sharon carter is not and has never been “just Captain America’s girlfriend”. In fact she’s actually the one always turning him down when he wants to start the relationship because she wants to focus on her career. and then years down the line sharon was the one who proposed to him.

sharon carter once shot a man to preserve Steve’s morality so he wouldn’t have to live with that weight on his shoulders. 

Sharon is an abuse survivor. (Both mentally and sexually). She was tortured and imprisoned and went through a very human arc where she dealt with the impact of these events.

She once took in a young mutant girl who was beaten because she reminded her of herself and felt empathy for her.

Sharon Carter was the first female director of SHIELD.

She loves her aunt peggy (who, mind you, is totally different in the comics) so much she visited her constantly while she was in the nursing home.

Sharon was on the secret avengers. She spars with Valkyrie, Captain America, and Black Widow. She’s tough as nails.

She’s friends with Black Widow and Bobbi Morse and they have trivia night and that’s cute as heck.

tldr; she’s amazing. she’s complex and human and flawed and wonderful and doesn’t deserve any of the ire and ugly misogyny the fandom has thrown at her.
