“Well because I was in a lab. So that must mean something. It has to mean I’m either an experiment or was captured.” She sighs and relaxes her wings a bit letting them lay down.
She did try hard to remember, but it was never easy and she often came up with nothing.
“I remember the lab clean and spotless…and full of people in lab coats. I’ve been around this wasteland for about fifty years now and I have not found a single place that was truly like that.” She says looking at Betty more now.
“I mean yeah there are vaults that are relatively untouched. But this place.. well put it this way there was no rad roaches, no creatures that are now.. if it was a after war lab I think there would have been radiation affected creatures in the tanks but there wasn’t any.”
Adira slightly smiled at his offer. “You’d really try to help me?”
“But pre-war in particular? There are plenty of labs up and running now.” Betty wasn’t trying to be dismissive of her findings, simply rule anything else out. His brown eyes glanced to her wings as they moved, unable to help himself. Her mention of Vaults and radiation and those horrible large roaches… It wasn’t entirely out of the question. But…
“I used to work at CIT, the Commonwealth Institute of Technology. It was a prestigious school, a lab, some of the world’s best minds there… And now it’s housing labs to make synths. Synthetic humans. Not all terrible, but… robbing being of their agency. An attempt at slavery through robotics and manufactured humans. If you were a victim of their experimentation, then… yes, I want to help. And I know others who would lend a hand as well.”
Adira sighed as she looked at him. “I never heard of that place. Synths i have but not so much where they came from.” It wasn’t impossible, maybe they had some sort of other experimental division and that could be where she is from.
“I am decently sure I’m not a synth but I’m not sure what I am. She noticed that was looking at her wings, It was normal for those who have recently met her, her large dark purple and speckled wings drawing most of the attention when she was around.
"I do want to find out, and I’m willing if you know others. I just worry about getting caged up again. Can the others you speak about truly be trusted?”
“They’re working for the eradication of the Institute. But freeing synths and helping them become fully realized individuals first. Or at least as much as they’re able. The latest generation of synths are only known to be synths after death, unless they somehow know or give the game away. Many don’t even know they’re… artificially created.”
Betty shrugged, pacing as he spoke, looking around the place for anything of interest.
“You still might be one. But I suppose that’s neither here nor there… That is, unless, the institute is looking for you…”

To say he was damaged was a bit of an understatement. The best he could accomplish was his thermal vision, from his remaining eye, to watch West’s vitals as they slowly descended. West was dying and all he could do was watch, helpless. He was unsure if the distress call would work, as he couldn’t so much as lift the hood off his head, or move from his spot in the living room. Or speak. But he had to do something. He send the message to every terminal or Pipboy he had a link to, and some that he did not remember having. His best friend, his savior, was dying and he had been unable to protect him.
The man, and there had only been one, must have been watching them for some time. Betty later surmised that West had known the man, as the look on his face was utter terror, but confusion and recognition as the man sunk the blazing chainsaw into Betty’s back, just between his shoulder blades. Once Betty had sunk to his knees, the man smashed it into the side of his face, severing one side of his jaw, destroying one eye socket, causing the glass and metal orb to pop out, dangling by the wires. Betty saw blue for a long time, not noticing when the man put the hood over his head, but he heard everything. He sat paralyzed, like a forgotten doll in a child’s playroom, short circuiting, not feeling the involuntary twitching of his hands. The tremors subsided after running self diagnostics, all the while listen to West struggle and cry out. It wasn’t a normal fight. West was scared. He whined, begged, cried, and after a while stopped making any noise, except breathing. Heavy, labored, steady breathing. He was unconscious.
The man left, shutting the door to West’s room, passing Betty near the front door without so much as a glance. When West would be found, an over abundance of Med-X would be found with him and the Ripper used to dismantle Betty at the foot of his bed. The man was gone now, but Betty would be sure when he was repaired, he would find the man and kill him. He only hoped someone would find them before West was dead and the man got what he obviously wanted.
I see a lot of positivity for slow writers, but not enough for disabled writers. So here's some reminders

It wasn’t often that the Third Rail was wanting for a singer, since Magnolia practically never took a night off. On those very rare occasions, though, Anna had been known to step in to help her friend. There wasn’t an abundance of professional singers in the Commonwealth and she would be lying if she said that she didn’t sometimes miss performing.
Whether it was the fact that it was new songs with a new singer or just her sheer magnetism, she could feel every eye in the old subway station glued to her until she bowed to take a break. It was difficult not to chug the glass of water Charlie put in front of her as she approached the bar. She didn’t dance like this every night anymore and she could feel it.
Betty wasn't one to frequent bars. The whole not really needing to eat or drink because of the body he had built himself was... suspicious to most people. But Goodneighbor seemed different. Hopefully.
No one had yet noticed the beer he was peeling the paper label off was still full.
"That was some performance," Betty said to the woman trying not to look as if she'd come out of the Mojave with an empty canteen. His senors could read her dehydration and perspiration levels, her heart rate.
"You must love it." Tactfulness was something he was attempting to work on. That was the best underhanded compliment he could manage.
"And I thought this town was all about unity and acceptance?" Betty gave the obvious synth a raised eyebrow. Nick was dressed like some detective in old movies Betty used to watch when he was Isaac, before the War. But that was a long time ago...
He didn't care, one way or another what Nick's job was and didn't think for a moment that was the issue. He'd spent a little time in Diamond City, not very long after that newspaper was spouting that hateful hogwash about synths. CIT had turned into something completely different from when he was there... But he had used their new technology to his advantage. Killed a few people to get to it.
"Haven't seen someone looking like you dressed so well." The cyborg was a little suspicious, unsure if coursers were after him or not. He knew he had someone looking for him... A part of him hoped so anyway.
Nick's automated memory was a double-edged sword: some things he deigned as important he'd remember in perfect, sharp detail, but other things (names and faces he didn't deign as necessary at the time) ended up entirely blank.
This face was one of those-- the detective had a gut feeling he'd seen this person before, but it didn't make it out past the synthetic organs. Still, that greeting sent a little alert off in the back of Nick's head. There's the old gumshoe's instincts. "Flatterer," he answered in a low rumble. "Not used to getting compliments out the gate here. I'm more used to, uh..." Nick glanced down at the balled up trash that had been thrown at him less than a minute ago. Somebody's crumpled cigarette pack. Cute.
"By 'someone like you' you mean... a Midwesterner, right?" Playing coy was always a good way to get answers.
"That's where that accent's from?" Betty's mouth, just the corner, turned up in a smile. A teeny tiny smile, but obviously he was amused. Someone like Nick playing coy, someone looking like Nick brushing that kind of callousness off. Fucking humans thinking they deserve everything. Betty had a very different perspective on what he used to be. One of the reasons he changed his name.
"I'm terrible with accents. I've lived in Boston my whole life. Though my parents were determined I not speak like the majority of the population here." Betty sounded like he was from California almost. That was by design, having a speech tutor. Not that his parents cared so much that they even knew he'd pick up on his tutor's accent. As long as he didn't pronounce 'Harvard' like a steamroller had flatten that 'A' into the pavement, they didn't seem to care. Now his 'O's drifted like balloons getting away from him. He liked it.
And those 'O's were apologizing all over the west coast in murderous robobrains. He didn't like to think about that.
"What's your name, friend?" Betty lifted an eyebrow, curious, his smile almost gone. That was the first time... maybe ever he'd even mentioned his parents to someone. Why? And why this guy? He hadn't even told West anything about his old life once he started to remember it.
Of course she sounds like Anna. It only makes sense.
