Hi love…

It seems easy to pretend nothing happened, but it’s not.

And why should anyone pretend nothing happened?

Because there’s the fear that, once you stop and really think about it,

you won’t be able to control it anymore,

and it all spills over into anger and the deepest sadness,

because yes—you have to be there.

Always present in us.

Like when a new ice cream flavor comes out and I think you’d like it.

Or when I see something—anything—that reminds me of something you had,

or something you once said.

You can’t imagine how strange it feels when I speak of you in the past tense,

like saying “where he used to work” instead of “where he works.”

I never want to say that extra word that makes it clear

I’m talking about someone who used to be and now is not.
