sometimes when we have to do case briefs of clients (who are all domestic violence survivors) we have to read through screenshots of texts and statements etc from their abusive ex partners and really common thing i noticed is a lot of the men āwarnā their wife/gf that they wonāt hesitate to āretaliateā with violence if theyāre āprovokedā like there will be texts like āi give as good as i get if u treat me like shit iāll treat u the sameāĀ āyou throw a punch at me and Iāll retaliate and if you think iāll hold back cos youre female youre wrongā and their excuse for their violent behaviour (which has usually lasted years) is that they were defending themselves or that the woman abused them first but itās so obvious that these men were itching for a chance to beat the shit out of their gfs and any excuse would do, like one guy punched his gf in the face and ribs and smashed glass in her face bc she had āhitā him, but all she had done was like slap him on the arm after she found out he was cheating on her so he was likeĀ āsweet I get to beat the crap out of her nowā and he didnāt even hide the fact that she hadnāt actually hurt him, in his statement he was likeĀ āshe slapped me so I retaliated, what else should i have doneā but he very obviously wasnāt hurt or scared or trying to defend himself, there was no reason to retaliate other than it was an opportunity for him to bash her and he thought he could finally justify it (even though heād been more subtlety abusing her for months previously)
