Perseverance!
Persevere: Continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
April 19th, 2012, I began my journey on creating a platform where I could share inspiring, motivating, and EMPOWERING information. A platform that I could produce and have creative control on the content that I wanted to impart with the world.
I didn’t know exactly how any of this would look, I just knew that it was something that I was very passionate about!
Broadcasting was something that I wanted to do as far back as I can remember. I even went to a Broadcasting School, graduated with honors, (thank you very much), and went out into the world equipped with the knowledge that I needed to get started in the industry.
Throughout my journey, I have been very BLESSED to walk through many doors that enhanced my skills which allowed me to use my creative juices to do pretty much anything that I could think to do.
After a while, life happened. I had a family, bills had to get paid, children had to be raised, which meant dreams got deferred. We then set out to make sure we could maintain as much of a balanced life while raising children, while simultaneously working on a relationship with your spouse/partner. WHEW!
So as time went on, my “dream/s” got pushed further and further down the rabbit hole, BUT they did not disappear! They lived on inside of me as a low flickering light that refused to burn out.
It wasn’t until many, MANY years later, I wrote a book. Another one of my dreams that came true! A very dear friend of mine asked if I would like to be interviewed on a local radio station to promote my book. I agreed. That’s when my whole life changed!
When I went to the studio for my interview, I had to wait in the lobby for the host of the show to get me. As I sat and waited, I had a sense of excitement building up inside. I started to pay attention to my surroundings which were so familiar to me, and I could have sworn I heard that “still small voice” say, “welcome home!” I’ve worked in every genre of media including print. At that time, it had been YEARS since I set foot in a radio studio.
The host came out to bring me into the recoding room. When I got seated and put on the headphones, and pulled the mike in front of me, I felt at peace. I was not nervous as it was like putting on an old hat or a comfy pair of slippers. It was at that very moment; I KNEW this is where I belonged! THIS is what I wanted to do! I had forgotten how much I loved sharing information via broadcasting. It all came back in a FLASH!
On my drive home, I was so excited about my discovery, I couldn’t wait to share the news with my bestie! I didn’t know anything else, the how’s, the when’s, the where’s, nada! All I knew was I had the DESIRE and it was absolute! It was sealed in my heart!
I also knew and BELEIVED in what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “You don’t need to see the whole staircase, just take the 1st step!” That is one of my favorite motto’s that I use consistently, and every, single, time that I adhered to it, that’s when MIRACLES would appear!
I started to do my research into what I would need in order to produce my own show. I made a vision board geared to what I envisioned my show to look like, and what equipment I would need and so on. The key component to all of this is FAITH! I still had NO IDEA how it was all going to happen, I just kept moving forward while keeping my heart open to receive information that I knew was coming to me.
It didn’t take long before everything I needed to get started fell into my lap! I was ESTATIC! I was on my way! Everything I had ever done professionally started to kick in. I realized I had ALL of the tools I needed to do what was in my heart to do! EVERYTHING!
So, I set out to produce and host my show: “A Date with Destiny.” and I have not missed a beat. I also want to share that I didn’t start this show looking for fame or fortune. None of that was a priority for me. Nope! I knew that “if I built it, everything else would come! I knew that If continued to put my best foot forward, with integrity, and do the best that I could, everything else would fall into place. And it did! In the 10 years of producing this show, I have interviewed some truly EXTRODINARY people from all walks of life! And because its internet based, it reaches ALL across the GLOBE! It still blows my mind at some of the places that people have tuned in to listen! Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, United Kingdom, Sweden, Morocco, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Philippines, Vietnam, Germany, France, England, Netherlands, Antigua and Barbuda, United Arab Emirates, and Kazakhstan just to name a few. It’s also amazing when they reach out to me to let me know how much a particular episode really helped them. That will never grow old! I’ve also established some AWESOME relationships in which I am truly grateful for.
There is so much more I could say about this wonderful journey that I’ve been on and will continue, until I grow tired of it, which is no time soon. I do want to point out that for anyone who reads this post, who has a dream or a desire within their heart, and you’ve stepped out on faith, but it doesn’t seem to be going the way in which you were hoping, or it seems like it’s taking FOREVER for anything to manifest, KEEP GOING! Don’t stop!
Yes, there will be times when you may feel like quitting and giving up, but if you do, you will never receive the harvest that you’ve spent so much of your time sewing! The investment that you’ve put into yourself, will all disappear! All of your hard work will go right down the drain.
Now that’s not to say don’t be afraid to start over, I’m just saying don’t be so quick to quit and give up on yourself ESPECIALLY if you’re PASSIONATE about what you’re doing. The late Mrs. Ruby Dee gave me some of the BEST advice about finding something that you are passionate about and to put your whole self into it!
Also, and this is very important, do NOT allow the naysayers to infiltrate what you know that GOD has for YOU! It’s not THEIR dream; it’s YOURS! I’ve done many shows on this very topic! Haters, are ALWAYS gonna hate! Let them. Just. Do. YOU!
I want to THANK everyone and anyone who has taken the time to listen to at least one episode. Thank you to my family and friends for ALWAYS, loving and supporting me in ALL of my “creative endeavors,” and a special thanks to all of the guests that have come on and shared pieces of their journeys with us.

Persevering builds character. It shows you what you’re made of. It leads you on a true faith walk. You’re learning, evolving, and actually making a difference in the lives of others. It just takes, one step at a time. And remember, you don’t have to see the whole staircase…
