Once the sound of opening folders was heard, supervillain sighed heavily. They figured that killing hero would have to be planned out, which needed time, and of course, they don’t have such a valuable thing. That wouldn’t stop them though. Nothing did.
Opening the doors towards the outside world, supervillain inhaled, then exhaled. The scent of smoke disturbed their calm mind, but that wasn’t as important as the task at hand.
They recently got a message from the mastermind that hero has been in a few… tight ties with someone, and for some reason, mastermind had thought it would be a good idea for supervillain to know first before giving the information to other villains. As much as supervillain tries to stay away from the business hero and villain has, the superior criminal still managed to be in the middle of their tightrope.
Not too far away, an explosion was heard. Hearing this was like an everyday thing to supervillain. They walked through the streets of the so-called ‘dark side’ of the city until they reached the famous part of Metropolis.
Would you look at that, a building on fire.
Supervillain was about to shrug it off until they saw a glimpse of the hero, the same hero who had returned their younger brother. The hero saw them too, but continued to rush toward the building in fire. Jackpot.
Supervillain watched as the screams of civilians and collapsing walls unraveled. They jumped into the flaming building and searched for the hero.
“Let me go! I only— Ack—”
Supervillain raised a brow and went to the direction of the voice. A group of people, who seemed like teenagers, were holding the hero hostage. The criminal expression was both confused and angry.
Hero was… hero. They shouldn’t be under the hands of low-life teenagers but at the same time… that was supervillain’s target. The hero whom they planned to kill but was ever so bluntly interrupted.
Supervillain carefully followed the group of teenagers into a dark alleyway. They made sure none of the thugs would see them.
One of the teenagers, who looked the oldest, ripped out the gag out of hero’s mouth. He crouched down to the hero and roughly held their hair against the wall. “Listen here hero, you give us the code to the hero agency, and we’ll let you go, unharmed.”
Hero grit their teeth. “And if I don’t?”
The teenager punched the hero’s cheek. “We’ll tell villain, the one you’re stuck in ties with, about your little sister. I heard she’s from Springville elementary school. Which is not far from here.”
Hero widened their eyes, and so did the supervillain. Turns out, hero has a little sister who goes to the same school Jax(supervillain’s younger brother) goes to.
“Ugh, this is getting boring, why not torment hero right now and then negotiate?” One of the teenagers whined, grabbing a bat into her arms.
The oldest got up and grinned. “Ladies first.”
“Now the real fun begins..” the girl trailed off, clutching onto the bat tightly. As much as supervillain hated hero’s guts, they couldn’t bear to leave hero there, beaten up by a lame group of teenagers.
Once the girl was finished, she swirled the bat with her hands. “Say, if we took hero to villain like this, how would he react?”
“He doesn’t like his business being interrupted by feeble teenagers like you.” Supervillain suddenly said, coming from the shade. The group of teenagers backed a few steps. The oldest teenager sweat dropped. “Oh supervillain..! How nice of you to join us…?”
Supervillain scoffed. “You wish. I’m actually here for..”
In a swift second, the superior criminal drop kicked the teenager, picking up the gun spattered on the floor. Supervillain looked amused. “I have to say, I’ll give you credit for trying to pull the secret gun-on-the-pocket trick, unfortunately though, I know all of the tricks in the book.”
“Y-You..!”
Supervillain sent the girl a death glare. She grit her teeth and the group of teenagers scurried away, not daring to challenge the criminal. “One day, I’m going to get you for sure!” She said before running away.
Supervillain rolled their eyes. They didn’t have an ability but they sure did have high intelligence. The criminal threw the gun to the side, it was useless anyway. “Why… why did you..” hero coughed “..save me?”
Supervillain sat next to the hero. “That teenager said you had a little sister, was it true?”
Hero glanced away the criminal. “Yes, I do.”
The criminal knew something would prevent them from killing the hero, but didn’t expect hero to have a little sister. If they killed the hero right then and there, the child would be an orphan, and there was too many orphans out there trying to live their life without a parent or guardian.
“Mastermind had also told me you and villain had some business, in which it consisted of him threatening your wealth and family. He doesn’t know your only family is your little sister, does he?”
Hero nodded. They knew supervillain was smart enough to figure that out. “I’ve been trying my hardest to not let villain get near my sister, or even know who she is.”
“How about we make a deal?” Supervillain asked, facing the hero. “If it’s something about giving you a code or information…” hero trailed off, remembering the group of teenagers.
“No I don’t need that,” the criminal started “Information is easy to get.”
Hero raised a brow. What did supervillain want then?
“Take Jax to school tomorrow, and in exchange, I’ll cut the ties you have with villain.”
Hero’s mind spurred in many directions. Should they trust supervillain? Villain, as far as hero knew, could read minds and manipulate people, how could someone like supervillain, with no ability, convince him otherwise?
“But villain has telepathy, how would you convince him to cut ties with me?” Hero asked, desperate for an answer.
Supervillain smirked. “I’m not called a supervillain for nothing you know. I can’t tell you how, but I have my ways.”
For a moment, hero was optimistic. “Only for tomorrow?”
“Now that you mention it, how about for the whole week? Villain is no person to be easily convinced.”
Hero had thought about it before replying, “I am free until ten am, so I’ll take Jax to school every morning for the whole week. Just promise me this,” hero stopped, glancing at supervillain.
“Don’t get yourself killed for trying to help me. It’s usually my job to do that but…”
Supervillain took out a knife and sliced the ropes around hero. “You don’t need to finish the sentence, I already know.”
For the first time, somebody had actually saved hero. “Thank you.” they said, not sure if supervillain was willing to accept it.
The criminal got up and walked away, putting on the trench coat that had fallen when making their entrance. Before supervillain actually left, they stopped to tell the hero, “I saved you because I didn’t want another child to become an orphan.”
Hero had to process the criminal’s words, before finally realizing. The supervillain must have had a soft spot for children. Hero smiled, perhaps the superior villain wasn’t so cruel after all.

Mannerisms, in this case, are the little details that are unique to each character of your story! These are perfect ways help the reader know more about your character’s personality without needing to read through multiple sentences of description or dialogue. Mannerisms also become incredibly useful when you need to convey things like social status, upbringing, mental health status and how they interact with the world/people around them.
There are hundreds of unique ways to use mannerisms, for example linking one character to another despite their lack of interaction in the story. The dialogue and description might point to Character A having never met Character B, but they might share the same mannerisms, which would hint to some kind of past link between the pair.
How much space do they take up? Do they spread out when they sit or stay curled-up? Do they flail their arms to gesture? Do they speak loudly or quietly? Who listens when they speak up? Do they make a sound when they move?
How does your character sleep? What position? Do they sleep restlessly or soundly? Do they prefer covers, or do they sleep without?
How does your character greet people? Are they welcoming or reserved? How genuine are they being?
How much do they mirror others? Do they mirror everyone? (Mirroring is a subconscious behaviour where two+ people in a conversation will copy one another’s body language. This usually means there is a connection of some kind being made. Lack of / exaggerated mirroring might indicate towards a mental disorder or other (ex: personality disorder, neurodiversity, anxiety etc)
Which part of their body is the most expressive? Does your character use their hands a lot or do they tuck them away? Do they need movement to ground themselves (swaying, rocking, fidgetting…)?
Who would your character turn to in a group of people for comfort? Would they acknowledge that person more? Would they engage in a conversation with only them or would they just glance their way?
Do they have a re-occuring habit to indicate a mood? Do they crack their knuckles when excited? Do they bite their lip ring when angry? Do they look at their hands when sad?
How do they gesture? Do they speak with their hands? Do they point, nod or use their eyes to show something? Which movements are conscious, and which aren't?
Do they have a comfort item or person? Is there something they always think of? Is there something they hold with care? How much do they value that thing more than others?
How would they react to another person’s misfortune? Would their eyes light up? Would their heart hurt? How genuine would they feel? How genuine would they act?
Is there anything that makes them OOC (out of character)? (This is a good thing! One tiny OOC aspect can make a huge impact on that character) Perhaps they’re cruel but love cats? Perhaps they’re known for being the kindest but smile when they think of something tragic? How often do they act strangely? Do they do it in front of anyone? Do their actions indicate this or solely their thoughts?
I hope this helps you develop your characters! If you have anything to add, feel free to do so!
A always having the key to B's home/apartment and constantly showing up without notice, even when B isn't necessarily home. Of course, B is okay with this, but it's always a surprise to come home from work and find A already watching a movie on their couch.
B struggles with social anxiety and sometimes has difficulty making certain phone calls. A has no problem making these calls on their behalf.
Pretending to be jealous/sulky when the other hangs out with another friend for a day.

Turning their whole body to face the boy, they replied "Lost? What do you mean? Where are your parents?"
"They passed away a long time ago. My older sibling takes care of me now."
"Oh..." They trailed off, crouching down to the boy "Why would you want me to take you to supervillain's lair then?" hero whispered, ignorning the questions from the crowd.
"Because," the boy whispered "Supervillain is my older sibling."
Hero didn't believe it at first, but the way how similar the kid and supervillain looked, hero was convinced.
Hero grabbed the child's hand and rushed their way out of the crowd of flashing camera's and reporters.
Remebering the way to supervillain's base, due to a sidekick accidently going there, they went into the side of the city where criminal rates striked the highest.
The hero agency had warned hero about the extreme dangers there and how the government couldn't take back what was rightfully theirs due to supervillain striking a deal with the governor.
But, that was none of hero's business. All they had to do was drop off the boy here, and go on with their day.
"Thank you for leading me here, kind hero!"
Hero couldn't help but smile at the boy. "You're welcome, I'll get going now." hero waved goodbye to the boy. He waved but then stopped when he saw something approach hero.
"Watch ou-"
Hero turned around without a second thought, and bumped into somebody.
The two fell to the ground.
"I knew it. My today was going too smoothly…"
Hero immediately recongized the voice as soon as they heard it. Supervillain.
"Supervillain!!" the boy exclaimed with happiness as he rushed to his older sibling and hugged them.
"Jax? What are you doing out here?"
"I forgot to tell you we had early release today, and got lost while trying to go back home but I asked this person to lead me to your lair," he pointed at hero.
"Thanks to them, I got here safely hehe."
Supervillain stared at hero with darkened eyes. Hero noticed the criminal staring at them and scratched their head.
Jax then faced supervillain who switched to smiling in a quick second.
"Can we have chicken strips and mac'n'cheese for dinner?"
Supervillain chuckled. "Sure, as long as you complete all of your homework."
"I will!"
Jax got onto supervillain's back and imitated a train. "Cho cho!"
Hero watched as the two laughed, smiled, and made jokes. Hero felt like they were the first person to see this miracle, but duty calls.
Back at supervillain's lair, the two were now having a conversation. "I only have to do a coloring match, that's all."
"I see, and did you have fun?"
"Mhm! I got to play tag in recess!" Jax replied. Supervillain chuckled “Oh boy, do I miss recess…”
There was a moment of silence before supervillain spoke up.
"So... I thought I told you to stay away from the heroes. What happened?"
Jax laid his head on supervillain's hair. "You always told me that, but hero didn't seem like a bad person, so I kindly asked them to lead me to your base."
Supervillain sighed. They were definitely going to kill hero for this.
"I'll have a little chat with hero, meanwhile, you go do your homework. How does that sound?"
Supervillain would probably be over-protective and open to stuff, and because he radiates oldest sibling energy, I feel like he would give advice, and try to support you in every way. We can tots ignore the villain side of him :D

The child watched from afar, glancing at heroes who were cuffing robbers.
Supervillain had always told them to stay away from the heroes but... they didn't seem like bad people.
The child went down the ladder, and went to the crowd of people that were surrounding the heroes. They easily went through the crowd, and tugged on of the heroes cape.
Putting up the innocent child look, they asked "Do you know where supervillain's lair is? I'm lost."
Okay. This has a lot of potential to be an extremely adorable scene, the hero slowly getting closer to the super villain due to his younger brother, as well as having the potential to be a dramatic scene. Simply amazing 🤩
I know right! For instance, hero can be like, w h a t ?or be like, oh yeah it’s this way and encounters supervillain while leading his younger brother to his base. Or it could be like supervillain interrupting the moment, and introducing his younger brother :D
The super villain would definitely try to kill the hero once his little brother is out of the picture, but would end up changing his mind is thanking you for taking him back. And your grade was fantastic! The super villain would definitely try to kill the hero once his little brother is out of the picture, but would end up changing his mind is thanking you for taking him back. Villain sends Hero memes on their day off. Anytime Villain sees Hero the first thing out of their mouth is “What did you think of the last thing I sent you? Funny right?”
