I think sci-fi and co greatly underestimate the miracle that is lignin (and by extension cellulose), and coal by extension. Like ok plants just ended up using a compound that make them rigid and helps grow higher, AND it was impervious to any form of decomposition for 60 MILLIONS YEARS ?! They just hit jackpot

What would a world look like if fungi/bacteria had evolved to decompose lignin only 1000 years in ? Would every plant be flat and soft like algae or ferns ? How would the carbon cycle be impacted ? How would have "intelligent life" built its first houses, if not for rigid, abundant material (Clay maybe but i digress) ? How would they make fire ?

Actually i don't know if lignin is that unlikely to happen, all of this came to me in a dream 😄 Also while 60M years of free evolution real estate was certainly beneficial to lignin powerusers, maybe it's just viable anyway without all this time to perfect it

I was doing maintenance work on a friend's HDD since they requested it, and somehow the windows tool I used last time was unresponsive and giving me Access denied. And after 45mn of frantic searching do you know what caused it ? Fucking. RIOT VANGUARD

There's a similar tool directly in Firefox btw ! For all search engines (websites and custom) you have registered, you can define arbitrary keywords that are basically Search Shortcuts.

E.g. I configured @yt starts a Youtube search, and # brings me to a tag search on Tumblr.

They both work the same, just at different levels ! So use the one you prefer :)

Of course ! I don't know how familiar you are with programming so I'll detail a few things and then point to resources and tools. For reference the idea was inspired by this post !

TL;DR : use the code from my webpage for an interactive plot. If you can't code just tell me I'll add features to it. For gifs, this tool may work out of the box. Else you can code yours in python with matplotlib

Surely you know that colours can be noted as RGB, three values ranging from 0 to 255. You can use these values to represent a point in a 3D space. It works like a regular 2D graph ! Below is an example with just Red and Blue : some colours have a lot of blue, some more red, and pink has lots of both. The origin would be black (no colour at all). It's easy to draw by hand in 2D. You need tools for 3D renders, but the principle is exactly the same.

So the process is simple : for each pixel of your image, take the RGB value of it, and draw a dot at these coordinates on your plot.

But we can go further : digital images very often feature the same colour on multiple pixels. So we need to count how many times a specific colour is present. We just put that in a big table, a bit like so :

RED : 5 times

DARK RED : 1 time

BLUE : 3 times

except we use rgb (e.g. (0,125,200)) instead of colour names. Then we do the same as before, just draw bigger dots when the colour appear often.

To sum up: from your image, your create a list of colours, and optionally count their occurrences. Then you can plot it with a variety of tools.

If you want an interactive cube like the one I made, then good news you can just reuse my code :) If you think you can manage to create the colour list by yourself, then just replace the values. If you're not confident in your coding abilities, just tell me and I'll make a version where you can just input an image :)

If you want to create a gif out of it

This is a bit more tricky, because the program needs to take screenshots at fixed intervals and then join them into a gif. I used this webpage (source) to generate mine, although I made some slight changes to fit my needs. I don't have this code anymore, and I don't really feel like Pythoning these days sorry ! If you know a little bit of code, then the webpage above and this tutorial should be plenty enough !

I went a bit into details specifically because it's a fun programming project so try it out if you can :)

For those of you with android devices, you can use the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) standalone app control program to get rid of all the bloatware, data mining, and AI crap - no coding needed!

And here is a handy dandy app (Universal Android Debloater) that lets you do that with an interface, if you're afraid of making mistakes! Works on Windows, MacOS and Linux

PSA: Do not uninstall packages if you are not sure what they do. The app has a list of recommendations that are safe to uninstall, and you can also look up the package name on internet. Backup your data and don't brick your phone :)

I like fiddling out with xkit source code, and recently I've been thinking about groups for quick tags. Got a few spared hours today so I made a prototype :)

I'm also thinking about blog integration to display profile pictures instead of icons ! There's a lot to do still but this rough demo got me motivated :D

I spent two afternoons measuring and observing my old yukata, and taking notes to make a new one. Never done that before so it's a bit messy, but it looks so good !!

There's obvious mistakes in the drawings, but I learned so much during the process ! Next step I plan to cut out small papers to try and find the most optimal way to cut fabric :)

Can't wait to get to sewing !

Migration

Firstly, the simple migration tools. There are multiple services that allow you to do that, depending on the target platform. Here's the ones for Apple Music and Youtube Music. Deezer have their built-in tools.

I don't know many streaming services, but I would recommend using Youtube Music : with the help of Newpipe or alternatives, you can listen to your playlist with no ads for free :) And you can mix in youtube videos in your playlists - very cool when a specific version of a track isn't on streaming services ! Plus Newpipe has a very handy download tool

Secondly, I wanna talk about downloading. Having your own library with the files accessible anytime are a must, to my sense. It will greatly improve your battery life and reduce your mobile data usage. And you can keep them your whole life !! Make mixtapes on CDs for your friends !!! And- ok let's get to the point

From other services

The go-to tool for downloading music and videos is yt-dlp. It's the base of most DL tool out there ! The vanilla version is a command-line tool, but there's a few apps with an interface. If you're on PC, I like to use Parabolic for that. I *think* LibreTube has batch download ? NewPipe only has single download. Seal does it but is a bit clunky.

From Spotify

Spotify is infamous for being very good at protecting its files against download. They make breaking changes regularly, making it hard to find reliable, durable tools. Usually, the solution is to hack into the official Spotify app, and get the data from there. On PC, you can use OnTheSpot to hook into the official app. You can also mod the official app with Soggfy (windows only). I wasn't able to find any working Android app as of April 2025. Seal used to do it but not anymore, and popular options are discontinued or getting sketchy.

There are also tools that allow you to download music from CSV files

Backups

Finally: Backup !!! Your !!! Playlists !!! While pretty unlikely, it is possible that you may lose access to your account for one reason or another. Playlist.cloud (the very first link) allow you to do that. If anything goes wrong, you'll be able to restore all your playlists from these CSV files !

If you want to go even deeper : Soulseek is the gold standard for peer-to-peer music sharing (use an interface). With community scripts, you can even input your CSV list and have it downloaded.

ℹ️ Why should I trust any of these apps ? Github links are scary

A very wise consideration ! Some of these apps I used myself, so I can vouch for them. The rest is taken from FMHY (Free Media Heck Yeah), **the most comprehensive resource for piracy and free media access**. Here are the quick links to Migration and Download. I cannot overstate how good this resource is. Read it, bookmark it, this will be your best ally for the years to come !!! All recommendations on this website are curated by experimented communities. They are mostly safe and up to date.
