got back on my bullshit train (hopefully he doesnt blow this one up) because I recently reread quite literally my favorite short story and realized for the first time that the opening quote is by te lawrence.
"There seemed a certainty in degredation." T. E. Lawrence: Seven Pillars of Wisdom, CIII
The short story, for reference, is 'Three Versions of Judas', by Borges, which ALSO gives me lots of thoughts.
H of H Playbook, Anne Carson // Peter O’Toole going through pictures of T. E. Lawrence on the set of David Lean’s ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ (1962), from The Making of Lawrence of Arabia
If I fear him, who love him, how must he fear himself who hates himself?
The Kiss but it’s Lawrence & Ali 🥹 🤲🌟 [tap for HQ]

Anyone got that poem written from the perspective of an English teacher where they know deeply personal things about their now adult students because of the essays they wrote
FOUND IT it was in one of my boards

Small Town English Teacher
In your town, former students sling your drinks, snap your x-rays, and report your news on TV. You hold their secrets because you remember their essays.
One returns from combat, homecoming party at the airport, and you know he only joined up because his mom was ashamed of him. You remember the essay.
One dies from an opioid OD and you know about the man who groped her at work and how she told his wife. You remember the essay.
One smiles and wins an award and you know her drunk dad pushed her mom into a wall. You remember the essay.
One closes her eyes halfway in the mugshot and you know she worked in assisted living and once brushed a dying woman's hair. You remember the essay.

“Jobless behavior” when referring to people who are absolutely deranged on the internet is so far removed from reality like I guarantee you most people who are obsessively unhinged have a job that is driving them to become absolutely insane because they are miserable and likely don’t have the energy to do much outside of whatever outlet they’re using to take their frustrations out on the internet. Employed behavior
