     “Yes,  my handsome prince,  I am aware.”  He has to turn,  chin topping his collar,  so that he can look up the spiral staircase to where Yuri drapes so dramatically against the balcony,  dying of neglect.  Ferdinand fixes his mouth into a crooked curve winding all the way up to his cheeks,  and his hand stills where it grips his favorite quill pen,  missive only half-scrawled.  He confesses,  silently,  how amusing it is when Yuri bemoans himself like this,  and how heartwarming the plea for affection,  beneath it all. 

     Ferdinand leans back in his elegantly carved chair,  one arm strained over the back of it,  natural redwood creaking beneath him that echoes in the quiet night of his study.  His eyes slim to a challenging thin,  for this is a game he  likes  to play.  “Certainly you might survive a few moments longer,  if pressed … ?  You are so strong and resilient,  my love—and I would like to finish this letter,  if I may.”

          ❝ Must I be pressed? ❞    His descent is as swift as one so thoroughly wounded could manage, complete with wide eyes and the melodramatic swoop of the silken robe he’s donned.  Not missing a beat, Yuri perches himself half-sitting half-leaning against the desk, his sigh melancholic.    ❝ —By you?  By my duke, who names me love, and a prince most handsome, yet places my life below a letter? ❞    The glance he fixes that letter is pure disdain, though he makes no attempt to read the thing.    ❝ Must I be strong and resilient in this place? ❞

          With that, he steals Ferdinand’s free hand away in his  ( although he very much would have liked to steal the pen in his other hand to do away with, Yuri restrains himself to less malicious distraction ), to trace the rise and fall of his knuckles.    ❝ Perhaps I don’t want to be those things right now... ❞

          ❝ I might like to be something else.  Something... better. ❞

If someone’s got money and they want to get Yuri a gift that he won’t want to get rid of, a good go-to is jewelry. Necklaces and brooches, specifically. Of course, something with thought and meaning behind it (the color reminded me of your eyes, I thought the cut would look good on you, etc.) is always preferred to a gift that simply amounts to some expensive rocks that are being thrown at him, but still... he can’t deny that he adores the way those pretty rocks look regardless. That said, with the exception of a small handful of gifts that happened to strike a chord with him aesthetically, even expensive gifts given without thought have, most of the time, been sold at a later date.

His favorite stones include sapphires of the more common color varieties, yellow topaz, white fire opal, deep red rubies, and pearls that are either dark or light with lavender overtones. And when it comes to the design of the jewelry, the more intricate and detailed the better. Yuri truly enjoys wearing art, where you can tell the person who crafted it put skill and passion into making the piece.

With that, I’m gonna get some more rest. My tummy feels really bad too, of all things. Then, I will do some creative writing.

First day back at work was horrible. The only other person with experience who was supposed to be closing with me last night disappeared into the bathroom, and stayed there for about two hours before it was decided I should call an ambulance, despite him telling me he didn’t need one. The paramedics come and go in about ten minutes, laughing as they leave ‘he’s all yours haha’ because the guy smoked too much pot on his break with one of the non-closers who was already long gone. But I’m so mad about it because yeah better safe than sorry but my suspicion was spot on (he disappeared with a known pothead then came back and immediately disappeared), and I was doing the work of three people for about four hours all while trying not to like pass out. Basically cleaned and closed the whole place myself, meanwhile high-guy has fallen asleep in the lobby, and I have to eventually resort to bashing metal bars together to wake his ass up and send him home after like an hour and a half of intermittently trying to wake him up while closing.

          Frazzled?  Yuri stops with hands still in his hair, mid-stroke as he fusses lazily with trying to fix it.  Part of him still gets stressed, at the thought of looking so undone—  a part which quietly drifts out of mind, when he looks to Ferdinand, abandoning the attempts to smooth his own appearance, for the time being.

          ❝ You think so? ❞    He asks, laying back down on his side, pulling the sheets up nearly to his chin.  Beneath those sheets, he’s woven one of his legs between Ferdinand’s, and tugged himself in close to his companion’s side.  There, Yuri rests his head upon the shoulder beside him with a contented sigh, tracing softly the lines Ferdinand’s collar bone make with a finger.    ❝ Cute...  Try not to be so smug.  This is entirely your doing. ❞    The accusation, made with a smile, comes just as a great stretch of his back leaves legs quivering briefly.    ❝ Still, you don’t look half-bad yourself.  Your braid is coming all undone. ❞
