of power, of necessity, of nobility. He hated the woman for reasons more than could be listed.
Bellatrix hated the pet name, but the worst part was that she knew her husband did it specifically to antagonise her. It would have helped her in the long run to pretend it didn’t bother her, but she couldn’t hold up the pretense, and her displeasure was written all over her face. “Get fucked,” she slung at him. “No wait, I suppose you already have.” Her intense disapproval poured into her words, along with all the condescending tone she could manage.
She walked her annoyance across the parlour in heeled shoes she had yet to remove and sat herself by her cross-stitch supplies. Just because she detested every inch of her husband didn’t mean she was going to go running from his very existence. So she huffed, stretched out her legs and picked through her coloured cotton meticulously arranged by terrified elves.
“You know what?” she said sharply, after a moment of thought. “It should be a pleasure to see me. I’m fucking delightful.” Bellatrix had was under no illusion that this was the truth, but she felt like sending the jibe at Rodolphus since he was still in hearing range. An evening spent antagonising him was better than an evening spent bored while the buzz of alcohol wore off.
A sister is a best friend you can't get rid of | Bellatrix & Narcissa
Narcissa was pleased as she watched Bellatrix make herself at home on her couch, happy to be able to spend this time with her sister than alone in her empty house - not that she would have been any less pleased if someone were actually there besides the two of them. It had felt like it’d been too long since she had gotten to spend some time with her sister and she was thankful for the opportunity.
She wrinkled her nose at Bella’s disappointed noise and gave a small shrug, though she was horrified to hear what had happened to Amycus’ face and wondered what the hell had happened to have caused that. “His face was bleeding? What happened to him?” She would hope that Bellatrix hadn’t done it herself, but she wouldn’t put it past her.
Bellatrix’s response to her sister’s horror was a nonchalant shrug. As much as she loved her sister, she wouldn’t be made to feel guilty about her outbursts of violence. She never did. “The prick deserved it.” That was always her side to the story anyhow, no matter what caused her violent moments. Sometimes they were stupid enough to provoke her. Sometimes she claimed that their blood status was provocation enough.
As far as Bellatrix knew, Narcissa and Amycus were only acquaintances, so she didn’t question her assumption that her sister would take her side. “Asshole decided to insult our family honour by bringing up her.” There was only one significant ‘her’ in the lives of the two Black girls, so she didn’t bother explaining who she was talking about. “He’s lucky he didn’t get worse.”
“The likes of me? I can’t possibly think of what you might be implying…”
“Oh? Well that is no surprise to me. You haven’t exactly proven yourself to have any form of intelligence.”
Not many wixen families can claim such purity as yours. And I had no intention of ruining your day - you were the one to speak first.
“You had the audacity to spoil my view.”
“Was it really that obvious?”
“Yes”
“It also appears you’re making it your mission to bother me. I came here to be alone, not spend time with the likes of you.”

Home of the Strange | Bellatrix & Rodolphus
It was those days when neither of them were working that Bellatrix avoided the house most. She didn’t care much for what her husband got up to there, though it was some irritant whenever she came home to find he’d been entertaining someone in his bed. She didn’t care for him and felt not even an inkling of jealousy whenever he did this. Her displeasure came from an awareness of how this would reflect upon her good name in the public eye. She’d urged Rodolphus time and time again to keep his behavior discreet, but that didn’t mean she had any faith that he would do so.
It was past supper and her breath smelled of strong liquor by the time she got herself home. Lights turned on by themselves as she entered the foyer of the Lestrange Estate, and she dumped her outer robes on top of a waiting house elf. Already she was sure she could smell him home. Her nose wrinkled as if she had walked in on something pungent.
Their usual arrangement was separate bedrooms; her choice, since she couldn’t stand sharing a bed with her own husband. Or anyone, really. But the rest of the place was shared. She liked to steal the sunny living spaces during the day, then go out prowling on her Lord’s work in the evening. It was in passing through the living area they shared that she stopped short, noticing that her husband had the misfortune of being in the same room she wanted to be in.
Nose still wrinkled, Bellatrix gave a loud huff at the sight of him. “You’re still awake,” she remarked with disdain, though it was a little too early for bed yet, at least for her.
“Because I’m brave?”
“You must be a Gryffindor too. Only they mistake foolishness for bravery.”
A sister is a best friend you can't get rid of | Bellatrix & Narcissa
“Nonsense,” Narcissa laughed. “We can both relax right now. The House elves can bring us drinks and snacks and we’ll have a nice little sleep over right in here, just like we did when we were girls.” There was a smile on her lips. If there was anything Narcissa loved, it was spending time with her sisters, and since she couldn’t spend time with the both of them anymore, her memories were all she had.
She couldn’t remember the last time that she and Bellatrix actually behaved as girls instead of the women they had become, but she was very sure that it was long over due.
“Ah, the Carrows - Alecto and Amycus - have been my only company so far,” she said with a small shrug. “Lovely company they’ve been, too, but I’m glad to have you here now.” Thankfully there was nothing confusing about Bellatrix visiting, as opposed to when Amycus and she spent time together.
A smile crept onto Bellatrix’s face at Narcissa’s suggestion. Sleep overs weren’t quite the same at their age, but a part of her nostalgic for the better parts of her childhood had her willing to see this idea through. “It won’t be much rest for you, Cissy, if I keep you up talking half the night,” she teased with that fondness she reserved just for her.
As if already settling in for this sleep over, Bellatrix stretched her legs out on the sofa. She’d always gotten into so much trouble as a child for putting her feet on the furniture, but there were no parents in sight now. She’d leave it to the house elves to set up. She’d have snapped her fingers at them, but she didn’t have the same authority over these elves as she did over her own.
Learning who her sister had been spending time with, Bellatrix let out a disapointed, “Hmph.” The Carrows were respected Death Eaters, sure, but they weren’t respected by her. “I don’t think much of those two,” she said, because filtering her words wasn’t something she did nearly as much as she should. “Last time I saw Amycus, his face was bleeding from the shards of my glass.”
