i love holden but i also think (if he didn’t have d.b. around to keep him humble) he’d be the type to say “what is this, nazi germany” every time someone tries to enforce rules he doesn’t like
people don't characterize stebbins as vain enough for my liking. give me a stebbins who's arrogant and full of himself and confident. give me a stebbins who acts like hot shit and is kind of obsessed his appearance. because, like, yeah, sure, that's a weirdo, but that's a weirdo who was (at one point) wholly convinced he was going to win. give me billy "would feed his mother a lysol cocktail if it meant he'd win" stebbins. let my boy get a little cocky and selfish with it, even if it's just to mask the fact that he feels unloved and is deeply insecure.
at the end of the day, he is VERY chalant and has never been cool about anything in his life
❝ oh, i don't know 𝐰𝐡𝐲 she's leaving or 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 she's gonna go ... ❞
˚₊‧꒰ა ALICE LAUDINE HOLLIDAY
" there goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen "
age. 20 nicknames. holliday, allie, holly gender & pronouns. female, she/her romance. billy stebbins (pre-tlw canon) friends. anybody that can tolerate her personality. holliday is sharp, observant, and quietly calculating, always watching and listening before she speaks. she has a natural wit and a sarcastic edge, often using humor to deflect or test those around her. at first glance she can appear bubbly, naive, or flirtatious, but this is usually a mask she wears to disarm others, especially while gambling or performing. she is fiercely loyal to the few people she trusts, and her care is shown through actions rather than words. holliday values intelligence and cunning, and she rarely wastes her energy on those she considers undeserving of her attention. she is moral at her core, protective of others, and willing to put herself in danger for the sake of those she loves. beneath her outward confidence and charm, holliday carries deep grief and exhaustion from loss and trauma. she struggles with feelings of emptiness and often pretends to enjoy life more than she truly does, keeping her pain private. despite this, she is remarkably resilient, resourceful, and brave, facing situations that terrify her with quick thinking and composure. her intelligence is matched by a strong sense of fairness and justice, and while she dislikes violence and gore, she does not hesitate to act decisively when the lives of others are at stake. holliday is enigmatic, self-reliant, and profoundly human, blending vulnerability with strength in ways that inspire both fear and admiration.
❝ DOC, I THINK SHE'S CRASHING OUT .. ❞
alice holliday was born into a lower-class family on march 14, 1960, and grew up alongside her siblings in a household marked by loss and absence. her mother died when she was young, and her father was largely absent, leaving holliday to find solace and purpose in music and performance. from an early age, she sang at local bars, community events, and with her brothers’ groups, developing a soft, haunting soprano that drew attention despite her youth. she quickly became known for her natural stage presence and charisma, performing with a confidence that belied her tender age. by the time she was a teenager, performing and traveling with a semi-nomadic troupe known simply as “the troupe” became central to her life, giving her a sense of belonging that she rarely found at home.
holliday is intelligent, observant, and self-reliant, with a mind that is quick to analyze situations and people. she has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and often keeps her words for those who earn her trust. while she enjoys performing and the admiration of crowds, she is aware that much of her identity is tied to survival and routine, rather than pure passion. holliday is loyal to those she loves, particularly remy frost, whom she has known since the third grade and considers like a brother. she is comfortable and protective around him, often stepping in to guide or defend him, and is careful to maintain her independence and agency in all her relationships. she is enigmatic and reserved, saving her truest emotions for private moments or the few people she trusts completely.
holliday’s interests are wide-ranging and unconventional. she loves performing, from singing to entertaining crowds, and is drawn to the thrill and strategy of gambling, excelling at poker, darts, and other games of skill. she enjoys travel, novelty, and the freedom of life on the road with the troupe, often using her charm and intelligence to navigate unfamiliar towns. she also has a love for small personal traditions and tokens, like carrying a lucky rabbit’s foot, and delights in subtly outsmarting those who underestimate her. overall, holliday is a lively, cunning, and magnetic figure, driven by both survival and a genuine curiosity about the world, even before the tragedies that would shape her later life.
likes: performing on stage, singing, entertaining crowds, gambling (cards, darts, and other games of skill), traveling from town to town, spending time with close friends, small personal traditions like her lucky rabbit’s foot, outsmarting people who underestimate her, witty banter and sarcasm, observing people and situations, quiet moments of reflection, freedom and independence, fleetwood mac dislikes: violence and gore, televised death games, being underestimated or patronized, losing control of a situation, grief being ignored or dismissed, feeling trapped or confined, guns (despite her skill with them), heartbreak and loss, authority figures who interfere unnecessarily, showing vulnerability to strangers, people taking advantage of others
❝ SHE'S FREQUENTLY KINDAND SHE'S SUDDENLY CRUEL ..❞
pre-canon: before the events of the long walk, holliday is a lively and ambitious young woman, fully immersed in performing and traveling with her troupe. she has not yet experienced the deep grief that will later define her, though she has grown up with loss in her family, including her mother’s death and her father’s frequent absence. she is highly intelligent, observant, and quick-witted, often using her charm and cunning to navigate the world around her. holliday’s interests at this time include performing on stage, singing, gambling, and traveling from town to town. she is loyal to her friends, and has a strong sense of independence. during this period, she first meets billy stebbins, falling in love with him as a teenager and patiently waiting for him to notice her (she ragebaited him for years). overall, pre-long walk holliday is confident, charismatic, and energetic, driven by curiosity, survival, and the thrill of her performances. post-canon: after billy stebbins’ death in the long walk, holliday’s life and personality change dramatically. she becomes quieter, more reserved, and emotionally burdened by grief, carrying the loss of billy alongside the earlier death of her father. she continues to perform and gamble, but these activities are now tinged with a sense of emptiness, and she often pretends to enjoy life more than she truly does. holliday becomes skilled at using deception, charm, and her intelligence to manipulate situations for survival, such as gambling against newsboys or protecting her friends. she suffers from tuberculosis but tells no one.
