In less than an hour, Allen would wake up. He slept irregularly, though ever since Kanda and Link had made it a habit to stay near him, he’d lost the edge of some of his nightmares. Still, he always woke shortly after Link or Kanda left, especially now that it was winter. He refused to run the heat, claiming why would he if he had two perfectly good heaters in bed.

Months have passed, and life at court had assembled into something approaching normalcy. Link and Allen still spent every day together, but more often than not, Allen’s fiancé was inclined to join.

Link pledged his loyalty and bent his knee, fealty bone deep for Crown Prince Allen. By extension, Prince Consort Kanda was parceled some of said devotion — but not very much, if Link could help it.

Unfortunately, when the worst comes to pass and life at court is threatened, Link must act beyond what his heart and duty demands and instead on what he knows is right.

Even if it means leaving Allen behind.

Allen watched them go and when they turned the corner finally faced Link, eyes glittering. “Well, I certainly missed seeing you first thing this morning.”

Perhaps it was because Link had missed Allen, despite seeing him sun up to sun down, or maybe it was he knew the coming afternoon would feature him following at a discreet distance, watching the long fall of dark hair brush Allen’s shoulder, his arm, see Allen’s smile when the prince consort said something particularly witty. Whatever the cause, Link’s words came out painfully raw. “My mornings never seem right when I don’t see you.”

Allen pulled up short, and to Link’s simultaneous pleasure, pride, and concern over being spotted, blushed a truly marvelous shade of red.

Allen covered his mouth with a darkly tanned glove, eyes startling bright against his flushed cheeks. Then he laughed, cheekily and shyly and adorably all at once. “Perhaps I should skip out more often, then, if I get this kind of treatment afterwards.”

But it’s literally not the end of the world, here. So let’s lay down some rules.”

baha, oh god, that does suit them, somehow. thrill of the chase, and whatnot. poor link– dating known criminals must be some kind of light treason, right? nevertheless, that kind of chase suits these two. i love it. the back-and-forth! the tension! the stares!

i love cop!link. everyone loves cop!link. they must, because we’re always writing cop!link. investigator link– or even maybe fbi analyst or fbi field agent link– being assigned to kanda’s case. keeping kanda’s picture posted to his desk. kanda’s gives off this glaring, almost thuggish ne’er-do-well kind of vibe, which is kind of alarming on such a pretty face.

trying to get into the head of the criminal you’re catching, you know, that sounds like it could be a very intoxicating thing.

either way, in studying his behaviour to try and catch him link might kind of come to admire kanda’s guts, and kanda might grudging return that admiration to said resourceful cop who nearly keeps getting him fucking arrested.

the two of them already have this kind of extremely tense chemistry. even moreso than kanda and allen, in a sense, because the two of them are so outwardly antagonistic and belligerent. meanwhile kanda and link are… quieter, in a sense; link would not rise to the bait of argument very easily. so there’s something very taut and uneasy about it. their individual focus could make some really interesting interactions, ugh! hoshino! please make it so!

… why am i picturing a 1920s prohibition-era bank robbers au. apparently, i can’t not write period aus.

i wonder where allen is in all this? an… accomplice of kanda’s?

I think that kanda would be like 'listen here you little shit' because he wouldnt want allen to be stuck in the middle so link is going to try too. He might not try at the start but link has already hurt allen and he would want to make it up to him

But, the whole betrayal thing! The worst thing, is really, (as, I remember. I was talking to zoe about this) is that Allen would forgive Link. There are only two characters Allen holds any grudge against right now, and that’s the Earl for what he did and at Apocryphos because he hurt Cross. There isn’t any lingering resentment against Road, Tyki, Kanda, Lavi, Cross, etc. for what they did to him. And that says a lot about Allen’s character.

Allen will forgive Link (is what I think, based on his track record, I mean, shit, Road put out his eye and it’s like?? whatever). So, what I’m getting at is that Allen will forgive Link, and it’s going to kill him

Link betrayed Allen at heart and that Allen will not condemn Link will leave very long lasting scars. Link will try so hard to make up for it.

So Link would do just about anything for Allen (like he does now for Leverrier but that’s a whole other convo) and so getting along with Kanda? Definitely.

So it would be very very rough, and hard at first, but eventually, effort and dedication does bear fruit. It’d become easier to appreciate each other. Kanda could respect Link’s diligence once he changed and Link could admire Kanda for his strength.

*comes out of the cupboard* im here for that Kanda/Allen/Link. Just imagine them all trying to cuddle on Kanda or Allen's small bed. Allen has to be in the middle and one of them is spooning him and the other one is hugging him and they fight for spots. Allen encouraging Kanda to try more sweets, (Kanda can only really stand Link's not its not because theyre dating it's cause theyre the best, or thats what he says) Just Allen loves doing their hair, hes allowed to do whatever he wants in private

Kanda is, for once, grateful Allen eats so much, because now he doesnt have to suffer a lecture on eating Link’s desserts (i cant write this with a straight face, i can’t - “eating link’s desserts” - jesus)

There’s probably hair ties all over the place and Link is always collecting them and putting them back on the vanity or whatever it’s called. And, slowly, over time, it begins to frustrate him because no matter how much he picks them up they always go missing. Why do they always go missing. Where do they go? Kanda insists he only uses one (he lies) and Allen doesnt keep track of things like that. Mundane details that will drive Link to his grave

Maybe after allen asks them to try to get along kanda figures out that link isn't so annoying. Their feeling for eachother wouldnt be as strong as what they feel for allen but it's something. Affection and attraction really do wonders with time.

I like to write Kanda in a very very subtle way in that he will literally do anything his loved one asks of him, be it allen, alma, etc, whatever, but they will not know. He’d die of embarrassment. But then I also wonder if he just wouldn’t care or be ashamed?

Long story short, he would try for Allen, but there’s no guarantees. It’d be more of a “I’ll tolerate his general existence around you” before it evolves into anything near attraction, since I very much believe physical looks have no real hold on Kanda’s heart (his dick on the other hand)

I think what would endear someone to Kanda, maybe, is Link’s affection and care for Allen, because he’s not that bad if he’s doing something good for Allen.

It would take a long time lol but something could, with the right encouragement

Yus. Im so happy you're into k/a/l. Me and nadejdaro were talking about it(more like me trying to drag her into my rareship hell) and we basically had the same idea (pie shipping+ yullen and kanda/link attraction)

My fave hc was kanda teasing his short boyfriends ( after link and kanda started dating too (they probably bonded over taking care of their bean and i like the idea of link trying to bake something sweet that kanda would enjoy))

Why I always forget that Link is shorter than Allen is beyond me, but this is beautiful.

I ship most anyone with Allen, I’m not very picky lol hence the yullen, laven, linkllen, k/a/l, poker pair, etc. Hell, Tokusa even lmao. I do have certain lines tho//

Link baking something sweet Kanda would enjoy? Probably just the remaining taste on Allen’s tongue after he ate Link’s dessert! (dessert? what dessert?)

All I can think of is Kanda getting annoyed of constantly coming home to sweet smelling pastries and hiding the flour on top of the cupboard where they can’t see it. But he would have a deep, deep appreciation for the freshly baked bread Link sometimes makes. Rum cake? Kanda would like. Link would make it a challenge to make Kanda like any kind of baked good, and Kanda would fight him every step of the way (no one mentions how many kisses Allen gets after eating desserts tho)

Link and Kanda both worrying and stressing over Allen is my favorite thing. Both of them pining after him is my favorite. Just. both of them being idiots

Yulinkllen Prison AU

- Link is a prison guard, Kanda committed murder, and Allen went to prison for the murder

- The victim was Neah, who murdered Mana years ago and was stalking and threatening Allen

- Allen claimed responsibility for the murder because Kanda’s criminal history put him at risk for the death penalty

- Allen was sentenced to life in prison

- Link is, at first, extremely wary of Allen, being fully aware of his crimes, and is even more alarmed that Allen is so nice

- But then he starts to notice that things aren’t adding up

- Because Allen always says hello and speaks to every side of every argument and is the ultimate mediator, but he’s also the first to end each and every budding fight with as few people hurt as possible

- And he always looks so happy just when Link stops to talk, and he has many stories about his friends and none of them seem especially suspicious

- Kanda, meanwhile, is trying to scrape together enough proof that he did it and not Allen, wtf, Allen

- And he tends to snap and snipe at Link whenever he gets the chance, because he’s very suspicious of how Allen is being treated

- And he ferries messages from Lenalee and Lavi and Cross and visits more regularly than any of them

- While Allen is just ‘this is my life now’ and is actively trying to make friends with the guard who is reliably around his area, even if it’s not working very well

- Until Link overhears something that finally tips him off and he then confronts Kanda about it (because Allen will lie and lie and Link knows this)

- And Kanda threatens him angrily but also more or less tells the truth

- And explains exactly why he did it and Link finds himself hating Neah almost as much as Kanda does and is horrified at himself for it

- He is now as conflicted as he’s ever been and he does not appreciate it

- Because Allen Should Not be in prison but Kanda doesn’t deserve death for what he did

- But there’s not enough proof for any of this

- Why does Link believe them
