Hello!! Biologist in college here, so please excuse my potential incorrectness but I really like the classification of species so this is a long post
If weāre going to go by the straight biological nomenclature, I would say that a āmikuā instead of being a species, is actually a genus! Think of a house cat: the scientific name is Felis catus (yes I know fitting right). Felis is the genus of small to medium sized felines that includes wild cats such as the sand cat (Felis margarita. Which. Amazing name btw) and the Chinese mountain cat (Felis bieti) while catus is the direct species. Members of a genus are defined by (rifles through notes)
-monophyly: on a taxonomic tree, a group that includes a common ancestor and all of its descendants
-the ātype speciesā which is basically the ābaseā species that all of the other members of the genus would be compared to. In the case of miku, her ātype speciesā would be her OG design and release in 2007 (also known by her official code name, CV01) that all other miku are classified under.
Genus is kind of a weird thing because scientists are still arguing as to how to classify a genus (should it be a big group with a bunch of species or a little, more specialized group?) so ooooo fancy science stuff I wonāt go into because I am not qualified to talk about that.
The concept of āvocaloidā would most likely be either the family or the order, which are the classifications above genus. Felis catus is part of the family Felidae, which includes all cats like tigers (Panthera tigris) and the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus, which is the only living species that is a part of the genus Acinonyx fun fact. Protect endangered species yall climate change is no joke). Felis catus is part of the order Carnivora which includes all carnivorous animals, not just felines.
For the sake of this example I would assume that a āvocaloidā is the order, and that is divided into two families: the classic vocaloids (miku, kaito, kagamine twins, etc) which were all created by crypton and are part of the paid software, and utauloids (Teto, Utane Uta/Defoko, Ruko Yokune, etc) which are the members of the free software Utau. Yes I know theyāre technically not vocaloid but for the sake of this example weāre going to put them in the vocaloid family. Yes I know there are more versions of the -loids but weāre not making an accurate* phylogenetic tree for this tumblr post so if anyone wants to be my guest. Thereās a whole wiki that differentiates what an Utauloid is at utau.fandom.com so if youāre interested in some Teto history go check out that website.
Back to our original question of miku, I wonāt get too fancy and go any further than her order, which is āVocaloidā, and her family, which is āclassic vocaloidā. So all miku would have the same order, family, and genus, just all members of a different species, if that makes sense.
PJSK miku vs non PJSK miku would be like subspecies or something of the like i would say. Please donāt @ me itās 7am.
Humans fall under the family hominidae (Homo sapiens) which is different than this hypothetical family vocaloid.
So to answer your question, you are NOT the miku!
