Little Putt #2

When we noticed the small lumps that appeared on his neck (under his chin on either side) we thought that he had a stomach infection. We observed closely. He wasn’t in pain. He wasn’t different in any way. Really, at that point, the lumps were hardley noticeable anyway. One week to the next, however, it seemed that those lumps doubled in size and suddenly Putt was eating less. He ran slower. He played for shorter and shorter periods of time.  That’s it. Vet time. It took so long, actually, because Putt had never had to go to the vet before. Well, once as an eight-week-old puppy, he got a sticker in his nose and needed surgery to have it removed otherwise he would have sneezed himself into oblivion. 

The vet observed. Took a sample. Looked at the red to white bloodcell ratio and said plainly, “Putt probably has Lymphoma. I’m almost entirely sure but we can have more tests done by an oncologist in San Antonio to be certain.” Because we didn’t have the time to take off from work, or the money to drive up to SA from Corpus Christi, or the money to pay for dog chemotherapy, we decided that we were sure he had Lymphoma too. Hell- the dog had every symptom for Lymphoma we could find and, if that were all true, we also thought we had very little time left with him.  See the internet says estimated death; 2 months from diagnosis. Well shit, I guess we should have pushed going to the vet back even more. So what does this mean? Is it too late to start him on the “Dog Cancer Survival Guide” dog cancer diet? Is it too late to start him on CBD oils? We gave it all a shot anyway.

At first it worked- he ate a bit more with incentives like liver, venison, and chicken to choose from. The CBD helped initially too. We started sneaking him vitamins- most dogs don’t have a problem scarfing down a hidden pill here and there but, as previously mentioned, he’s always been spoiled AF. We were even cooking fresh meat every day for his ass. 

Within a short time he just wanted less and less. We called the vet again when we couldn’t stand how shallow his breathing had become. We could barely sleep. Neither could he.

Somehow, we made it to that next morning, met with the vet, paid for the (very affordable) Prednisone steroid to keep him alive and feeling better. Again we were left with doubts. The internet said that from the start of treatment with Prednisone, Putt had a new life expectancy of between 1 and 3 months. Great.

Little Putt #1

Putt is five years old. He is an incredible companion. He is one of those dogs that even strangers can understand where the expression, “man’s best friend” come from. He doesn’t run away and only lingers farther than he should when a nearby female is in heat- he’s a bit of a romeo. He lives a great life with Travis.

Every morning, Putt wakes up next to Travis. He used to wake him up with incessant kisses. By midday he’s gone on at least one motorcycle ride and, when we lived in the desert, he had already gone on one of his daily explorations. Travis doesn’t smoke or feed him shit food. Travis doesn’t yell or hit his little Putt. Putt is a name that comes from the sound a small motorcycle makes. 

Putt is too young, too healthy, and too happy to have lymphoma. Cancer, however, does not discriminate. 

At this point I just wanted to share what’s going on so that if anyone in the big wide net finds themselves with a young dog that will die far too soon, you aren’t alone.

Super Food Blues Fix This super-food inspired filler is a great treat for anyone looking to revamp their love for flavorful health foods. You can quickly cook this up for yourself, make it for many guests, or make extra to add to other dishes. Its simple and easy to make! You'll need one bundle of kale (spinach works great too) and one half cup of quinoa per person. Add other sweeter mixed vegetable like corn, carrot, or brocoli to create a nice balance of flavors. While you're on the stove make sure to be baking some spring rolls. These can be store bought, homemade, vegan, vegetarian, or meat. The rolls serve as the "something you bite into" and make great filling mouthfuls combining with the other goods on the dish. You can also fry the rolls but I prefer to have one thing not from the stove on each dish I make to add texture. Kale can always be rinsed and thrown directly onto a hot pan but for less chewy greens, massaging the leaves is ideal. Remove the kale from its main stem and remove any thicker stems before putting it into a strainer. Run a bit of luke warm water over the kale as you rinse and massage the greens. Add lemon juice (lime, orange, or any citrus is excellent too) to break down the remaining waxy layer off the leaf and add refreshing flavor. Boil one cup water per half cup of Quinoa. Cook the two together and when they boil, lower the temperature to medium. Treat the quinoa like rice so that when the water is all but gone, turn off the heat. On a pan throw in the kale which will wilt to less than half its size by the time that you should add the rest of the vegetables and quinoa. When the kale is a very dark green its time to serve the hot dish into a bowl. Add any leftover quinoa on top for a clean look and add some spring rolls to the edge. Feel good about the food you eat!

Protest Breaks out Against the Lack of Sanders Coverage Outside CNN Studio In Hollywood California, And Not One News Network Is Covering it

On Sunday, more than 1,000 protesters voiced their anger over CNN’s lack of Bernie Sanders coverage and the medias blatant bias towards Hilary Clinton, at the network’s Los Angeles headquarters.

And yet….not one Major or Local new station is covering it….

Protesters gathered together in a peaceful sit in, holding up bernie signs and chanting “Clinton News Network”. Since CNN’s first Democratic presidential debate program this election season, the network has put Clinton front and center and fawned over her performance, even when Sanders gained more followers.

This #BernieBlackout is no coincidence or accident.  it could have something to do with the fact that Time Warner Cable owns CNN. Time Warner, of course, has donated over $400,000 to Hillary Clinton’s campaigns.

Despite his last six wins in a row, and the fact that Bernie’s managed to pack arenas with over 27 thousand people, Sanders has been largely ignored by the network. Ironically, CNN continued to run segments on an upcoming travel show even as the large mob chanted outside the building.
