Headcanon #325
Whenever Shadow has a particularly rough day, he won’t—can’t—talk until he’s had time to unwind. Amy can always tell when that’s the case because it’s one of the few times he’ll initiate physical contact. She lets him rest his head in her lap and lightly scratches his quills until he’s fully relaxed. He was mortified the first time he fell asleep like that, but she assured him that she didn’t mind and it made her happy that he trusted her so much.
She did keep a book on her coffee table after that, though. She never had the heart to get up and wake him, especially when he purred in his sleep.
Amy frequently latches onto Shadow, but he handles it differently. Whenever she dozes off while leaning on his shoulder or clinging to his arm, she always wakes up later to find he’s successfully carried her to their bed without waking her so he can hold her and make sure she doesn’t get a stiff neck. She was embarrassed until he admitted that he found it cute that she never let go even in her sleep and he’d never once felt the urge to push her away.
Before she and Shadow got together, she’d never have believed someone would feel that way about her hugs.
