You know when professional writers say, “We’re not writing fan fiction”? My immediate reaction is almost always – well, maybe you should be.
Maybe you should be the fan writer who spends a lovingly long time getting into characters’ heads and making sure they’re internally consistent? Who cares more about interactions and dynamics than pulling the rug out from under audiences’ feet.
Maybe you should be the fan writer who chooses to show characters in love even if they’re not M/F, white, cis & invariably middle class.
Maybe you should be the fan writer who cross-references and checks with what they’ve written before so that they don’t contradict themselves and who cares a lot about getting it right.
Maybe you should be the fan writer who writes stories simply to share them with an audience who will enjoy them and doesn’t add plot elements merely for shock value, but because it suits the story they’re telling.
Maybe you should be the fan writer who plays with tropes that are fun and entertaining and light-hearted and no less brilliant for it. Or who writes hurt/comfort and actually follows through on the comfort.
Just a thought I have, quite a lot.

I'm never going to be over the finale and Stelena. Like... Sure, they were talking about Damon/Elena and Stefan/Caroline. But the subtext. The looks, touches. The emotion, Elena's reaction to Stefan's death. The chemistry. That? That was all about Stelena. Delena may have been endgame, but Stelena got the emotion and heart, and nod to their past. Their goodbye scene was powerful and far more intense than Delena's reunion. And Stefan's death sparked Elena to live her best life. She didn't take what he did for granted. We see her in the finale, ostensibly a few years later at the cemetery, still thinking of him. Devoting her life to him. That? That's love. And its own kind of endgame.

After med school, I came home to Mystic Falls. It felt right. It’s where I want to grow old. And that’s my life. Weird, messy, complicated, sad, wonderful, amazing, and adove all… Epic. And I owe it all to Stefan.
My only consolation over the TVD finale is Elena living her human life as a tribute to Stefan. And that amazing goodbye scene Stelena got? So heartbreakingly gorgeous. Her emotional reactions, their conversation, the chemistry. It was all there and organic and beautiful. PS. If you listen close, I swear Stefan whispers "I love you," to Elena as he's holding her.
