STRANGE SENTENCE STARTERS —— for the creative writer in you. Send these in and see what your partner comes up with as a scenario!
*These are completely interchangeable, they’re just in categories to make it easier for all of y’all.
FOR AMIGOS;
“How many times are you going to do that, exactly?”
“You were right. As per usual.”
“Sometimes it’s hard to see the lines you’ve drawn until you’ve crossed them.”
“You’re surprised because you have a soft spot for hot blondes.”
“Is that – that’s a naked Scarlett Johansson on your fridge.”
“You can stay, but for no more than two nights.”
“Please don’t look in this drawer. Please.”
“I told you not to pick him up, he’s very sensitive.”
“Yes. I might have given you rabies. But in my defense, that’s ridiculous and I didn’t.”
“I’m sorry, my cell phone data coverage does not cover the bullshit zone you’re in.”
“Hey! Give me your pants. Quick, give me your pants.”
“No, I’m serious. Stop it right now or I won’t give you the last cookie.”
“You think I’m kidding. But I’ve never been more serious about anything in my entire life.”
“How much would a stripper cost and why so much?”
“I’m going to buy you a drink. Next week. On Thursday. When I get paid. Can you swing this one?”
“Hippos are hungry, hungry! And you are considerably larger than a small piece of lettuce!”
“When I was little, I used to be afraid of mummies. And now look at me. I love dead people!”
“I don’t even miss my ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, I just miss my glockenspiel.”
“It happens to everyone, you just sell your skirt for some coke.”
“Please do not pull your pants down in front of baby Jesus.”
“That’s not the phrasing you want to use.”
“Because nothing says heterosexuality like a gold sash.”
“Please don’t take it out on my boobs.”
“When it gets really windy I look like a bizarre combination of Marilyn Monroe and Cousin It.”
“We have to change our names and run away to Mexico. It’s the only way. Adios.”
“How much money do you have on you?”
“Please tell me that’s a raisin and not a tiny hamster shit you’re eating.”
“Life is a lot better when you put things on your head.”
“For someone who’s not very deep, I’m incredibly not shallow.”
FOR LOVERS;
“I need you to remind me what it feels like to love you.”
“I love you. What? No I don’t. Forget I said anything.”
“I need you to tickle my feet but like, sexually.”
“If we got married, would I have to take your last name? Or could we just make up a new one?”
“I don’t think I can do this anymore.”
“I heard you say his/her name in your sleep last night. Want to explain or should I just leave?”
“I want to spend the night with you tonight. But I also want to sleep on your side. And without you on the bed. So technically I just want your bed.”
“Please don’t be proposing to me in an empty parking lot.”
“Stop saying you’re sorry, you stupid fucking broken record. It’s done.”
“I’m not jealous, I’m curious. About the things you were doing. With him/her. Without me.”
“Your mother’s looks could kill. Actually, are you sure they haven’t before?”
“If you’re breaking up with me tonight, can I at least eat first?”
“Stop sweating. It’s not attractive during sex, and it’s not attractive now.”
“Are you – are you checking me out? In the line for the confessional?”
“We have to go. I might have told your mom I’m pregnant. I don’t know why I said that. I’m not.”
“So what you’re saying it that you’re snorting sugar to get excited for sex.”
“My dog licks better than you do.”
“But through every stupid thing you do and say – and those are a lot, by the way – I love you.”
“I don’t care if you’re growing another head. I’ll talk to both of them. I love you.”
“And I’d take fifty years of not talking to you for just a day of doing so. I promise that’s a compliment.”
“I don’t want to hide this anymore. I’m not some dirty little secret, you American Reject.”
“This is a bit too dramatic for my taste, so can we skip it and have sex instead?”
“I don’t want you to think of me as your personal sex toy.”
“Thanks and all, but that makes me feel like a low-class escort, so.”
“A kiss in exchange for every nice thing you say about me. Deal?”
“Promise me you’re not like him/her. I need to hear it from your mouth. Promise me.”
“Look, I’ve had my heart broken before. I’m not ready to let you in just yet. Anywhere.”
“Don’t leave me here. Anywhere else, okay, but not here.”
“I wish I could say that was the worst sex I ever had, but I’ve had worse.”
“I just blew you. Could you look a little happier about it?”
“I’m attracted to shiny things, so if it looks like I’m staring at your chest, it’s because I am.”
FOR TEXTERS;
[text] This is upsetting my poop.
[text] Hey, are you up? If you’re not, can you wake up? I need some help.
[text] So it involves feces and large birds.
[text] She said that to you? Why?
[text] Please come back. I miss you.
[text] What are you good for if you’re not gonna bring me ice cream?
[text] Can you ignore that last text? It wasn’t meant for you. I’m sorry.
[text] …did you just send me a nude?
[text] FUCK OFF YOU ONE-EYED WHORE.
[text] I don’t know why I said that.
[text] Leave it to you to fuck the simplest of requests up.
[text] Do we have to go to their wedding? He’s only my first cousin.
[text] How much does ‘I love you’ mean to you?
[text] I am not stalking you. But you should do something about your bathroom, it’s gross.
[text] Please. I need this so badly.
[text] I trust you completely.
[text] I’m a genius. You’re a peasant. Everything makes sense again.
[text] Hey, buddy! Got like, five hundred bucks I can borrow? Times ten.
[text] She lost it. She completely lost it. She said her uterus was attacking her bone marrow.
[text] I will not get you donuts.
[text] Please? I love you.
[text] I think I’m gonna go to sleep now, but you keep thinking that.
[text] I can’t say this out loud. They might be listening.
[text] I never meant to hurt you. I didn’t think he’d duck when the ball came at him, I’m sorry.
[text] You’re cute.
[text] I just need you to understand how important you are to me.
[text] Fuck off.
[text] Okay. Guess we’ll leave it at that then.

missjoohyun:
Rose was no stranger to courtship. At this point it had been one of the things that made her want to leave to city. She didn’t find the allure of a strange man with bold words and even bolder intentions attractive. Yet here she was, completely entranced by this man, this stranger. Her mind went blank as if it were constantly trying to find an excuse to dislike him, a habit that had formed with past suitors. His stature was tall, and that wasn’t new, but something about it made her think about where she would fit next to him. His smile was one she would have deemed narcissistic and utterly pretentious had she been in the city, clearly associated with a certain class. Yet she found it to be the exact opposite, only wanting to see more of it. And his eyes had grabbed her attention more than anything. How long had she been lost in them? Just enough for her to know that he was more honest than he let on and more accepting than she’d ever come to realize.
Suddenly things were becoming unfamiliar to her, like why her cheeks were getting warmer and her stomach felt as if it were constantly knotting itself up. Why her own words were caught in her throat and her hands too stubbornly fixed around her cup; she didn’t know the reasoning behind any of it. What she did know was that it must have been because of him and whether she admitted it or not, she oddly liked it. She liked his blunt words and clear intentions. What made her even more nerve wracked yet simultaneously intrigued was that without even knowing her name or who she was or where she was from, he’d taken an evident likening to her. Genuine. Before properly meeting him, she had already concluded he was genuine. Maybe that was why she was still gazing at him with an awe that could only be meant for a certain kind of person.
"Well I’m sure Rose would love to tell you all sorts of stories, my good sir, she has lots!” boasted a sister, giggling at how the woman in question was now turning shy and shifting her gaze to her lap. Thankfully, Rose didn’t need to say anything for her siblings to take an obvious social cue and graciously excuse themselves for the night. Even as the trio stepped out of the small pub, the two left at the table could still hear, “Maybe we’ll meet Hansel!” The small scene earned a sheepish laugh out of her, easily breaking her cold facade. More than anything, she didn’t want to push the gentleman away. Why she wanted him closer was a question she would never be able to answer with words.
"I should warn you that my stories are more boring than anything you might ever hear in your lifetime, sir, but I would not mind sharing them with you if you would still like to listen. Though I can assure you I have ones that don’t involve my sisters— not all of them, at least…" Again, she found herself looking at him, mesmerized and enchanted. She wanted him to listen as much as he wanted her to speak. It wasn’t curiosity or simple politeness, that much she could figure out. With a boldly curt nod, she gestured for him to sit, the mention of Hansel still ringing in her ear. "Do you believe in such a story? Someone like that must be created from tall tales. The city is full of them." The last part she mumbled to herself, not yet wanting to reveal exactly where she was from. However that was part of the allure, at least with him. She wanted him to know, maybe not now, and she wanted to be the one to tell him stories that went beyond is expectations. Impressing him, is that what she wanted to do? The girl before him, yes, but not the girl from the main city. But that only made her wonder, it was the same for him, wasn’t it? As much as her attention had latched onto him, a habitually suspicious part of her had already begun to warn her that the gentleman here and now might be completely different to who he really was to the rest of the world.
How was it possible for a woman that was able to captivate him in such a prevailing level of beauty have a boring story? Bore him not, not in the slightest flick of a wrist or falter of the mouth, not if it were to be her wrist, her mouth, her eyes, oh, no, she could never bore him. Not in a million years would he ever get tired of the curve of her cheek that seemed to be made for the palm of his hand, to be held, to make the admiration of her eyes that much more intimate, that much more longed for by the man who could now feel his heartbeat in his hand, as if it responded to his rather disconcerting thoughts. And to keep such thoughts to himself was something that he was smart enough to know to do, unlike his youthful demeanor that he knew must have spoken of arrogant carelessness and disdain that struck cords of revulsion among those that failed to be--for a lack of a better word--an admirer.
The ring of his name sounded in his ears of recognition in a habitual mannerism that he thought to be just a thing that humans and fables alike had grown in the habit of. It cut through his thoughts and the giggles that followed suit had earned his attention, his eyes having lingered on the door for a second too long as the still nameless woman had started to speak and he missed the first couple words in his dazed state. And what other kind of state was he supposed to be pulled in, if not a trance of euphoria, when her lips and eyes almost sang to him the most cheerful tune he hadn't really heard in his decades of life. The attraction was unspeakable. Ineffable, even, and Hansel used that word to describe very little--the way that hunting rushed the blood in his veins, the way that the thought of Gretel and his father lifted his hopes and spirits, and now the way that the girl who glowed of a pink aura caused his insides to twist--it was as if he was gifted with a miracle for the hard work that he did. God had never been a man that Hansel focused neither his mind nor his heart on, but he was grateful all the same for the unearthly blessing that he was presented with.
Lust, love, admiration, desire, what was his feelings towards the girl that enamored him in such a boyish state of pure idiocy? He didn't know, and spent no more than two cents of his thoughts on the subject. It was irrelevant what emotion it was for it all had the same affect, the same captivating hold on his hands, his heart, his mind and everything that it had to do with it. As she spoke, he looked at her as if he were a child that had only first discovered what beauty was. As if he were admiring the flowers of the forest as he so often did as a child, rather than a human being that, as he would have readily admitted, was just as beautiful as the tulips, lilies and snowdrops that grew on the blanket of grass that welcomed him into the forest.
How he would have loved to take her there, to let her see the vibrant environment of nature that would have welcomed them both with a beauty that could not compare to the one that Hansel laid his eyes upon in a subconscious state of focus, yet it took a moment or so for her words to register properly. But when it did, oh, the most haughty and (what he hoped to be) alluring smile shone on his lips as he sat up straight on top of his seat, his arms folded over the table in a schoolboy feeling. Manners, politeness, it was all he could show to a girl that he shared what could be considered their first date together. If he wanted any more, he should show manners, he just hoped that it was that simple for someone that believed he was nothing but tall tales. He didn't answer right away, no, he couldn't, he had to relish in the moment of her disbelief for the reaction that would come after an introduction is one that he imagined should have been done in comfort. Instead, he called out towards the man behind the counter that Hansel had made great acquaintances with, a smile was present on his lips as he asked for two mugs of his favourite drink to be served to them.
"I think that the story is interesting. A brave man of courage that takes on the task of hunting women that do wrong. Witches. This place ought to be safe safe, should it not?" He spoke with his eyes on her, a lightness that radiated from them hinted at where he had planned for his words to lead to. "But enough about tall tales and false stories, miss, I want to hear the truth about you--with or without your sisters. But, please, make sure that the focus is on you for that is what truly captivates me, else I would be sitting here with someone of a different coloured robe, wouldn't I?" His tone dripped with one of playfulness and the curve of his lips only accentuated this spirit. "But I suppose it's rather strange and rude to exchange stories when we do not even know each other's names." He leaned forward on his arms, not so close that he would invade her personal space, but close enough so he could whisper words that he had intended to sound like secrets. "My name is Hansel Roth."
"I would be even more of a mess than I was if I were to come back for the sake of others; we both know how ridiculous that logic is. But at some point, I have to come back. Only on the condition that it's out of selfishness (and that I've payed tuition for school already)." - 하나
He blinked once, almost in an exaggerated matter so as to clearly display his confusion at the words. Coming back? Never would he have been able to come up of the idea of Hana returning. He hadn't realized until then that he didn't know where she could be that wasn't Korea. A blank slate came into his mind when it came to any talk of a different city and, for a few moments that he quickly disregarded afterwards, he was speechless. Yet in spite of where she could have possibly been, he was as shocked as he was capable of being shocked--which, admittedly, wasn't very much. News of his feelings returning gradually, the process only moving quicker with medicine, therapy and conscious effort was only terrifying and stressing for Kijoon, and so he distracted himself with words. Words that came from a woman that he previously deemed to be someone that was going to be left to him as a stack of notes that had already become a thin pile of trivial words.
And this set of--not so trivial words had shone with a feeling that he quickly deemed as, for a lack of a better word, bullshit. He was sure that they both knew how ridiculous it was to return to a country purely because of someone else. But Hana was someone that he remembered to only live for others. Despite her vain habits and materialistic ways, she was never one that found leaving or being left easy, and to have her completely fly away from the city of all her friends, Kijoon didn't know why he didn't already predict her coming back.
Though school, as it always seemed to be, was a far better reason and one that he had forgotten she was allowed to have. His teeth chewed on the flesh of his bottom lip as he eyed the words over and over, a series of thoughts rushed through his mind as he pictured both Hana in university but even more so him attending the classes. An easy set of fake transcripts claimed his graduation to be held in the early 2000s, but there was nothing wrong in making those degrees genuine, even if they would be based on yet another set of fake transcripts. Surely they'd allow a man of his age to attend, right?
A soft hum accompanied the selfishly grown self-interest in the note that was surely meant to have formed his thoughts about the girl coming back. But how many thoughts could he have on the subject when everything that he thought about it was simply that--she's coming back? The campus was big and the students were huge, he doubted that they would see each other at all unless Kijoon wished for it.
Would I? Lingered in his thoughts, Would I want to meet Hana after the harsh tongue of pain and sorrow berated her into leaving? He folded the papers in his hands and disregarded the question after he had quickly decided that to wish for another meeting was to wish for the complete destruction of his progress. She was better left as a pile of papers, one that subconsciously took the form of a girl as he grabbed a set of keys and walked out of his apartment with the intentions to come back a prospective student.

ksgxx:
too early.
those two words were the first thing that popped into her mind as she felt the nudge on her arm. groaning out a response, she pulled on the covers higher over her head as she turned to her side and away from the male’s foot nudging at her body. she had already woken up five times throughout the week for classes and there was no reason as to why she needed to wake up early (at least she was assuming that it was early) on a saturday, “go away.” pushing out her hand behind her from the covers, she motioned the male to get out of his own room.
slipping her hand back in, she curled her legs up to her chest as she tugged the blanket closer to her body. if she gave into the male and woke up, she’d probably regret and complain throughout the whole day into kijoon’s ears until it would fall off. tossing onto her other side, she pushed her face out of the blankets just to look at the male.
she had only woke up because she was still a ‘guest’ in this household and the announcement regarding his mother’s wishes for them to go grocery shopping for dinner tonight had caught her attention before she could drift back to sleep. sniffing a few times at the familiar aroma of her favorite tea, she looked up at him with a drowsy smile, “is that mine?” her fingers slowly pointed towards the two mugs sitting side by side by the bed.
knitting her brows, she shook her head as she clutched tightly onto the blankets and pulled it closer towards her stomach and looked up at him—-which was a good view on him—-not that she was thinking about it too much. never. she had never thought of the other with such thoughts, never.
"why not go by yourself? why take the weak old me with you to carry the heavy stuff? i’ll stay home with your mom and maybe replace your spot as her child," she joked lightly as she pushed out another drowsy but sheepish grin.
The girl's familiarly drowsy state hadn't fail to make him smile, as it always did when accompanied with spiteful words that all but made sense. He was used to it by now, the disheveled hair and mumbled words of childish irritation. Honestly, he had grown a favour of seeing her in such a state. In a chaste sense, of course, one that gave him the easiest access to blackmail, to teasing her wholly as a brother would his sister. And as if to reinforce to himself the innocence of their relationship, he reached over to nudge the girl's head gently with his knuckles, a small chuckle accompanying the juvenile action. "You're such a brat, why would my mom ever want me over you? I bet your parents like me better, too."
In a teasingly youthful manner that seemed to only be presented around the girl, he hung his tongue out, another laugh that was louder and fuller spilling out to further emphasize the fact that his words were void of any seriousness.
"Now come on and just spend time with me, you've been at school the entire week." The bridge of his nose crinkled briefly in a deliberate display of distaste, his eyes and hands soon focusing once again on the mug that was set on his bedside table. Fingers curled around the heated dish and he welcomed the bitter yet strengthening taste of the liquid that it held. "Besides--I bet you miss me." The corners of his lips curved up and his eyes flicked back towards the other, the irises of them radiated a seemingly infantile sense of mock. Sip after sip, the boy accepted each burning blanket of caffeine that only increased his energy--something that he doubted would have been enjoyed by the outwardly disgruntled latter.
After setting down his already half-empty mug that seemed to have drained in a matter of seconds, Kijoon set himself down on his bed so that he were sitting directly next to the girl, a clearly and senselessly mien of glee curved on his features. "We could even visit the place with the fountain, if that's what it's going to take to convince you."
Yeah, he didn't want to admit that the fountain was something he wanted to do, but if she wanted to as well--there was nothing wrong with trying, right? Besides, if it was in the sake of grabbing his favourite ice cream from the vendor near the fountain, he'd try anything.
gwonana
A sigh slipped past his lips, neither one of fatigue or annoyance but rather one of a contented admiration. The light in the child's eyes as he eyed the pictures on the page was one that impossibly lifted his spirits and almost caused a sense of nostalgia to resonate within him and the building despite the fact that he hadn't left yet. With cancelled orders and words of the building being on sale, the bookshop slowly but surely became limited of its resources. He noticed the people far more than he did before, his eyes having torn away from the mind-numbing screen of the computer that so often accompanied his handful of hours in the shop. The people that walked in greeted him with a smile and with a mention of his name, but Kijoon was filled with an inkling of guilt at the fact that he couldn't return the same intimate greeting and only offered what he could make of an apologetic smile, albeit unexplained.
He walked around the shop and ran his fingers over the spines of the books as he accompanied whichever of the customers took to his attention. Though the shelves were filled to the brim with books, it housed far more of the novels than it had previously in the absence of the illustrations that had been bought by the parents of children that feared they would no longer be able to read their books once the shop was closed down.
The boy that Kijoon found himself crouched down next to had his eyes fixated on a picture that told a typical story in just one shot, yet words still accompanied it on the opposite paper, along with a number of other ones sewed into the covers. "Prince Charming is a man to be admired, is he not?" Kijoon spoke softly, not in a manner of disdain but in a manner of friendliness that he rarely attempted beforehand. With subtle smiles and soft words of welcoming kindness, the fable himself found that it was beneficial to act in such a way and wondered why he hadn't thought of it earlier. An answer lingered in the back of his mind, one that he was almost afraid to reach and even more grateful for the childish babbles that left the boy in response to Kijoon's simple question. Yet he continued to listen with a feigned interest in the incoherent words that seemed to be of relentless admiration, one that was hopeful to see in a child so young. "Many stories like him hold the same kind of bravery--and sword fighting, if that is what you like from this one."
When the boy's eyes lit up at the mention of the latter option, Kijoon offered a chuckle and lifted himself up to lead the boy towards the section that the owner had intentionally saved for those tales--that ranged from picture books to novels--that told of fairytales and fables such as himself. With a name of his shop, he imagined it only to be appropriate that such a section would exist.
As Kijoon took out another thin book filled with what he remembered to be more pictures than words, the exhausting sound of the bell rang once again and he lifted his head to look at his new customer. Ah--this one wasn't like (most of) the others. This one he knew. When the little boy greedily grabbed the book from his hands, he took the action as permission to leave. And so he did, his footsteps now directed towards the recognizable customer. "Hey, Ana. Did you hear about the closing--getting your last handful of the goods?" He asked with a hint of mock in his words, the corner of his lips having curved up to make the display of amusement clear.
!!! changes, so many changes. i've been spending a lot of my time talking through a lot of changes/developments/progress/wtv for this character with a lot of people that are going to be involved, and rather than writing out an entire series to walk through these changes, i'm going to list them below and then roleplay which of those i choose to!! which is most likely none but hey, it's the thought that counts.
IF you want to roleplay anything from the list below because you feel like your muse can fulfill such a thing and/or you just want to, feel free to send me a message or like this post or write a starter or whatever the hell you feel like doing.
all ongoing threads can still be relevant if you want them to be but if i find that the story would be completely useless to play out, then i'll do something about it. but if you feel yourself that the thread will be irrelevant then just message me we can talk stuff out.
jikein:
There were many reasons as to why Gikwang could have been elsewhere but here. Fridays of his weren’t usually meant for clubbing (actually, no day of the week was meant for that), since he thought himself to be past that era of complete irresponsibility and whatnot came along with it. Twenty-five didn’t count as early twenties anymore, but then again the number didn’t matter. He had no argument to withhold – because there he was. In a club with people most likely significantly younger than himself, though appearance wise one owuldn’t be able to tell. Both a nuisance and something he could use to his own advantage. For now, it didn’t matter. It wasn’t like he headed to the clubs to riot amongst youngsters in the middle of the dance floor, more so for the atmosphere while quietly sipping his own drink. Funny, how places like this could be relaxing.
The downside of being at crowded locations during the end of a hard work week, had both to do with recognition and receiving attention for the wrong causes. Sure, he was used to it when it came to his job— that people whispered about it, yet loud enough for him to hear; but with a lot of alcohol consumed; in general people would become a lot more friskier and Gikwang always sat prepared with a closed fist. Second of all, his hair had become a main attraction for hammered teens – fun to poke at. Then it would be rather logical for him to seek refugee at the bar, as far from the center as possible. One could have argued about the point of coming here at all if acting like this, but nonetheless the point laid in whether or not Gikwang was enjoying himself. And he was; to some extent, until someone came along, feeling the need to interrupt him.
He pays no focus to his surroundings, merely it being him and his cognac until he hears a greeting, clearly meant for him since it’s so loud and straight in his ear. Okay, maybe it wasn’t excessively loud, but of course one would have to raise their voice to get anything forth when music and bass was— on another note, excessively loud. Conclusion being that he was becoming a bitter old man, or something like that.
Either way he decides that it would be better to pretending like he couldn’t hear it, even though it was clearly audible. The first greeting is fine to unintentionally ignore, but when a whole sentence follows, it becomes obvious that Gikwang can’t keep up with the act. Instead he sighs, both because he has no idea what the male (the voice belongs to one, at least) is talking about, even if it wouldn’t hae been surprising if the redhead had indeed been the man to ask for drugs. But not today, neither was he addicted in any way. A good buzz, and that was it. He is sure he has no connections with them, considering he can’t recognize the voice. Voices is the first thing he notices, first meeting or not.
Finally, he turns his head to the one beside him, looking thoroughly indifferent to their words even though it had been some kind of an accusation. Or well – other parties might have said so. Gikwang didn’t particularly care, yet made the effort to turn towards them, taking a glance before returning it to his glass, finishing it before replying. “Aren’t you quite the braveheart? Going up to people you haven’t had business with before, thinking they’re a customer of yours. Ah, I’m almost tempted to call you out to the guards.” He hums with a smile, oddly satisfied with being interfered with. Maybe because it was in the kind of position where he might have the upper hand, though dealers usually weren’t people to play around with. They had contacts Gikwang wouldn’t even want to see in his nightmares, reasons being why he was only teasing and wouldn’t get a guard or anything like that. Besides, he had bought before, so who was he to tell someone they were doing something illegal? They had something in common, both with illegal jobs. But that was none of a stranger’s business. ”Better luck next time, man. I already have my own dealer, and you’re not him.”
With the latter's response, a controlled yet just as juvenile smile curved onto his features. A lonely soul was he, one that fed off of other people and hooted in joy once it was given attention. The pitiful sorrow that ached in his bones and swam through his veins was one that he couldn't deny, one that he was almost thankful for despite the fact that the ache was from fatigued bones rather than sombre moods. How empty, was he, that he found a sense of fulfillment in a cynical smile accompanied by a set of words that were anything but welcoming? It was something, wasn't it, to be spoken to? There were countless conversations that slipped by his mind and all held the same essence of emptiness as the one that he found himself in, yet he couldn't walk away as he often would. He couldn't look for the proper customer, couldn't take a step off of the stool, if it were not for it supporting his weight it would be the floor and he knew that that would seem even stranger than the image he currently gave off.
Oh, how submissive he had become in the grip of alcohol, how his barriers have become weak to the bitter poison that held the facade of a sweet medicine in his state of sickness, luring him into the trap of addiction until it had him by the ankles. But why would he try to escape, in the first place, when the seductive fingers of whiskey, scotch, beer and everything in between and beyond danced on his tongue and on his lips to compensate for the joy that he lacked. Their dull sting that welcomed him back into the home of misery and acceptance sparked a fire inside him, the only evidence of such a thing shown in a sigh of contentedness that contrasted the emotion he felt he should have shown in accordance to the other's words.
He paused a moment before he had responded to the latter at the mention of the guards but quickly dismissed the possibility when the man's smile spoke a tale of such mock. Besides, his face wasn't one that was easy to forget and he figured that they both knew what that meant. With an ease back in his shoulders, he shrugged lightly. "How else are you supposed to get customers in a shit place like this." There was a breathless chuckle laced with his words as he reached over the counter to grab the drink he had previously abandoned. The deep colour of the liquid clung to his hands and he found himself unable to loosen the tight grip he had around the base of the glass. "You know what's weird--my customer is a dad, 32 year old man. Told me to meet him here. Bang up father, I'd say." The cold surface of the counter cut through his saturation of sarcasm and crushed him into a silence.
He focused his attention on the way that the crowd seemed to move in unison in response to the awful song that had been blasted in all of their ears for the past five minutes. He wondered, as he always seemed to find himself doing, how many of them truly enjoyed themselves. And with the topic bled into his thoughts, he wondered yet again what the latter found in the atmosphere himself. In response to his thoughts, Kijoon turned his head to look at the man with no words in mind, but instead with an overwhelming curiosity that eyed the boy's features in a sense of admiration. Whether it was in the features themselves or the fact that he resembled someone else that the admiration was previously meant for, he didn't know and didn't care as both the curiosity and admiration left just as quickly as they came.
"And why aren't I your dealer, anyway?" He continued, the filter that separated his thoughts and his mouth had disintegrated with each sip of his drink. "I mean, I need a new one now, just to have my boss cool his head about the lost one. And I've already got 5 grams with me, it's a win-win, isn't it?" Kijoon himself didn't know how serious he was and the intoxication only made it that much harder to decipher, but if the inscrutable intentions behind his words led to him gaining another customer, then so be it. A subtle playfulness now seeped into both his words and the smile he presented before the other. "What do you say? I'll be much kinder than your current one--promise."
[Is your ooc actually german?
No, but if that were the case it'd make writing about his childhood much more fun hmmmmm
lskyung:
give alise a pencil and paper and she could write a professional essay in under an hour, give her a simple task as painless as putting books on shelf and, well— the outcome was anything but perfect. it wasn’t wholly because she was lousy at alphabetizing, or organizing, or whatever she was doing, it was a matter of how tedious it became. then again, she didn’t see reason in trying to make it perfect because the bookshop wasn’t itself: small, plain, the complete opposite of orderly— hence currently trying the find a place for books on the crowded shelves. twenty minutes into it and she was already rethinking her life choices. especially this one when she thought it’d be a brilliant idea to volunteer at his bookshop. though, not entirely voluntary. the time spent went into her community service hours, so she couldn’t gripe like she wanted to. but still, it was free labor for him. free. alise still couldn’t wrap her head around that one, and that certainly didn’t stop her completely from fussing.
mumbles of random complaints was the only voice that filled the tiny space, not that she assumed he’d even try to acknowledge them, let alone her. running out of space on the shelf she was working on, she reached up to fit the book on the shelf above it. and alise could have sworn the last time she checked she was just shy of six feet, so why in the world was she having trouble reaching the top shelf?
feet perched up on the lowest shelf, eyes meeting with the edge of the uppermost, alise was sure now that this obviously wasn’t a place to shelve, but there was no where else to put the books and she hated the fact that he just let them be on the dingy carpet. besides, he’d had his back to her the entire time, he probably wouldn’t even notice. nonetheless, before alise could even get the book up there, the shelf she hung onto gave out and the left side fell, the items following, some plunging to the ground beneath her. she closed her eyes and waited, surely that caught his attention.
"What did you do this time?"
uh, was all she could muster before letting herself down, half of her bottom lip stuck beneath her teeth. “sorry.” she didn’t even try to look up, instead she distracted herself by kneeling to stack the books that had fallen. the idea of community service was not to vandalize, and here she was doing exactly what she got caught for.
Truthfully, having someone else work in the bookshop alongside him was a weird experience that he never planned to encounter despite the now hiring sign that he senselessly put up in the front window. It was even stranger for the girl to have been one of his customers in his other line of business. As a dealer he always made sure to have some sort of connection with the people that were willing to have one--and while this girl seemed to be the type for a business relationship, he didn't think that it would ever go this far. It was amusing more than it was weird, but he found some sort of satisfaction in seeing the girl work with books rather than people in clubs or an immense amount of drugs. He wouldn't complain about her, though, free help was the best he could get and he could always do with more rest.
If his time wasn't spent in the bookshop dealing with customers or cleaning up the messes that they've made, it was spent around either the classier or dirtier parts of Seoul that both housed the same level of addicts who found a refuge in his drug. It was a small vacation that he accepted with the consideration that it was his first in the seven months since he was offered the shop and even more since he was a drug dealer. It had almost been a year since he was free of the impatient messages and persistent begging that Kijoon felt, had he even been able to, he would have broken under the frustration and anger that he was sure their childish antics would have caused him.
With a small string of noises and vibrations that came from his phone, he was pulled out of his constantly repeated thoughts and snapped to the realization that his vacation was over. Kijoon was dragged into the world of misspelled pleads and increasingly disgruntled messages that somehow guided his steps to the back of the bookshop. With another scan at the messages, he grabbed the amount that was asked for and another few bags to stuff into a bag, that now secured in the inside pockets of his jacket.
A loud noise made itself outside and after making sure the storage door was locked, he eyed the scene of the girl surrounded with the books. Her answer only increased the underlying feeling of annoyance that was sparked by the vibrations of his phone, his eyes fixated on the girl as she attempted to fix what mess she had created.
"Forget it. I'll clean it later." He said after a moment, deciding that her trying to fix it would only further worsen the damage she made. So much for free help, he thought as he made his way to the door to grab Sunja's leash and after he had clipped it onto her collar, he turned towards the latter with his voice once again in the flat tone that it habitually held. "I need you to come with me--to watch Sunja while I finish a few things. I can't trust you in here--clearly."
"I wonder how transparent I am. I wonder if the people who made those promises see me better than I do. I wonder why they keep the promises when I'm happy but when the tears start to show, they start to fade. I don't want to wonder anymore. I want to shut down." - 하나
How could he forget the long hours of the night that were filled with heavy words of an immeasurable sadness, one that was seemingly impossible to have come from a girl of infinite optimism? Pity was rarely a feeling that he gave out given the fact that he despised it being directed towards him, yet he couldn’t help but feel the very thing for the girl. Only a fortnight into their strange relationship did it take before the rambles of worrisome thoughts and doubts entered into their conversations. He didn’t know what made it so that the girl thought he was any sort of outlet for her worries, and even now, he wouldn’t be able to figure it out, but it had happened and Kijoon provided her with empty words that he felt she would want to hear. Because, after all, she was never looking for advice, all she needed—as everyone else needs—are pretty words that advocated for the thought that lingered, the thought they wanted to be confirmed.
Yet it seemed that Hana was one that shone of her need for sweet words to a far larger extent than others. Even without his various years in observation of similar behaviours and distinguished factors of certain emotions and traits, Kijoon could already tell the type of girl she was. A cliche, one that loved cliches without realizing how big she was of one herself.
A closed book that was just as easy to read as an open one, one that swam of affectionate and shy words meant for loved ones but directed towards friends. With shallow relationships perceived as deep ones that she would refuse to let go of, what else would she have been setting herself up for than to be hurt? The corners of his lips curved upwards into what he thought to be a smile meant for himself, as if to display and convince his own mind that he could feel something despite the fact that he supposedly knew he couldn’t. How angry would she be at him, he thought with his smile having already grown wider in the small amount of time that he had used to wonder about the girl, as he so often did after these notes. What words of defensive spite would be thrown at him in attempts to prove him wrong?
There is no ending to wonder, Hana. He concluded in the midst of the questions that would never be answered. To shut down is to lose your heart. Kijoon imagined that the girl was sitting in front of him, her always wide eyes focused on him as he spoke his thoughts out loud and the reasons behind them, only for his logic to be questioned. But that’s what he enjoyed—proving himself to be true, his beliefs and values, it only made them so much more real. It is humane to wonder—to wonder is what sets us apart from animals, to question our surroundings and our purpose, our friends or family, it is what makes us human, makes us who we are. He would say, the light in her eyes all that he would need as a sign to keep going, to keep speaking as if he were teaching a class on his thoughts—whether what he believed was true he didn’t know, but he found that if he spoke with enough eloquence he would achieve the impossibly easy task of getting Hana to believe him. To shut down is to live without your heart, he would convince her, it is to walk around without the engagement of your surroundings, like a robot with a giant hole in its chest that cannot feel the sad emotions nor the happy ones.
"Ha, ha, ha." She lets out a sarcastic laugh, immediately stopping as she stares at him with her hazel orbs. The only reason why she was there is because of her friend, Rose. Since her older sister was not there, she decided to bring Joelle instead. "Ah, the train ride. It’s just weird that we both are here… face to face… again." She rests her elbow on the railing of the roof, nudging him with her other arm, laughing a bit. "Is she really that bad? At least you brought a date. My sister’s friend brought me here and I don’t know anybody here." She eyes the cigarette, reaching out of her pocket a small box full of them. She takes one out and takes out a baby pink lighter, lighting the cigarette quickly. She brings the cigarette up to her lips and takes a quick drag before pulling away while blowing the smoke out of her mouth. "True. This is why I came up here as well." She placed the cigarette in between her lips, inhaling deeply as she pulls the stick away, turning in her direction, blowing a ring of smoke. She giggles quietly, a dwindling cigarette sat between her fingertips, as she stares at the view. "I don’t look like the type to do this, huh."
"Maybe it's fate, that we're both here." The playful mock was still evident in his tone as he smiled through the cigarette that the corner of his lips took a hold of, his hands having busied themselves with the stream of texts that binged into his phone. "I suppose the universe is telling me that I should ask for your name." With his phone now stuffed back into the deep pockets of his dress pants, he took the white stick in between his index finger and thumb. A smile quickly spread over his lips the moment they were free of the cigarette and as he watched her light up her own, it only grew wider. "Not the type at all, love, you give off a more prim and proper vibe. At least that's what I labeled you back on our...adventurous ride." He shrugged, the hint of glee in their so-called exciting ride having given him an even larger sense of his fabricated amusement. He watched the end of his addiction disintegrate into a pile of ashes that he all but supported, his eyes almost entranced by the used up pieces as they fell over the edge of the building. Albeit his seemingly undivided interest, he managed to still talk towards the girl in the midst of it, as if he thought about what to say rather than where the ashes would go. "But I consider this as another reason as to why you are a much better date than the gray wall I asked instead--and another reason why I should ask for your name. Mine is Ki." He held out his free hand, a forced smile sat on his lips. "And yours?"
