Fun fact: from what I have gathered, when an artist calls something a sketch, a doodle, or “quick”, 90% of the time it actually means “I did not put in the maximum possible amount of effort and i am a fraud as an artist” even if the work was like. 4hrs and a completed painting.

okay so shen jiu and jiang cheng's names get thrown together sometimes when discussing mxtx antagonists and i just wanna put my two cents into it bc i have opinion. im gonna start of that i like shen jius character better than jiang chengs, not in the fact that im like "omg he's such a good guy" but as in i personally find him more interesting (yes even with how little og!shen qingqiu content we get) aka im probably gonna be biased.

so first things first, shen jiu is a worse person than jiang cheng. i mean i dont think i need to go into details as to why, and a lot of the reasons why shen jiu is worse is because he's smarter and has more of a reason to be a shitty person, which makes him dangerous.

but their biggest differences is that shen jiu is completely self-aware, he knows exactly how shitty he is AND he doesnt regret any of his shitty actions. in the 79 extras, sj even says that he was born wicked and twisted. and to be fair to him, he never really does anything to mask it. he publicly abuses luo binghe more than the rest of his disciples, he allows others to bully him. he favours the female disciples because of his hatred from nearly all men. he's never actually subtle in his shittiness.

meanwhile, jiang cheng would murder your friend if he thinks he had a good enough reason for it, not explain that reason, and then try to blame wei wuxian for why he did it. he thinks he's righteous in his actions, even though nothing he does is at all justified. he genuinely thinks he's a good person who's been wrongly hurt by a cruel world.

shen jiu, in PIDW when binghe comes back from the abyss, is not a redeemable character but mostly because he doesnt want to be redeemed. i think if ygy had found shen jiu quicker, or he hadnt be sold as a slave to a literal psychopath, he could have had a chance to only be a vaguely shitty person who maybe made too many snide comments. jiang cheng on the other hand has never been self aware in his life, i mean he had 13 years to come to terms with the fallout of his and wwxs relationship but spent most of his time obsessing over him like a maniac. and you can exactly be redeemed if you dont think you need to be in the first place
