The summer sun threw dappled green shadows over the sweetgrass and buttercups. Jaskier breathed deeply as he strode across the lawn, trousers rolled up to his knees and shirt unbuttoned to his waist, whistling merrily as he evaded his responsibilities yet again.
It was just so dreadfully dull being a Viscount. Jaskier sighed, his pace slowing as he drew out of sight of the manor house - his stern mother and sneering brothers, his ever-nagging steward. The only time Jaskier could find any peace these days was wandering the expansive acreage of his estate in plainclothes - just another freckled farmboy out on a jaunt.
Jaskier’s destination today lay at the edge of his property - mouldering docks which had been built in his grandfather’s tenure, set upon an inlet cove and now largely abandoned. Wincing as he minced his tender bare feet across the rocky beach, Jaskier made his way carefully to the very end of the pier, which jutted over the turquoise water.
With a deep, satisfied sigh, Jaskier lowered himself to sit, dangling his feet into the icy water. For a few moments, Jaskier simply closed his eyes and enjoyed the sun, until a quiet splash caught his attention.
“Hello Geralt,” Jaskier smiled, slitting one eye open to see a white-silver shadow circling in the murky depths.
