“I think so. My girlfriend-” and it was still weird to think of Michelle as his girlfriend, but weird in the best possible sense “-already knows I’m Spider-Man, so that’s gonna make things easier… Right?”

“I can safely say that Pepper knowing, even before she was my girlfriend, made things way easier on me… Also, congrats on making things with MJ official. Took you long enough.”
He gaped. And closed his mouth. "I'm guessing Happy told you the whole story?"

“What? No. Noooo. I mean, May… if she feels ready, she’s ready, right?” And they barely mentioned uncle Ben anyway. There was always something going on.
“She’s ready, but are you?”
“Yeeeep. Definitely ready. The readiest. Bring it on. Him. Whatever.”

He shrugged it off (or at least tried to). “Couple of years.” Right after he got his powers, but there was no need to mention that.
He patted Peter on the back in a way he hoped was comforting. “Well… That might feel like a long time for your aunt. Just because she’s maybe dating again doesn’t mean your uncle never existed. Does it bother you that much?”
“What? No. Noooo. I mean, May... if she feels ready, she’s ready, right?” And they barely mentioned uncle Ben anyway. There was always something going on.

“I mean, I’m glad May is moving on after Uncle Ben but…” Weren’t they too old for summer flings? Peter shrugged.
Tony shrugged. “I’m sure your aunt attracts all kinds of guys, so Happy’s definitely not the worst to have to deal with for a bit. I think you were starting to grow on him.”
"I know. Happy... he's pretty great." Anyone who rescued him after being beaten up in the middle of a tulip field in the Netherlands deserved a chance to date his aunt. "Still not on board with May dating people, though."

“I know, sir.” Peter had to smile, feeling maybe just a little bit less tense. He stared at Tony’s empty hand for a moment before his brain reacted, though. “Oh. Right.” He moved his backpack to the front and took out the glasses, handing them over. “See you later, Edith…” She’d be in better hands with Tony, anyway.
“By the way, I think my aunt dumped Happy.”
Tony slipped the glasses into his back pocket, reminding himself to drop them off with Rhodey later. He would be perfect for the job, but it didn’t hurt to see how Peter would fare with the responsibility.
He raised his eyebrows. “Really? Can’t say I’m surprised. Saw it as kind of a Summer fling. Bet Hap’s real hearbroken though.”
"I mean, I'm glad May is moving on after Uncle Ben but..." Weren't they too old for summer flings? Peter shrugged.

Tony smiled and held his hand out. “I think that sounds good to me. Peter Parker will make a way better hero too. One day,” he grinned teasingly. “You’re not just a friendly neighborhood hero anymore though. Maybe I went a little to fast and loose with the gifts and the mentorship, but it’s only because I want the best for you and I want you to be protected.”
“I know, sir.” Peter had to smile, feeling maybe just a little bit less tense. He stared at Tony’s empty hand for a moment before his brain reacted, though. “Oh. Right.” He moved his backpack to the front and took out the glasses, handing them over. “See you later, Edith...” She’d be in better hands with Tony, anyway.

“O….ne that’s gone forever. But we can take a picture together later, what do you say?” Wanting to please little Morgan Stark was easy. And unavoidable. She had her dad’s charm, times ten.
“And I did, but… you saw what happened with Mysterio. I… I almost ruined your legacy, sir. Isn’t it better if someone else had the glasses? You? Cap?”
She beamed at that idea, nodding enthusiastically. Tony took the opportunity to pick her up by the armpits, ignoring her whines as she kicked her legs in the air. “Alright, why don’t you run inside and look for mommy’s camera and we’ll take that picture in a bit?” This seemed to placate her and she went back into the house, now on a mission.
Tony sighed and turned back towards Peter, putting an arm around his shoulder. “Let’s take a walk, kid,” he said, leading him around to the back of the house so they could walk along the lakefront. “You can’t blame yourself for what happened. Beck was a master manipulator, and while I’m not happy you had to deal with him, it’s also a good thing. You’re starting to see the worst kind of people, and everyone needs to experience those things to realize you can’t trust everyone.” He shrugged at the idea. “I thought about keeping them, but I’m trying to take a step back. Having a constant eye on the world’s security isn’t exactly something uninvolved. And Steve has had enough of world security systems, he turned me down immediately,” he laughed. “I gave you Edith because I trust you to make the judgement calls. Having you take her to Europe with you was… a test run, let’s say. I know you feel like you failed me, but just think of it as a misstep. And if you really don’t want the responsibility of using Edith’s systems, I can take her back. Maybe you’re right and you weren’t ready, but I’ll let you make that call.”
Peter let Tony walk him around, and he listened with his head down. The glasses were on his backpack, since he didn't dare to keep them out of his sight after what happened in London. "I... I don't wanna sound ungrateful, not after what you and Happy and everyone has done for me, but... maybe Edith isn't really for me?" He put his thoughts in order before putting his foot on his mouth. "I... I mean, I still can't believe you thought I could ever be the next Tony Stark. But maybe... maybe I should just try to be... the first Peter Parker? At least– at least for now?"

“Did you set an army of drones in outer orbit on a guy who took an embarrassing picture of yours?”
“Well, no, but you said you stopped it didn’t you?”
Morgan looks up from Peter’s knees. “What embarrassing pitcher?”

“Heeeey, there.” He crouched to hug Morgan back before she stuck herself to his leg. Yeah, she wasn’t going anywhere for a while. “So, uhm… I got your package, sir?”
She wound her arms around one of Peter’s legs to at least give him the option to walk if he was willing to drag her along. Tony sighed and gave her a warning glare. “Hm? Oh, right, Edith. How’s she treating you?”

“It’s alright, kid. You know you’re welcome here whenever-” Upon him greeting Morgan, the child starts wriggling out of his arms, reaching out towards Peter. “Pete!” she crows excitedly, Tony eventually setting her down so she can rush off the porch and hug Peter around the legs.
"Heeeey, there." He crouched to hug Morgan back before she stuck herself to his leg. Yeah, she wasn't going anywhere for a while. "So, uhm... I got your package, sir?"
