I will not waste time disputing whether there were people on tumblr who took social enforcement of moral purity too far, but what was actually happening was different. A bunch of trans women were noticing that a bunch of tumblr-popular feminists were laundering TERFs thusly: - tumblr-popular feminist is mutuals with many TERFs and reblogs all of their somewhat-less-offensive content - that content gets reblogged by people who follow the tumblr-popular feminist - the TERFs start to develop a reputation of not being TERFs, because people remember them only in association with their less-transphobic content - sometimes TERF dogwhistles and TERF talking points are getting picked up in those circles too - trans people feel less safe, because a bunch of ostensibly not-transphobic progressive/lib/feminist tumblr communities are all becoming associated with TERFs... - ...and whenever they complain about it the response is something like the above - ...until eventually the official narrative is all about trans people policing reblogs, not trans people documenting transphobia and deplatforming TERFs Like, @kiefbowl is an out and proud TERF. And I know that not because I obsessively check every tumblr, but because I am a trans person in community with trans people. And in her post, she's misrepresenting her own position. Reminder to multigender people (and trans people in general, but this came up on the multigender survey so I'm addressing multigender people in particular) that you can't "transition to become intersex." You can absolutely transition to have mixed sex characteristics, or both a penis and a vagina, or whatever other transition is best for you, but if you're not intersex you shouldn't refer to yourself that way. Intersex people have repeatedly explained that it's inaccurate and offensive to claim you're "transitioning to intersex," don't do that.
