FUCK THIS JOB. I do not wake up at the crack of my ass every morning and don't return home 11 hours later for this kind of stupid stress.

I constantly worry if my work is adequate enough every day because all they care about at the end of the day is numbers, unrealistic numbers that I can't produce because of forces outside of my control, and they continuously give me contradicting orders on what to do.

Like, I'm 26. I don't think I deserve to be crying over my keyboard because I'm so stressed out.

She knew the truth behind the mention, not doubting for even the slightest second about his heroic feats against evil. However, it was not hard to miss the hint of sadness upon mentioning his friend, recognizing the melancholy easily from her own experiences. Such great feats were not possible with close friends by one’s side, and when one had the chance, it was best to honor it. She nodded in agreement with the statement, only for her cheeks to turn even pinker upon him noticing the shade. “I can say the same for the shade of red.” she jested with a light giggle. “It’s quite suiting on you as well.”

Joking aside, his response to her proclamation of the heart was enough to silence her words, to make her own heart warm even more, her soul nearly ready to escape its beating confines to soar with his. She rested his forehead against his, snuggling close and admiring all of him; from the gentle scent of mint mingling with the musk of the outdoors on his skin, to the soft white of his tresses that swayed with each gentle breeze, to the warm hued eyes filled with sheer amount of love he held for her. It was a sight she truly missed when he was gone, and adored when he returned, and though she had plenty of places she felt content in, it was here, during moments where they could be together, did she feel even more at ease. 

"I was told that when two people truly loved each other, no matter how far they go or how long they leave, they will remain in each other’s hearts forever. And sooner or later their hearts will always find a way to meet each other again…" She closed her eyes, allowing the rest of her senses to take in the moment. "I used to think it was just a tale, but now…I understand. I’ve seen so many things…experienced so much loss…but when I see you, when we’re like this…I believe it. I may worry, but I know deep in my heart that you’ll find a way back, that we’ll be there to give each other strength because we’re connected. And for that, I’m thankful."

He squeaked as he soon realized his face was, in fact, warm. He was trying hard to play it cool, but the goofy smile that often decorated his face was forcing its way on once more. "Ah, what can I say? Red's not a bad color for me."

He sat still (surprising, considering who it was) as he listened to Maria talk. He nodded here and there, agreeing with her words. "Heh, yeah, considering all we've been through, I believe it. Things always have this funny way of working out, even if you think it won't. Sure, we've been to the Void and back, but I think that's only made us stronger, both as ourselves and together. It's weird... I can't really see myself without you anymore. For a long time, I kinda got used to the fact I might be going at it alone. But, then, I met you, and I realized I wasn't going to be, and I didn't have to be. I know Dad wanted me to wander the world, but... I don't think he'd mind if I wandered my way back to you every now and again."

Her smile only grew at the blush on his cheeks, a content giggle leaving her at the jest. “I’ve seen you climb, and you were able to climb up that tree better an expert. Luckily, I was ready for the catch during the coming down part—but halfway through, you were doing great. That tree didn’t know who they were dealing with.” Soon it was her turn for her face warm up, a darkening pink forming on her cheeks as those heartfelt words met her ears. “Aww Bartz, now you’re gonna make me blush…I’m so happy I’ve found you too.” She glanced away for a moment, her smile remaining as she gave her next words. “I love you.”

"If you thought me beating that tree was awesome, you should've seen me take on Exdeath!" A slight pause before adding, "Though, Galuf was even better at it than I was..." There was a twinge of melancholy in his voice at the mention of his friend, but it quickly passed when he noticed the pink filling her face. He chuckled before saying, "That shade of pink looks good on you."

He was so caught off-guard by her next words, he was struck speechless for a moment. Sure, he knew she did, but hearing the words come from her mouth... it was something that always made his heart flutter and feel like it could burst from his mouth and go to parts unknown. "... I love you, too. I wouldn't be half the man I am now if it wasn't for you. Dad always said I'd know if I found the one, and when I met you, I finally got what he meant. Whenever I leave..." he shifted a moment to put his forehead against hers to take in everything he could about her - her sight, her smell... the familiar scent of roses clung to her like a natural perfume. She was like his second home. "... I always find myself wanting to get back to you as soon as I can."

"It’s not even about the number of moments or how we spend them; it’s about knowing that those moments are ones to treasure, and we get to treasure every minute of them together." She rested her head on his shoulder before responding again. "Well, I am able to take on whatever challenges without breaking a sweat…" She laughed, before glancing up at him. "But I also have some of the best people looking out for me too when things get tough. I’m sitting next to one of them right now."

"Oh, shucks. You're gonna make me blush." Too late. He was already pretty red. He relaxed his shoulders a bit to make it more comfortable for the both of them. "You know I feel the same way. If you're there, I feel like I can do anything - heck, I could climb a tree... sort of. The coming up was the easy part. Coming down... Not so much," he chuckled. Sure, he played it off casually with a laugh now, but it wasn't exactly a laughing matter at the time. "Hey... Maria? I'm glad I found you."
